Even after making as many 25 sets as I could I ended up with 2-5 of each type of key, it’d be nice if you could at least vendor them for a few copper a piece.
This is actually why I have enough to make a few entire cyphers left over. Knowing that marionette was still available while waiting for the patch, I was doing runs up till the last. I held on to some of my fragments so I could combine what I earned with what I had to have the least amount of excess. I assumed the lair staying behind was specifically to facilitate that. It seemed so logical!
It’s bizarre that so many of you held on to them until the day after the new patch.
It would have been bizarre — or downright stupid — to hang on to our cyphers had we not known the status of the lair post-patch. But when an ArenaNet representative responds to a post asking about the lair (with the explicit concern about the cyphers) saying that the lair would stay, it makes sense that people would believe them.
Here I thought ANet was gonna be logical:
End the events that drop the fragments/cyphers -> Allow people a little more time to use up their leftovers.
Alas, ANet is not being logical here.
Thankfully I used up MOST of my cyphers ahead of time, but I did follow Rubi’s suggestion today and ran a few more Marionettes while waiting for the patch… I didn’t rush to use up the fragments I got because of this…“misunderstanding.”
I googled this problem and found this thread. I guess this is as good a place to report my problem as any other.
I’ve played PvE/WvW on every class since beta, but am not big into sPvP. During that time, I’ve only ever played hotjoins (game browser) on my mesmer. I never had this problem in any of those places.
Since solo queue/team arena is now on the daily, I’ve started playing solo queue games on my necro (minion master build). I’m suddenly getting hit with this problem a lot. There’s no debuff in the effects monitor, and it doesn’t seem to matter the map or what class I’m fighting against at the time: I’ve had it happen in Khylo against a mesmer, Skyhammer against a necro, Khylo against another necro….and I believe one other time.
I’m completely unable to move. As OP mentioned, I can use skills just fine, but I can’t move. Autorunning doesn’t fix it, no skill use clears it, dodging (neither double-tap or dedicated key), nothing. The things that I have noticed clear it are: Dying. Getting knocked back by an enemy skill. And today I discovered: /dance.

I came to the bugs subforum specifically looking to see if this had been reported yet. It’s rampant since the last patch. I had it happen in WvW the other night, where I was trying to pick up an explosive in the Hylek merc camp while a toxic event was occurring. Wasn’t able to pick up anything else or use any skills. I had to log out and back in to fix it.
Today, was doing keg brawl, went to pick up a keg and accidentally moved before finishing picking up the keg (thus interrupting myself), and couldn’t use any skills or pick up any other kegs. Running into someone’s icy patch cleared me.
This would be helpful. I’d like it if the mystic forge would take exotics, as well. Maybe when the full ascended system comes in, they’ll let us do something with a lot of these pieces we have/will have no use for.
Could you share with the rest of us? They seem to have moved from the locations I was used to seeing them, and I am having a hard time finding them again.
I’ve been watching the whole .com vs .net thing play out over the past few days. The amount of hate simply because the .net site takes data from the .com site made me think there’s a lot of fanboys towards the .com one.
I have also been watching it play out. I am far from a .com “fanboy” — I have used the .com site and find it very useful, but only until we have an in-game LFG system.
And it’s easy to look at this at first blush and think it’s a good thing.
That said, bandwidth theft is a serious issue on the web. If you’ve ever run a site, you know how distressing it is to have a competing site steal not only your content (which I realize the .com site cannot legally claim the content, since it’s user-generated), but also the bandwidth you pay for. It’s unethical.
But the thing that really sets off alarm bells for me is how aggressively the .net site owner is promoting his site. I can very easily see someone taking a look at the success of the .com site and realizing what a potential cash cow it is, and wanting in on that action. He may not be making money off of ads right now — but once he has stolen the eyeballs, I would not be surprised if that sucker is monetized up the wazoo.
This does not look like a project that is designed to help the community. It looks like something designed to benefit an individual/group of involved individuals at the cost of someone else’s time and money, and I refuse to be a pawn in it.
Okay, I’m gonna dredge this post up because I had this very thought today while looking at someone in a CoF set, so I went a-Googlin’.
I’ve normally previewed CoF gear on my characters, saw the standard flames and said “No thank you.” But a blue or white flame would fit my guardian perfectly. Pink or purple flames would suit a mesmer nicely. And, ooh, a sickly green flame for necros…or a shadowy black, which would look so awesome on so many professions!
I believe I suffered this last night. I was playing a level 8 human engineer, doing the personal story with a friend of mine — street rat where we save Quinn out in Claypool. While fighting Crusher Dan, my friend went down, and I attempted to revive him. Being level 8 and Crusher Dan being 11, I started taking considerable damage — though not sure if an immobilize was a part of it — I tried to move but was completely stuck. Couldn’t use skills, move, or dodge. Of course I went down, but was unable to rally.
This is probably a pretty rare bug, but I would love to see it fixed. Dying sucks, especially when it’s not your fault.
Considering the flakiness of the system, I really wish they had not awarded laurels prior to 4 PM server time. I understand wanting to push that major patch before the daily reset, but surely they could have put a smaller patch in right after reset so we could all be on equal footing. I know it’s just one laurel, but it seems a little unfair that some were able to get it while others were prevented either because they had already completed their daily or because they ran into bugs with the new system.
Real Life kept me extremely busy through the event, so I really only had the chance to see what there was to do and try to grind through it on the 30th and 31st. I was also able to do everything else and get a few complete memoires for my main characters.
The Clock Tower got me, though.
Now, I suck at jump puzzles. I don’t have great coordination and reflexes, so action games have never been my thing. And when GW2 was hyping its features pre-release and they said “jump puzzles,” I groaned. I thought, “Well, there’s something I won’t even be trying.” But I’m stubborn and an “always try your best” type, so despite the spastic camera and my tendency to motion sickness, I’ve powered through a number of jump puzzles in the game — many without looking up clues online, because part of the fun of this game is discovering things for myself. I have never expected them to make any jump puzzles easier just because they’re too challenging for some people.
I spent about 5 hours on the night of the 30th trying the Clock Tower, on an asura elementalist with speed boost. My instance was blessedly empty (yes, people get in the way, and it made me sad to watch people bicker — however, it was nice having people to talk to in the countdown lobby, as most were very encouraging). Never got further than the first set of stairs after the gears.
Tried some more on the 31st, a couple hours. First with the asura again, and then with a human without speed. It seemed a little easier with the human, and that made me wish I had more time to try it with her.
Ultimately I had to give up and go to bed. I had a friend offering to do it for me, but I was like, “How will I feel any sense of accomplishment if I don’t do it myself?”
I really hope they bring the puzzle back next year — same difficulty.
The only improvement I could suggest would be to maybe make it a personal instance — not really out of necessity, but because it seems that’s how Josh intended it.
And hopefully the camera will have its kinks sorted out by then, so it can maintain its aspect setting, so you’re not battling perspective changes with it being zoomed out at one turn and zoomed in at the next.
Those two changes would probably help a lot of people, including myself, who look forward to conquering the challenge eventually.
EDIT: Ohhh, yeah! Totally agree with RuneTalos: That wait timer sucked. That was one of the biggest reasons I loved having an empty instance — no wait!

I had something odd happen today.
About a month ago, I offered a staff on the TP, and was quickly undercut as the price plummeted. I had already paid the listing fee, so I just left the staff for sale. So, of course, every time I’d open up My Transactions, I’d see it listed in “Items I’m Selling”. Today I logged in to collect some cash from some stuff I’d left to sell overnight, and my staff was no longer listed in “Items I’m Selling.” I was elated! My staff sold! There was a decent amount of money waiting for me for my sales…. So I went to “Items I’ve Sold,” and while all the things I had listed last night were there, my staff was not listed.
The weird thing is that, I don’t think the amount of money I had waiting for me properly added up to what it should have. I can’t prove this, however, since I didn’t keep careful track of the sales I had up before going to bed, so I’m not sure the total I was anticipating making overnight. But by estimating as best as I can, my profit from my sales last night plus my staff are about 3 silver off what I actually made. (Yes, I factored in the 10% sales tax).
I’m not fussed enough by the totals (and since the math is fuzzy, there’s a lot of room for human error), but the fact the item isn’t listed in the “Items I’ve Sold” tab is the most annoying part of it.
Weird.
I’ve got two cooks at about 350, done almost purely through discovery (caveat being that I consider making the necessary ingredients that get revealed in the Production tab as part of the discovery process). I didn’t make uselessly massive amounts of things like frosting or whatever just to bump my skill. However, when a few magic find dishes came up to give me skill, I made several of those for my own use.
However, now that I am 350, in evaluating my few missing raw ingredients, I’m starting to wonder if pure discovery gain is as viable between 350-400 as it was in lower levels.
Anyway…. The main thing that helped me is, when an ingredient would be revealed in production, I’d check it in the discovery pane to see how many possible dishes it would be used in, so I could make that many of the ingredient while it was “hot” for skill gain.
My main warning is that this method is slow, requires making an appearance in practically every map to get ingredients, and uses a ton of inventory space. That said, I found it very fun and satisfying. And it prompted me to actually want to get out there and complete the maps (I didn’t look up the locations of karma ingredients on the wiki).
As I play, I notice a number of typos in the NPC dialogue. Have the developers expressed how they would most like these reported to them? Do we have a “typo thread” going here, or should I use the in-game /bug system?
Just looking forward to being able to help polish the game without being annoying about it.
I’m certainly too poor to pay for some of the more substantial building upgrades, so I usually skip it. This might make me more inclined to contribute.
But I wonder how this would affect worlds with imbalanced populations. Would this not give my more populous enemy an advantage over my smaller team?
Events ARE dynamic. Once defeated, they will have a cooldown time, but after that time passes, previous events must happen before they spawn.
The thing is, there’s always people around those places, and events are completed quite fast, so the dragons appear at seemingly fixed times, but they do not spawn at fixed times.
The pre-events spawn exactly 3 hours after the last dragon was killed. I was in the Shatterer map one time with a guy who had the times down to the exact minute.
Yeah, there’s going to be a slight variance because of the time it takes to complete the prerequisites. So you’re not going to have a dragon up exactly at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. But the fact that people can time it from the last event is not my idea of “dynamic.”
For the record, my main is a necro. I think that’s kind of spoiled me for skill options. I have weapon swapping, which allows me 10 weapon skills, plus my 4 Death Shroud skills. And if I choose Lich Form as my elite, there’s another 5 skills to choose from.
In comparison to that, playing elementalist is a bit boring since the different attunements for each weapon type operate roughly the same. And unless I’m missing something, it’s not as easy as just hitting “I” and double-clicking, since I believe that action will default to main-hand for most ambidextrous weapons. If you want to put a dagger as offhand, you have to do it from your paperdoll, which takes up far more of the screen, and requires clicking and dragging rather than just a simple double-click.
Because of that, I usually just stick with the one weapon.
Or…the event could be truly dynamic and not follow a strict 3 hour timer. I’d like that better. (But I’m probably alone there…)
I’ve met a lot of cool people who have invited me to their small, awesome guild, but I’m already in a small, awesome guild. I don’t want to leave mine, and they don’t want to leave theirs. Would be neat to join our small, awesome guilds together in an alliance.
have you tried contacting ANet in-game and seeing if they could do anything? I’m really not sure how stuff like that works. On the other hand, there will be plenty more Coins and Salvage Kits to come so don’t feel too down about it.
Thank you for your condolences, Bran. I didn’t contact ANet. They’re busy, and it’s my own fault. If it was bug-caused, I would. But I clicked the button. They cannot be held accountable for my mistakes. And yes, it is just a kit. There will be more.
I would just love it if it was a little harder to make that mistake. The buttons are so close together, and out in the field, so much can be going on at once, it can be hard to stop and read and make sure you’re doing the right thing.
I think the buy-back feature is great. I don’t want people to think I’m pooh-poohing that. But things are much less hectic in the peaceful environment in town. I’m personally not likely to accidentally merch something. But, man, that full pack sneaks up on me and, depending on the spawn around me, things can get crazy.
If no new content is released until all the bugs are fixed, we’ll get new content…never. Bugs are a part of ever-evolving software, MMOs especially.
Besides, aren’t events mostly developed on the back of existing mechanics, so the bug-fix team is mostly independent of the event content team?
This thread certainly highlights the differences between introverts and extraverts. The two rarely are able to fully understand the way the other thinks.
I think having incognito alt characters could potentially be abused, but creating such a system would be unnecessary if we could just appear completely offline when we want to. I don’t see how that could be abused for nefarious purposes.
In GW1, the only way you could track the location of your contacts was if you were mutually on each other’s lists. It’s silly that that didn’t carry over to GW2.
(For that matter, a friend of mine recently told me that I was showing up as online in his GW2 Contact List while I was in GW1…. There’s no escape!)
There are a lot of good points being made here.
I’m personally not afraid of PvP, though like some, GW1 PvP (RA, specifically) kind of soured me to the idea. But WvW isn’t true PvP, it’s more like PvPvE, much like Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry. Hence, there’s a lot less pressure and people don’t really have the opportunity to harass you because the map is so big.
My own stumbling block is my terrible video card that slows down any time I have more than 3 invaders on my screen. Forget zergs. So I have to be much more cunning in order to get my monthly achievement. It is tricky, but by using the siege weapons, it’s a bit easier.
As has been said, the monthly achievement is there to prompt you to experience all different aspects of the game. And since WvW isn’t true hard-core PvP, I don’t think its inclusion in the Monthly Achievements is asking too much of you. HOWEVER, it might be nice if the requirement was broadened a little, so that those who prefer a support role in WvW could check off their achievement as easily as the bloodthirsty berserkers do. If we got credit for repairing/upgrading structures or taking down NPC-controlled camps, that would allow those of us who are more comfortable with the PvE side of WvW to check things off.
(Though I’m aware that could make the track tons easier to complete… I don’t want to remove the challenge, just broaden our options.)
If you want it to be easier to swap weapons out of combat, why not give rangers eleven slots, and only two that work in combat, so that they can switch to their Sword/Axe, or Axe/Warhorn, or Greatsword, or Longbow, or Shortbow, or Axe/Dagger, or Sword/Torch out of combat a bit easier?
I’d actually be okay with elementalists and engineers getting an out-of-combat weapon swap, and all other classes getting a third out-of-combat swap slot.
For PvE anyway.
But I’m a bit lazy and like the variety using different weapons. YMMV.
We have a buy-back feature, which I have never had to use. But I have twice now had my pack full and gotten the message asking me to Take All or Delete All and accidentally clicked delete. Today, I was accepting my Daily Achievement reward — a Mystic Coin and a Black Lion Salvage Kit — just as an event spawned on top of me. I panicked when I got the message and deleted my salvage kit. I feel sick over it. I tried to see if the item had dropped to my feet as loot, but it had not….
If we have a buy-back feature, a delete-all undo or at least an “are you sure?” confirmation for the delete all would be nice as well. Or move the buttons further away from each other to reduce error.
I’m sure people will argue, “Learn to read. Don’t be lazy. QQ moar” etc. But the same could be said to people who accidentally merch stuff, and they have a safety net.

OP, did you seriously bump your thread only an hour and 20 minutes after posting it?
Anyway, on topic, you haven’t really explained why you think mounts will do what you claim they will do — get more people to play, inspire them to do more content, etc. Will your proposed mounts just look cool or will they provide an inherent benefit (e.g. constant speed boost)?
You claim that setting the goal of obtaining a mount will inspire you to play more. So, once you get a mount, then what? Will you want them to keep adding new mounts for you to chase?
