Personal Story Restoration update

Tarnicus.2865

I’ve been holding off testing the restored PS, mostly so a guildie who was away for much of old LA (and had a crap computer when he was there) could see what LA used to look like with his current much better settings. He was free tonight so we did the DE gathering at the fountain and the Vigil meeting in Fort Marriner. Both had a good wide area to run around in beyond the active part of the PS so my guildie and I were able to go up on walls and in buildings such as the Commodore’s mansion.

Of note, the “past LA” is in sepia tones, but you can turn off post processing in Options and then you see it in color. It was glorious broad daylight while I was there. That’s a question: Does the old-terrain instance still follow the global day-night cycle? Or do we always get an appropriate time of day for the PS we’re doing?

I took a lot of screenshots, though just one in sepia, but it’s too late at night for me to process them for posting right now.

Thank you very much for the tip to turn off post-processing to see LA in colour

Introverts need not apply.

you are not introvert – more of that later. I am introvert. Prolonged social interaction exhausts me. Still I do fine in social environments and eg. am especially good at presentations. It just takes more effort than for extrovert persons.

If you cannot interact with lines in a chat window – and people are nothing more in a mmorpg unless you invest in them – you are not introvert. You suffer from a rather manifest case of social anxiety. This is an ailment. A game company should not design their game around single cases of psychological disorder. You on the other hand should seek out treatment as your condition is probably affecting your life way beyond a computer game. Again, social anxiety does not equal “introvert”. I am not mocking you here. Seek help, I recommend CBT.

An interaction doesnt need to have physical body to be social. People speaking in text are still people.

The fact that you see these interactions as just lines of text gives some context to your posts.

I think the idea of an mmo is supposed to be able to work with solitary people, the problem is not everything can be for everyone and also there are limited resources

I also wrote unless you choose to invest in them. And even you will understand that even though written text by strangers is social interaction, in the anonymity of the internet it carries way less impact than interacting with people present as complete personas. But I can appreciate your little forum crusade here, the context of your posts have always been clear to me anyway Always caustic against all those big, bad elitists. Well, see that as my contribution to society, arguing fervently against the holier than thou collectivist type.

When referring to yourself as an introvert, you surely must be referring to this definition, as per the Merriam-Webster online dictionary:

" 1: something (as the retractile proboscis of some worms) that is or can be drawn in especially by inkittention ". (Edit: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/introvert since the filter doesn’t like this definition)

From your replies to Aiwe and phys, I think asinine is a more apt description. Fortunately for yourself, you won’t choose to invest in my critical reply

I don’t think anybody says anybody should be excluded for anything, it’s only about how you design it. Do you design it with a minimal size guild in mind and allowing for difference between guilds where a bigger guild is indeed able to get more or bigger? Or do you design with no minimum size in mind and scale everything so that it is all pretty much the same for everybody and everybody can get anything when putting in the same personal effort. But guilds are not only supposed to be about personal effort but also about the effort as a group.

That is the big difference between how you should scale guild-stuff vs open world stuff.

Let’s pretend a guild hall = 1000 units of effort. I’d like to see a system where 1 person can contribute that 1000 units of effort, even if that takes a year. If 10 people are contributing, then that makes it 100 units of effort per person. If you have a guild of 1000, then 1 unit of effort each and voila the guild hall is complete! Making multiple paths to contribute to that effort would be the ideal scenario.

While I definitely agree on cross gamemode missions. Im not sure catering to really tiny guilds is a thing that would be healthy for the game. At least regarding the bigger goals for a guild anyway.

snip

I’m still new to the game, and have not read all of the thread so am unsure of whether or not this point has been addressed.

I wholeheartedly disagree with your point of “I’m not sure catering to really tiny guilds is a thing that would be healthy for the game.” Health of the game = income to Anet. Nothing else.

Currently small guilds, such as the one I have, are able to exchange gold for influence, thus making it easier to purchase guild upgrades. Given we are a guild of two and will never increase it beyond that number, so how do we gain the majority of our influence? I buy gems and exchange it for gold, and then in turn, exchange it for influence.

How is that not “healthy for the game” when it directly puts money in Anet’s pocket?

“Given we are a guild of two” Does that mean you are a guild?

“How is that not “healthy for the game” when it directly puts money in Anet’s pocket?"
It trivialized the content for bigger guilds and does not reward them for managing to come with more people putting in more man-power and more man-hour. That makes is less fun for bigger guilds. When a considered less fun the player-base will shrink and that results in less money.

In fact, if a game is built around the principal you describe here (buy your rewards) then you will get a very boring game. I recently learned that the monetize person at Anet has the title ‘Lead designer’ what really worries me as that would possibly result is a game designed more in that way, but it does hurt the game.

According to the game, yes we are a guild. If we weren’t a guild, the game would not denote us as one. If I am able to purchase/earn a guild hall, it does not detract from you being able to do. Your guild will have just as much playing with your new toy as we will, if not more given that you have more people to enjoy it with.

The suggestions in this thread about scalability allow for all to enjoy the guild hall feature and play the game as they wish to. There are so many real life reasons that many cannot or will not enjoy large guilds. To limit guild halls to large guilds will ultimately hurt Anet’s income as they are limiting their market.

I find big guilds less fun, as do many others. I’ve run them, been a member in them, and have gotten to the stage in life where I won’t be in one, regardless of the in-game incentives. Take a look at many MMORPGs (I’ve been playing them for 15 years now) and you will note that enforced large grouping is not popular. It might be enjoyable for some, but making it optional (which GW2 currently does quite well) is the way to make everyone happy.

This debate ran rampant in WoW when I used to play; how does it require more skill to do a 40 person raid when people press one or two buttons constantly rather than for a team of 2-10(insert any number) to press multiple buttons constantly, and why should they be rewarded moreso for doing so? I have no idea of the current state of WoW but when I left years ago, they had implemented systems for everyone to eventually achieve high level gear through multiple means, be it PvP, PvE, crafting, etc.

When I played Rift, I was able to own multiple housing instances, including the most expensive ones, and had one of the largest guild halls. Doing so did not detract from anyone’s enjoyment but increased my own. If housing and guild halls were not instanced, then I would have a different point of view, as I did when I played Ultima Online. With instancing, the number of instances is unlimited.

Frankly?

Here’s the thing – this is Guild Wars.

No this is Guild Wars 2. In Guild Wars I had an amazing guild hall. Yes I was running a decent sized guild at the time, but I didn’t get it through help from anyone but myself. I bought it, just like I expected to be able to do so here.

Just because yourself or others enjoy playing in medium to large sized guilds shouldn’t meant that those who do not or no longer enjoy such social activities should be excluded from enjoying guild halls.

Hi,

We are a guild of 3 guys . We love WWW.
With Guild halls , we will have to do guild missions.

So why we have to do puzzle jump and things like this , when in this game we just love killing people on the battlefield !

Why can t we play as we want .. ??

HoT will include a solution for this for both guilds that are WvW, and PvP oriented that want to build and expand their Guild Halls and need the favor generated by guild missions. Same goes for guilds that have a mix of players interested in all three. More info down the road a bit on how this will work once we’ve got it a little more solid on our end.

Edited to add: Everyone will have to do the actual mission to capture the guild hall once per hall though no matter what. If your group online is too small, you’ll need to invite friends (or pay/beg/sing-songs-to-woo peeps in Lion’s Arch!) to come with you and help you claim the guild hall to own one. Or you could always grow your guild

That is refreshing to read

WTB: temporary friends to secure a guild hall :P Offering turnips for a festive fray

How do you reset Hero Points?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tarnicus.2865

Tarnicus.2865

This is the first MMORPG I’ve played where significant changes were made to skills/talents/traits/etc and a full refund of points wasn’t given to enable the player to choose how they wish to spec their character. Understandably, many are upset about this.

I really can’t work out the system that has been used. On my main character (level 39 guardian) I had 33 skill(Hero) points before the patch, and have the same afterwards. I seem to have access to skills that I didn’t choose before, and everything I did use is still there. On my alts, they appear to be the same.

On my girlfriend’s account, all of the 23 skill/hero points she had on her level 20-something necromancer have been spent for her.

We were saving our skill points for the most part until we had a better understanding of game mechanics. I seem to have been rewarded for saving mine whilst she has been punished. Yes we are both low level and can easily get more hero points through levelling and doing skill challenges, however we cannot understand why our characters seem to have been affected so differently by the patch.

Guild Halls for small guilds

Actually there was an answer to these and other questions during one of the live streams. The reply was that we who are in small guilds need to rethink what a guild is.

:(

I’d rather Anet rethink what a guild is. It is different for everyone. I’ve run and been in enough medium to large sized guilds this lifetime and prefer to play the way I enjoy. It is a shame that means not having access to a feature that can be a wonderful creative outlet. Perhaps Anet could take a look at housing in Rift and see the amazing creations that are offered and are available to each individual, rather than enforcing large group play that many are not interested in.

So New Buyers of GW2 Get what exactly?

Tarnicus.2865

You could get refunded if you bought the game within one month. Dev will upgrade your account to HoT version without losing progression.

Not what I heard. My understanding is that you lose everything in the process of that refund, including accrued gems and character slots. Then you have to start from scratch with a fresh account and five blank toon slots.

Not according to the reply I received from support when inquiring about this matter:

“Additionally if you wish to repurchase the game or the expansion at a later time, you will be able to add the code to your account and pick up where you last left off so that you may not loose(sic) your progress.”

If you bought GW2 within the past 30 days Anet support is refunding/compensating customers. Beyond 30 days and you may be screwed.

Only if you purchased it through the GW2 site. For people who bought it elsewhere (such as myself), tough luck.

So for mere 50$ i get to pre-order...

Since we are reposting. I feel like this is still important.

- Their refund policy SO FAR, is deleting those accounts, losing all your progress, and even being unable to relink your GW1 account.

THATS SCAM! IF you can get behind a company that scammed hundreds of players with a false advertising campaign, go for it.

snip

I received a response to my ticket mentioning the the loss of progress with the refund (as I purchased GW2 on June 4 for myself and girlfriend):

“Every Edition of the Heart of Thorns Expansion comes with a free Guild Wars 2 Core game for those who do not already own Guild Wars 2. There will not be an available expansion version released that does not include the Core game for a lower price. However if you have recently purchased the core game, we can certainly offer you a refund (Note that we can only refund a Guild Wars 2 copy if it was purchased within the last 30 days). Please note that the code that you are requesting a refund will be permanently disabled. If you registered the code, all features, including game access, will be removed. If you haven’t used the code, the code cannot be registered. Additionally if you wish to repurchase the game or the expansion at a later time, you will be able to add the code to your account and pick up where you last left off so that you may not loose your progress.

If you understand and agree to the terms of the refund stated above, please reply with the following information below so that we may begin the refund process:

Your Guild Wars 2 purchase Order Number provided in the receipt of the purchase(s)
The e-mail address you used when making the purchase
If a credit/debit card was used: the last four digits (only the last four, please) of the card
If PayPal® was used: the invoice ID from your PayPal® payment history
If online banking was used, please make sure that you are contacting us from the e-mail address used to make the purchase
Your billing address including your zip code or postal code

Note: Paysafecard purchases cannot be refunded under any circumstances. If your game purchase was not made from our website, please contact the retailer you purchased the game from to inquire of a refund. It is not possible for us to refund a purchase made from another retailer.

We look forward to your reply.

This doesn’t help me as I did not purchase the game from their site, however this is some good news for those who have purchased the game from the site within the last 30 days who are seeking a refund in order to purchase HoT and NOT lose any progress.

PS – sorry if this has been mentioned already as I have not read the entirety of this thread.

A map is a map, if you buy a house with 2 stories, it is still a house it does not magically become two house’s.

Strangely if one puts a wall in the middle of it, it becomes a duplex, and thus two houses :P

My email to Anet support asking for clarification:

I recently purchased GW2 for myself and girlfriend and have spent $30 on the gem store in preparation for the expansion. I was dismayed when I read today the cost of the expansion, and that it will include the base game. For new customers such as myself, this appears as “double dipping” or trying to extract as much money as possible from your customers. The FAQ stated that the base game was REQUIRED for HoT. Now I have attempted to prepare for the expansion, only to find that I have wasted my money and should have waited.

According to this reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3a46s4/preorders_for_heart_of_thorns_are_now_live/cs96lfu) an Anet representative has stated “We’ll most certainly help anyone out who just bought the core game and would like to make the change to a HoT pre-purchase.” Can you please explain what that help will be? According to responses in the forums, it will be terminating the original account(s) and not refunding gem purchases. Is this seriously the “help” being offered, the choice between losing all progress in the game and money spent on it, or being charged an exorbitant price for an expansion, that I was under the impression I was preparing for by purchasing the game and additional character slot?

New player leaving because of HoT. The irony.

@briggah thanks so much for your sarcasm. Also your ability to huge how much I play and what modes in which I play. You are exactly the type of person that is wrong with this game. You are ridiculously rude and snarky for no reason. Enjoy your high horse must get lonely at the top of your own pedestal. Anywhoo enough of feedin the trolls right. I don’t know why makes me want to stay more the high cost and low regard of the expansion so far as we know or wonderfully enjoyable people like brigah

Briggah’s comments appeared sincere to me, and I have no connection to either of you. Your comments on the other hand are coming across in a manner that is exactly what you are accusing another of.

I agree with your initial post about the pricing of the expansion (also a new player here who purchased an account for myself and girlfriend).

This is what Anet propose to people that ask for an HoT upgrade when they bought GW2 before the FAQ ninja update.

Wow that is pretty pathetic of Anet.

1)Say that the core game is required to play the expansion
2)New players buy core game in preparation for HoT
3)Anet announces pre-purchase and adds core game in for free, meaning those new players have just wasted money buying the core game
4)Anet ninja changes the faq, but doesn’t change the part of the faq about the price(suspicious)
5)Now new players who bought the core game before are forced to lose all the progress they have made, gems they’ve purchased, and the link they made to their gw1 account if they wanna play HoT

Precisely! New players such as myself, purchased 2 copies of the game (for myself and girlfriend) and have spent $30 on the gem store (2 additional character slots and exchange for some gold to set up our own guild and buy larger bags) thus far, and are then “rewarded” for preparing for the expansion by being given the option of getting a refund to lose all progress or pay an exorbitant expansion price?

Sorry Anet, even though we are both thoroughly enjoying the game, we won’t be buying the expansion at this price nor will we get shafted by the refund on offer. If you want to increase sales, you aren’t going the right way about it.
