I love the thief class but, my $.02 on it are as follows.
Great PVE fun as far as story, clearing areas, exploring, puzzles. (general stuff)
I (personally) feel useless in dungeons.
WvW I feel hit or miss. I feel like everything I do is ultimately ’average." I feel like other classes are better at AOE nuking and warriors or guardians are better at any sort of “sustained” combat so to speak.
In PVP I’m still really trying to form a fair opinion. Others seem to be able to 3 hit me before I can blink, while I seem to suck at doing it to other people. Experimenting with more tanky builds when i get a chance..
Well… I don’t (personally) believe ANY class should go pure damage. The amount of health/defense the enemies have mean you won’t be able to drop them quickly.(generally speaking) You have to be ready to do a couple different things all on demand.
For this reason, what me and a ranger have done, is we will (while fighting general hordes) basically layer traps. If they are hard to kill in a straight fight, then leave about 8 traps for them to run through.
Then bombard them with AOE damage as they run hobbled through traps.
Then when it comes time for boss fight, switch over to high damage single target abilities.
If we weren’t talking dungeons, then sure.. glass cannons are more viable in general PVE or WvW heck even PVP in some cases..
I generally (In dungeons) prefer a bow to anything else.. you have to be careful with aggro but, it has a lot of utility/effectiveness.
As far as shadowsteps in dungeons.. I could be wrong but, I feel like they have been “nerfed” some. I think at some point as long as you could get the pointer to be green, you could clear a small jump.. but, I think they removed that ability..
I will admit, I do use my bows shadowshot ability to avoid some traps though.
And being totally honest.. I sometimes feel a bit useless as a thief in dungeons.. I frequently feel like I don’t bring enough direct damage to really be useful, I don’t bring enough control/condition damage to really outshine other classes.
It may just be my perceived issues or what not.. I’ll let you know once I have another class or two to give a better comparison.
erm that boss is so easy
he lifts his sword behind him and the sword glows before he throws out that scorpian wire and all you have to do is dodge it , so easy
although i agree dungeons need tuning this post makes legitimate concerns over dungeons look like just a bunch of noobs that cant work out simple tactics
I’ve said from the beginning, “Am I missing something?” and have been open to suggestions and ideas.
So, if you feel the absolute need to imply insult, go somewhere else.
Thanks, I’m hoping maybe we can get some more support.
Or at the very least someone can give me a reasonable explanation as to why things are the way they are.
If you really don’t like exploring… (A fun part of the game IMHO)
Then just craft your way to 80.
I really don’t see the point of maxing level but, w/e.
Just clear hearts, then do crafting stuff..
Seriously, I’ve gotten the survivor title 2 months in a row just by crafting. (100k xp without leaving town)
Why do people who use two handed weapons get forced to pay double for their weapon sets?
Using cultural weapons as an example.. two daggers or a dagger and a pistol would be 63k karma each.
That’s 126k karma for a single weapon set compared to a single greatsword at 63k
Seems like there is a pretty steep inequality for weapon selection. This also seems to apply to dungeon weapons.
This seriously needs some tweaking. If using two 1h weapons is just deemed “more effective” than 2h weapons then I wouldn’t mind seeing some cost adjustment so that we pay 70k karma (35k per dagger) to equal out to a 63k karma greatsword.. This is an example but, we would still pay more and it could be “adjusted for stat inflation” if you will.
There is no weaponset in the game that justifies a +63k karma price over another weapon of the same level though.
I feel the same logic can be applied to dungeon tokens.. Why should people who want a weaponset from a dungeon have to make about twice as many dungeon runs?
Again, I don’t mind running more if it means the stats are slightly higher so that everything evens out.. but, right now.. the system is completely bias towards 2h weapons.

The message of the day is nice..
But, I think it would be cool to have a guild bulletin board for more general purposes that could be a little bit bigger or at least more flexible than the current motd.
I wouldn’t want it to replace the motd but, maybe have like 2 or 3 pages. one for “general info” relating to guild.. IE websites, vent info, and guild resources.
Then we could have a “current events” type page for things going on in the right now. Example: I just fought teqautl. I can put “Tequatl died at ________” and others can put information like “Shatterer down at _____________” and that way we could keep active track of what’s going on in the world and communicate as a guild.
It doesn’t have to allow 200 pages or anything but, maybe up to 5 pages.
If I go back, I’ll make sure to look for a yellow sword but, no one I was with noticed any sort of indicator.
Has it ever been known to glitch?
In general, I don’t mind the difficulty of dungeons. I like some degree of challenge and I’m willing to fight to earn a fitting prize..
The quirk I do happen to have with dungeons is when an enemy can shoot out 5 scorpion wires, then proceed to down anyone he grabs with a spin attack.
We vary rarely ever had 5 people go down at once.. but, the insanely high health meant the fight was going to last more than a few seconds.. We noticed no pattern to predict when the wires were coming, we noticed no way of indicating we need to dodge. And sure enough when he takes down 2, they are down for good.. no rezzing them.
I don’t mind that GW2 isn’t suppose to be a game where you can sit around and tank damage, I don’t mind that it IS suppose to be difficult..
Still, I find the rewards are completely and totally lacking for the sheer amount of effort put in.. especially when I get like 1 silver from the chest at level 80 and repairs cost 2 or 3 silver.
Maybe I’m crazy but, I think the ability to 100-0 2/3 party members with virtually no warning is a bit over powered.
If it were a case of a dragon raising his foot so everyone has like 2 seconds to dodge.. cool.. but, as far as I can tell this is instantaneous.
I’m pretty cool with having to experiment or try to find the best angle to attack a situation from.. EX: in CM there is frequently a bunch of turrets set up so you can’t charge in head first..
So am I missing something? I’m pretty open to ideas and suggestions but, in general this just seems a bit crazy.. especially when in this mode most bosses get to avoid being crippled/immobilized so there isn’t any way to safely keep distance.
Should probably also point out i’m a thief so I have almost no long ranged attacks..
Even if we would have completed this dungeon, the reward would have been incredibly lacking considering the time/energy put into it.. :/
Were not a Toe to Toe class, we shouldnt fight fair.

I never had any intention of doing so.
I’ll try your advice now actually. Thanks for the suggestions.
Glass Cannon works well enough in generic situations (non sPVP)but, when the enemy team has 5 people and knows to expect a thief life can quickly get complicated.
I’ll definitely try going for more survivability and see how that works.
Alright guys, I want to really get into sPVP and I absolutely love playing thief.
The “quirks” I have with it are ENTIRELY my quirks. I accept, admit, and am not going to pretend they aren’t because I am bad at playing thief in PVP. (or at least sPVP)
I find that I am really inconsistent and I want to fix this. I have had a thief come from out of no where and 3 hit me more or less. The chain was brutal and I found myself unable to retaliate. I didn’t even see anyone else around and then from no where I’m just getting roflstomped.
The problem is even putting every single point I have into Power/Precision I still find I’m unable to do that kind of damage to other classes. edit: Other players actually.
The even bigger problem, is that I have absolutely no durability and even with just 2 or 3 people fighting, if there is a lot of AoE going off, then it makes it incredibly hard to get behind someone to work the thief magic.
I’m open to any suggestions, tips, and constructive criticism. I think maybe my build could also use a bit of work. I feel like I don’t bring the proper damage, and I feel like I’m too glassy to really justify my current lack of damage.
