GW2 uses a distributed content network (CloudFront) for static resources, so different people are going to have different results. Personally, GW2 downloads at 3 MB/s for me, which is my limit. Assuming your network is fine, maybe your local server is far away or overloaded.

If you want to torrent it, be sure to only obtain Gw2.dat and not the exe. Once downloaded, place Gw2.dat in the same folder as your Gw2.exe. Make a shortcut to Gw2.exe and add the command line -repair, which will check the entire file for any problems. Once that’s complete, you can play it.

Don’t trust the % downloaded on the launcher. It’s no true indicator of how long it’ll take to download.

Are the following ports open: 80, 443, 6112, and 6600?

I have just opened those ports on the firewall, they may have been open before, nonetheless I opened them, I don’t want to risk one hours download worth just to see if my download speed increases. Thanks for the help though

So this is my first post on the forum, and I have never played the game before. I am downloading it on my Laptop and at the moment I am connected via Ethernet. I have fibre optic Internet which means I have Averagely 70mb Download and 20 Upload. I am downloading at around about 250KB sec is there something wrong with the server? I’ve been downloading for the better part of 45 minutes and I only have 6% downloaded. Help? I’ve seen the client on ThePirateBay and I average about 5mb/s on Bittorrent, should I Download from there?

The 6% you are seeing is the amount of files you’ve downloaded. It queues the largest files first and gets much faster as it goes on.

Slow speed on the download could be a firewall setting on your end.

I have allowed GW2 through the firewall… when it asked me, if there is another way to allow it can you walk me through? (Currently on Win 7)
