At what level can you say for sure you can get a good feel for the profession ? 20 ? 30 ?

New player, input on hybrid classes

Hey there, new player here. Trying to decide on a class. This game is unlike the class system of other MMOs, I’m a bit confused. I noticed there is no dedicated tank/dps/heal spec, seems every prof can do a bit of everything.

I started as a revenant but I’m not sure about that choice … I thought it would have been like the DK in WoW, but not quite, my main was an Enhancing Shaman.

In most games, I will normally choose the hybrid caster/melee. Red mage in Final Fantasy, Clerics in D&D. If those classes are not available, I will go direct caster (Black mage) but usually as an ALT character, not main. I understand I can level both, but I have limited play time at the moment and want to pick the right class.

I like to be versatile, to have a toolkit for every situation. Heal, support, long range, melee, tank, bring it on. I don’t care much for top chart comparison, I just want to be able to fit in good with everything I do and be invited to events and be useful.

At this point, I’m hesitating between guardian and elementalist.

As weird as this may sound, I don’t normally like paladin types of classes, but I do like Cleric types, probably because they have a bigger magic component than paladins.

Friend of mine is saying an elementalist can do everything and excel at pretty much it all, even do some tanking to some extent but otherwise VERY squishy.

I like to be self reliable and flexible.

I think I’m kinda answering my own question here, but would like your input on the matter.

Thanks !
