In order to assist with control of values for precursor weapons and to reward longstanding players it would be cool if the drop rate could be marginally increased with higher achievement totals. This would have to suffer from diminishing returns in order to stop abuse and over generation of the precursors (no one wants it to be too easy).
By tying the mystic forge drop calculations into an achievement score then you have a subtle and reliable measure to reward those who have actually invested a lot of time and effort into their characters progression.
Seems like an elegant and fitting bonus for those seeking to craft a legendary weapon to match their exploits.
