Lack of New Armor Skins

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Wow … just wow. So there are three outfits that could’ve been 3 new armor sets instead.

If this is the way things are supposed to go from now, I will stop caring about the game entirely. I’ve already been very disappointed about the lack of armor released in the gem store prior to HoT.

Not only does the lack of new armor kill my motivation to play the game, this crap right here shows that there is something very, very wrong with the company running this game.

Still haven’t bought HoT, and I will not do so unless the game gets way more armor soon. And not as part of some updates scattered throughout the next year but as part of the content complete bundle that HoT was supposed to be.

Cold hard facts:

Base game at launch: 60$.
HoT at launch: 50$.

Now is HoT bringing new content that’s roughly 5/6 of base game’s size? And that’s not considering they already have a foundation to build on unlike with base game.
…yeah i rest my case.

Exactly. Base game had something around 45 sets (each with 3 distinct looks for each armor class).

HoT has 2 (3 if you count in the revamped guild armor).

That’s where my problem lies.

I don’t expect 5/6 of this amount but way more than 2 sets.

Why would AN give us armor skins in the actual game when they can sell them to us via the cash shop instead? Once upon a time, we were told by the developers that cosmetic rewards were going to be the end game. We just didn’t realize at the time all we needed to conquer the end game was a credit card.

The huge problem with this is: They don’t sell armor skins in the cash shop anymore. (another thing that really kittenes me off)

It has been all about those godkitten outfits for over a year now.

So with no new armor in the cash shop and almost no new armor in the expansion things look really grim for us armor skin aficionados.

My personal theory is that they are holding back more armor for future updates. But that would be really disappointing since Buy-to-Play should be about buying complete packages and right now there’s a huge chunk missing from the package I thought would have the same quality GW2 did.

If I’d seen this post earlier I wouldn’t have posted a thread regarding this issue myself.

Collecting, combining and customizing armor is actually very high on my list of favorite things to do in GW2.

But there isn’t really much to do in Heart of Thorns regarding this. I was expecting a broad selection of cool new armor styles to mix and match. Not just two new sets (which I find rather boring/ugly) and revamped guild armor.

Foolish as I apparently seem to be I was wondering if they would come up with a system that revolutionizes armor customization. Something like the carapax armor upgrades but with a range of minor details on every part you could choose from while upgrading…

Obviously I couldn’t have been further from the truth.

I was quite shocked when I checked the wardrobe for the new armor sets. 2 completely new sets per armor class and revamped guild armor? That’s it?

So basically 3 sets per armor class? This is far too little.

The original game shipped with something between 40-50 sets per armor class.

While I don’t expect an expansion to feature that same amount, this gap is way to big. I would’ve expected something like 10-12 new sets at least, not 3.

Especially for a game like Guild Wars 2 where hunting for new skins was once promoted as a key feature and is actually the thing in HoT that I was looking forward to.

Next to the specialization grind this is a huge letdown regarding Heart of Thorns.

It’s good to see, by the way, that the people behind the armor skins could fit a new outfit for the gem store into their schedule instead.

Char comments in their player's language

I would really love the option to hear the comments of other characters in the respective language of their player.

With 3 or 4 (or even more?) different language versions and the megaserver system in place it would be kinda cool and interesting to hear more voices and in different languages. This could add a lot to the atmosphere within the game.

The world would feel more like a place where people from different corners of the planet come together!

This should be an option of course since some players may want to understand the character’s comments for tactical purposes without having to learn them in different languages. (Which actually isn’t that big of a deal though! )

[suggestion] More human female body types

I’d like to go into a different direction and request skinny human models with smaller breasts. The only “flat” one (although not really) in the game has a buggy waist that causes absurd armor scaling.

So a new model with a smaller bossom would be nice. (or a fix of the old one)

Best thing would be a complete overhaul of charakter creation so that we can customize our character’s bodies to a greater extent. But that appears to be very unlikely.

[Suggestion] Warrior's new weapon -> Staff?

I would just love to see the staff as the new weapon for the warrior. The staffs in the game are actually more of a magical so what would a non-magical warrior do with such a weapon? Beat the crap out of everyone!

Something like this but more aggressive of course!

Think of it – the very natural style of fighting with a staff would be a perfect match for the jungle theme of the expansion.

Some people may even get the monk-ish vibe out of this fighting style they miss so much.

New Idea:
Another addition to this could be that one can link outfits to certain locations. So I – for example – could create a warm winter-esque outfit and link it to the norn areas. Each time I enter one of those snowy maps my character would automatically change cloths to better suit the climate of the region.

My younger brothers actually brought this up when I showed them a bit of the beautiful world in the game. ‘Why isn’t she wearing warmer cloths?‘, they asked. So yeah … why isn’t she?

Character Creation Options You Want

I assume that a complete overhaul of body customization is not an option.

So I would really want to see more body types for the different races. A small breasted human female body for example, the one we already have in the game has a buggy bottom that messes up most of the skirts.

I would also love to see norn and human hairstyles made available to the other race as well … faces too. The norn stuff looks too beautiful and pure to only be available to these big brutish ladies.

That’s probably never going to happen but that’s what I’d wish for.

At least I hope that we will get more faces and more hairstyles! The expansion should contain some. Perhaps something jungle themed or a bit wild but still suitable for normal situations as well.

Edit: Oh … and another thing that came to my mind: Some screenshots show the early sylvari with some cute hairstyles … why not bring those back to the game?

If you’re into styling characters as much as I am you may want to check out, discuss and support this thread where I’m suggesting the addition of more slots for custom armor sets:

Thank you very much!

I also think that this feature might bear a lot of play value.

Aesthetics are a big part of GW2 so having more ways to unleash one’s creativity would also mean having more ways to set personal goals within the game.

Players who consider a good outfit part of a character’s completion may want to continue playing, farming and crafting for new skins.

I liked your idea too! I took this into a more ‘crunch oriented’ direction.

[Suggestion] Slots for more custom armor sets

As much as I like collecting skins I recently found myself unmovtivated to continue to do so. Most of my characters have the armor sets I wanted them to have making grinding for new pieces rather pointless.

I have some ideas for new outfits but I don’t want to abandon the old ones. Transmuting them back and forth seems too much of a waste of charges (and money) to me.

Why not adding additional tabs/slots for more transmuted armor sets?

With the ability to add more transmuted armor sets things would get interesting again. My ranger could get some sort of ceremonial armor (not the one from the store) next to her adventuring armor.

You could create different armor sets to better suit the region you’re traveling through.

Guilds could use this to have uniforms when meeting in their future guild halls.

I attached a little “prototype” of how I could look in the game. It’s bascially an extension of the wardrobe tab. People could add more slots by buying them. Slots should be nameable so that players could easily organize their outfits.

Like all the other additional slots in the game this could be a nice feature to monetize. Not only could ANet sell the slots, people would propably buy more transmutation charges.

What do you think?

PLEASE more armor sets instead of outfits!

‘I could really use this piece … oh wait … forgot it’s just an outfit!’

With the exception of some super hero games Guild Wars 2 definetly has one of the most powerful armor customization systems in the market. So it’s even more of a shame that the recent updates to the gemstore were just complete outfits with non-interchangeable pieces.

Come on ANet … first you introduce this amazing skin system that has us customize our character’s armor to a degree what hopefully becomes the industry’s standard and then you release some of the most amazing pieces of the game as stupid outfits?

If I wanted to dress like everyone else I would roll a dark skinned female human thief with one of those neon coloured flower hairstyles and put the tier 3 cultural chestpiece on.

If the outfits were armor skins I would’ve already spent 30-40$ or more on them. Since they’re completely useless to create an individual style I bought none to this day.

The way I see it outfits have two advantages over individual skins:
- no clipping (tremendous job btw: http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/gw2-ceremonial-plated-outfit-41.jpg)
- no transmutation required/easy to change

On the other hand:
- the only heavy issue with clipping would be a combination between the medium coats and leg pieces which are larger than the tight pants normally found in the medium armor category

Some suggestions for a solution:
- every outfit comes as an armor set as well (don’t care if it’s one or two seperate products in the gemstore)
- is there a way to restrict certain armor combinations? like restricting the leg piece from the ceremonial plated armor from being used with a medium coat but still being usable with the 3 medium shirts? Probably too complicated but still worth a thought
- release 3 slightly different versions for every armor type with every outfit to reduce the risk clipping without putting out 3 completely different armor sets (e.g.: medium version of ceremonial leg piece could be a much smaller pair of trousers with some of the metal ornaments on it)

I would really apreciate to see more armor sets in the future. It’s really frustrating to see awesome outfits that I can’t make any use of.

And while we are at it: more medium shirts (thanks for the glorious armor piece!!) and more heavy and light trousers would be awesome! And bring back the tribal armor!

Thank you for your attention! :*

Issues with character art, weapons, or armor?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Issue: Waist area of character model is bugged / causes large bottoms with coats, robes, skirts etc.

Race: Human
Gender: Female (2nd row, 3rd body type in character creation)

I really like this body because of the rather natural body proportions. But whenever a character with this mesh is wearing something like robes or coats his bottom seems to be blown out of proportion and becomes ridiculously large.

It appears that the armor is attached too high at the characters waist.

Here are some screenshots I made to showcase this issue:
