That’s the wrong way to phrase your concern. When you talk about nerfing zerker, that invites people to say they don’t want the game to be less action oriented or something, which misses the point. It’s not about zerker getting nerfed, it’s about mechanics that support other types of builds and play styles. I know that’s what you present in the OP, but people don’t read.
A lot of people here do get it at least and have made some really good points. Nerelith’s posts are really solid, well done sir. Especially this:
We were told there would be 3 game mechanics… Control, Support, and Damage. We have the tools for all three, but we only have a need for one.
That line is so good, I’m a little jealous. Seriously, this is pve in a nutshell.
But let’s look at wvw, there is no zerker meta there. I use a power based ele, condition spammer necro, support/dps guardian, and a support warrior. Other builds have value there and it’s not just “dodge or die.” Mechanics like that could help out pve, while not mitigating the use of zerker.
Basically, mobs use skills similar to what we use, it worked in gw1. That way mobs won’t use an attack and then stand there, awkwardly staring at you for 3 seconds before attacking again.
What if a few mobs and bosses had obvious-tell heal skills on a long cool down? Stunning at the right time becomes important making control more viable. Mobs could have defense skills, and use them smarter. For instance, Ascolonian warriors wouldn’t use shield stance immediately when you see them, making you sit there staring at them. Instead they might use it strategically, like when you’re actually attacking them. Make more directional attacks so kiting is more important.
Changing classes a bit is necessary too. Warriors can provide good team support while still specced for dps, just bring a banner and For Great Justice. I guess that’s an issue for another thread though.
There are problems with the megaservers, but this is not it. There are maps with champ trains on them, but it’s not every single map, at least not that I’ve seen. I highly doubt every map has a train, I’ve still seen plenty without that much population.
Tags can be helpful for gathering people to a group event, and is usually what happens. Cursed Shore tends to have tags running around letting people know which events, especially group events, are up. It’d be hard to do Grenth otherwise (it’s still hard and needs work done).
And if two commanders are arguing who should be tagged, let them. Ego fights are entertaining, and no matter who wins, they both lose. I usually see commanders getting along well enough, so I feel lucky when I get to watch them act like children.

Expansion, I don’t understand why anyone would say LS. This iteration of LS is bad for business. When my friends who quit the game ask what’s new that might bring them back, I don’t have much to say. There’s fractals, a small zone that’s deserted unless karka queen is happening, guild missions, a ruined LA which also happens to clash completely with the goal of your PS. Almost 2 years with so little permanent content isn’t a good long term plan.
You know what would bring them and so many others who’ve left the game back? An expansion. This business tactic works for every game. Not to mention they could add more to the cash shop, like fashion pieces and armor specific to the new continent.
Even offering permanent content in LS wouldn’t get as many people back to the game as an expansion would. LS is also unlikely to add new races, classes, skills, weapons, dungeons, a continent, armor sets, or PS. That’s what I and many people really want (important caveat: levels 1-50 PS only).
And remember how each GW1 expansion/campaign kept getting better and more imaginative than just the cliche medieval look. Game play and balance improved too (if you played a prophecy’s necro you know how poorly balanced it was).
So yes, I’d gladly pay 60 dollars for an expansion rather than keep getting free LS.

As a GoM soldier, I can say without a doubt this is not happening. We have consistently been taking first place, there’s no reason to team up with other servers. GoM plans to take first this tournament, by ourselves. We wouldn’t put up with subversive tactics, and we’re not worried about losing, DH isn’t a big enough threat.
GoM is fast moving, aggressive, and a little blood thirsty. Our own commanders have a tough time keeping us in check. We lack the self control to not attack a allied server. Like Sephiroth said, DR is big on defense, so we move to the path of least resistance. It’s strategy.
I do get that DR seems to be going for second place, but I doubt it’s intentional, it’s just strategy. They really hit SF hard at the end of last week, but that strategy got them second. They’re a solid server, I like fighting them.
Mostly, DR seems like a defensive server. That makes them a tough target. Last weekend me and my brother were capping bl camps and killing dolyaks, there were prolly other GoM roamers doing the same. Eventually we found DR camping their supply camps and escorting their dolyaks. We still killed the dolyaks but got killed in the process. Then we went to DH and found much less resistance, so we donkey punched your supply instead.
TL;DR: GoM isn’t worried about DH and would never team up with another server, and DR can be a pain to take on.
I got back into WvW this tournament after barely doing GW2 for two months, in that time I’ve gotten 2 ascended rings (knight and celestial) and 2 armor boxes (cleric and rampager). This was within roughly 30 ranks.
I also got a precursor drop, The Lover, off the tower champ at Anz. So yeah… wvw’s been pretty good to me. Helped me get my emperor title
Don’t be too upset, this is the only place where rng seems to work in my benefit, everything else has been painful. Needless to say, I’m going to be in wvw a lot more.
