My recommendation for those who got rifles is to sell it on the trading post and use the money to buy something you can use. I doubt Anet has any means of telling whether a rifle came from a laurel box or any other source.
3 ectos later, I’m good, thanks. At least I had decent luck with the old salvage kit.
The genius behind the current system is that it doesn’t matter how many people of a given level bracket are playing. WvW is always going. Everyone’s level 80. Any time, those interested can join in the massacre, take the castle, storm the keep, or what have you.
The thing I wonder is, why is it that we can’t use our sPvP gear while in the mists? What is it that makes WvW and SPvP entirely separate? Thoughts? I get that WvW is directly linked to the PvE world and all, It just seems to me that SPvP has more of a fair balance, since everyone has relatively equal stats and gear.
Then again, when i take my level 2 mesmer into WvW for giggles and actually kill someone, I do feel a sense of accomplishment.
Ascended gear is nice, and all, but I’m a little miffed. My 400 jeweler gear is being phased into obsolescence. No need for exotic rings. Flame and Frost? We’ll take your exotic amulets and make them old news, now. Granted, exotics are still an important part of getting there, but eventually there will be an entire set of pink gear, and most crafted items will be pointless. Which reminds me of other games.
Crafting equipment should be special. It tends towards “neat” instead. Sure, there are things it’s good for, but the really good stuff comes from the mystic forge, or fractals, or a combination of the two.
Anyone else ever play Final Fantasy XI? It’s old news now, and they’ve changed a lot (so I’ve heard) But when I was playing years ago, you would see cap level players running around in player crafted gear. Not because it was decent until you got real gear, but because it was the best in slot item for your job. It gave crafting a sense of prestige. The crafting system in that game was sheer murder, and rarer materials were near impossible to obtain, but one thing they did right was make the system useful.
There’s a bit here and there on the forums about making crafting more useful. Crafter only skins, for example. Good Idea. An account or soul bound item with a recipe from, say, a karma vendor, that can’t be acquired any other way. The item could even be sheer crap, and function as a tool to sell transmutation stones. Which could also address issues many have with the armour selection, But I’m getting off my own topic if I continue down that road.
There should be some way for crafted equipment to have purpose greater than as a stepping stone. Perhaps player made ascended gear, replacing our beloved ecto with some other hard to obtain thing (infused ectoplasm, lol). Or unique skins. Or a town clothes chest piece that says “I leveled X to 400 and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”
Note: I’m talking VERY specifically about player made equipment and endgame content intertwining in some meaningful way, here, any bright ideas?
The trenchcoat is all fine and dandy, and I have nothing against that type of armor. But there’s just SO. DANG. MANY. overcoats in the medium gear selection. So I agree.
I fail to see how the GW monk couldn’t work in GW2. Our beloved GW2 uses the trinity of damage, control, and support.
Remember Protection Monks? Control &/or support
Smiting? Damage, hurrr
Healing not so much, Rather Divine Favor type of play for a damage/Support role.
These three play styles could well fit into GW2 just fine. So that’s not the issue, here. The issue is: WHY should they? Monk isn’t needed. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be cool, and fun, and nostalgic as all bloody heck, because it would be all of those things and more. I’m just saying that without the need for dedicated healers, having monks in the game at launch would have been a mistake. The point was to NOT have the class that makes everyone go “hey healer” or “need a monk for this run” or some other variation of “this is needed to succeed because that’s how it is.”
Truth is, Monks were healers first, bonders second, and smiters occasionally. And that’s just not the vibe in GW2. You say it doesn’t have to be that way, and you’re absolutely right, but veterans from GW1 and imported players from standard tank/healer/dps format games could see the monk as a throwback to that need a healer mentality that we’re trying to avoid, here.
Even a static pose would be a welcome addition. More emotes would also be welcomed by many. Win win
And for those of us who, say, got a rifle (like me) or some other piece of unusable loot?
I did the same thing.. Buy the 2 ranger boxes.. What do I get? First, a rare harpoon. Tsk, I already had a rare harpoon, rotten luck.. ok, next.. a … rifle? RIFLE!? Rangers can’t even USE Rifles!
/facepalm
Should’ve waited and got ascended… /sigh
