Thief not beginner friendly?

I personally main thief and know most of it’s flaws and weaknesses, one being that it’s survivability being based on evades and blinds. I have seen a drop in the amount of newbie thieves running around in PvE lately and was wondering if the class should not be too much of a “high risk, high reward” styled class or shouldn’t have such a steep learning curve. Let me know your opinion

D/P and SB is king right now, since anet wants to make D/P the only good weapon set. Condi thief is a pain to play against too and a good condi thief could easily outplay classes which don’t have many cleansing abilities in WvW or PvP, such as other thieves. Then again, you could run S/D. It features a completely different playstyle, which focuses on high survivability (Infinite Shadowstep, and spammable evade plus boon rip), making you an excellent brawler. As secondary obviously the Shortbow. The shortbow is a weapon a thief should master first. Good thieves can out play any class except for another good thief. So every other clkittenes them. Thief in general has become a high risk high reward class, which is very unforgiving to newcomers or people that haven’t played for a long time. You just have to accept any 1v1 opportunity and keep practicing.

With all the nerfs towards d/d, i don’t think it’s a good set anymore unless you play hit and run. Of course you can still use it, but as soon as it’s a 1v1 against any othe thief set, you lose. Though you can use this build against nobheads in unranked and see the 10k backstab
