Can you provide more insight/explanation as to why you think adding deployable cannons would be a good idea? Is this something people have asked for? Is it a case of something you wanted to do since launch but for various reasons never got around to?
I realise the poll is only about adding them on a trial basis but I’d rather not have resources wasted on a potentially significant strategic change to the gamemode without more elaboration as to why this wasn’t included with all the other siege back in 2012. Knowing your past reasoning could help us make a more informed choice, or provide specific suggestions on implementation.
I’d much rather see something new like deployable barricades than cannons, which already exist.
Rather than penalizing people who play when few others do, you should be incentivizing more people to play during those hours.
One way you could do this is to scale personal rewards based on either:
- what hour of the day a person is playing, or
- the ratio of the server’s current WvW population to its 24 hour average WvW population. (weekly and/or maximum populations could also be used)
If the increased rewards during such periods compete with or exceed what people can obtain in other areas of the game, people would be more encouraged to play WvW instead, thus helping to fill the shortfall in player numbers. I understand the outnumbered buff already fulfills this role to a certain extent, but clearly it is still inadequate.
An additional way you could get players into WvW would be to display some sort of ingame message (similar to when PvP tournaments are held, or when Scarlett was invading a given map) to members of the server asking them for help in WvW and mentioning the increased rewards to be gained.
I do not believe lowering the value of people’s contributions to the score during “off-hours” is a fair or equitable solution, as it will only make people care less about playing during said hours.
Let us build placeable barricades as a new type of siege, similar to the vine walls in the guild hall (but made of wood). Perhaps the superior version could also have spikes that do bleeding to enemies. Of course they should be destructible but they could be used strategically in a whole variety of situations to slow down the enemy or provide some form of cover.
Also, please increase the view distance so I can see players (enemies and allies) from further away. If I want to treb cows or mortar fire to where the fighting is, I currently have to rely on where the dots are on the map because if I look there normally it’s just empty terrain (or just spell effects if I’m lucky). Likewise there is no indication via damage numbers appearing that I’ve hit any enemies if I can’t see them.
And when a player does appear as they run towards me, I often have to wait a few seconds before I see the nameplate – is it an ally? is it an enemy? Given how many professions have long-distance gap closers, knowing that in time can mean the difference between life and death.
Enemy targetability distance also needs to be increased – if I can see an enemy I should be able to target them. This problem can be frustrating on a ballista.
