OK. I can try to gather up some friends to assist with the personal story instances. But do the personal quest instances scale to the number of players, like the dynamic events? Or are they fixed? So, that whether I enter solo or with 4 friends the battle is exactly the same difficulty?
Yes you can. Whomever kicks off the instance will be the main character and get to make the choices. When you exit, the other player will get the option to advance their personal quest or not. If they choose “yes”, then you will both be on the same next step in the quest. If they choose no, because they want to make a different choice, they will have to start the instance and have you help.
Thanks for the reply and suggestions. This is on my Elementalist and the particular quest that I finally gave up on was “Ashes of the Past”. I’m finding the personal quest on my Ranger to be challenging, but not impossible. But he has a different questline, so it’s not an apples to apples comparison. But, at least I’ll get to enjoy the personal questline on one character.
I’m glad to hear there is no requirement to complete the personal questline though. At this point, I’d rather just do more area quests and events on my Elementalist than continue to try his personal quest in its current state. It seems like it was a great idea, but not balanced for all the different classes that might be playing through.
OK. I’m giving up on the Personal Story. It’s just impossibly hard for me. Yes, I’m sure many of you breezed through these instances with absolutely no issues, but every battle has gotten ridiculously hard. And I’m already being downleveled because I’m higher than the quest with higher level gear. So, clearly it’s my lack of skill.
But that’s not really the point. My question is: What is the impact of simply NOT doing the personal questline at all? It seems like a complete waste of time and energy to even try it, so I’m not. Will there be any long-term impacts to my character since I won’t be doing the personal questline?
Server: Tarnished Coast
Map: All
Party Size: 5
Problem: Everything. Playing as a group is a complete disaster.
1. Forming a group is impossible. The 5 of us grouped up, but R-clicking on the portrait and selecting “Join in…” doesn’t do anything. Didn’t matter if we were in Overlow or the main map.
2. And even if you ARE in the same instance, if you are more than ~30 yards from another player in the party, their portrait goes black and the blue dot on the map either disappears or shows incorrectly extremely far away.
3. ANY transition (Waypoint travel, personal quest, entering main city, etc) results in the 5 person group put in 2-3 different instances. And see #1 above why you can’t just R-click and “Join in”…it doesn’t work.
So, the 5 of us played for 3 hours, and of that those three hours, the time the 5 of us were in the same instance playing together was about 30 minutes. The rest of the time we were grouped with 1-2 others or solo trying to figure out how to get the 5 of us back together. Utterly ridiculous that they haven’t fixed this yet.
