Actually there’s a pretty impressive chunk of games available only Linux already via Steam. I don’t expect to see EA putting out any Linux games in the next year or two, but a lot of the small to medium sized shops (and a handful of the large ones) are already doing cross platform games.
The PvP achievement is listed as one of the required ones for the meta. You need the meta to take part in the story mode. How exactly can you do the story mode without doing the PvP part of the meta?
On part 3 I don’t see anything there that you can’t just buy from the store, and the backpack is a vanity item not a PvP item. I’m talking about if they created an arena you could only take part in if you completed some PvE content, like doing jumping puzzles or completing some set of high level dungeons. That’s basically the equivalent of them tying the living world story quest to a PvP only achievement. If I could just pay some gems to take part I wouldn’t even bother with the PvP stuff, but as it stands now I have no choice.
Something important to remember is that even if it doesn’t run native on Linux it should still be playable on SteamOS through this streaming system they’ve talked about. You’d still need a Windows (or OS X) computer to actually run GW2, but you could play/control it from SteamOS. It’s not as nice as a native version, but it makes a nice stop-gap during the transition period from Windows 7 to SteamOS.
So, I consider myself a PvE player. I don’t do PvP, have 0 interest in PvP, hope to never ever in my entire life do PvP in any way whatsoever. You’re annoyed, because someone is devaluing your kitten by grinding PvP kills. Woo, big freaking deal. Here’s news for you, no one cares. I don’t care if you have some ungodly PvP rank, I’ll still laugh at you, it means exactly nothing. Congratulations, you have a lot of free time to waste. I want the meta achievement. I think the mini is neat, and I want to take part in the story mode. Oh look, I need some kittened PvP achievement to get that. Guess what, I’ll take whatever action is necessary to unlock the PvE experience that involves as little contact with PvP as I can possibly manage.
If PvE players weren’t doing it this way, instead of this post we’d have one on here griping about all the bad PvE players in the PvP arenas, and how can’t all these stupid PvE players stay out of PvP. You know what, we are, EXCEPT when anet forces us to go into PvP because of idiotic decision like tying PvE content to PvP actions.
As a PvP player how would you like it if anet started tying PvP stuff to PvE achievements? Oh you want that ultimate slayer of whatever title? Sorry, you need to go complete 20 jumping puzzles. Want to take part in this PvP event? You need to go complete these 5 dungeons first.
