Looking for a Hammer Build

If you want to run with a bigger group, sword+warhorn are the usual pick.
A classic support/shout heal warrior build is this one:

If you want to do more damage but still support through condition cleansing try this, it’s the build I am currently running and I really like it:

Hope that helps, I am sure there are a lot of better warrior WvW players than me with better builds but you don’t really go wrong with these.

Risks are:
- no real identity (reason to fight/server pride/fight tactics [mostly roaming/skill group, bus or zerg])
- lesser motivation (being 1/50 means I have impact… being 1/500, means I mean nothing and the me being there or not makes no difference)
- kills tactics (as we saw with EoTM, that works by color, people mostly K-train following a blue doritos, and some times a few little groups run on the side / form when people got singled-out from the zerg OR guild group go there and owns the map because pugs with no vocal can hardly compete)
- language-specific (English might be expected from all NA players, but EU have language-specific servers, and the people from these servers usually expect to play in their language of choice – and EoTM is basically English or go away… You’d never believe all the kitten I’ve got for asking in french whether there were any french people on the map…)

While I find the idea of server alliances very interesting, Jocksy clearly highlighted the problems associated with a 3 color system.

Honestly, have any of you every played EoTM without the 3 colors just going round in a Karmatrain with occasional clashes that are only determined by a) number of players in the zerg and b) number of skilled players. Both elements are random and cannot be controlled.
I have yet to see a meaningfully led zerg battle due to the language barrier and the lack of voice comms and coordination.
And haven’t we all run into organized guilds that are having a fun time farming the disorganized zerg blobs?

Please bear this in mind when you ask for a 3 color system. You lose most of what, imho, constitutes WvW:
- Server wide coordination
- Playing with players you know and (mostly) can count on supporting each other
- Communicating with voice comms
- Having interesting open field fights
- Defending objectives or sieging them (vs. karma training over them)
- The fun of fighting for your server (I do admit that this seems less of an incentive in lower tiers)

In that sense and in order to preserve what makes WvW dear to most of us let’s think about server alliances to boost numbers etc. but please do not remove the great elements of WvW by throwing everyone into 3 random colors and take away all the great strategy, tactics and coordination.

The discussion around community, world identity, etc. has been very enlightening. I also wanted to call out everyone who approached the discussion with an open mind. Whether you like Edge of the Mists or not, its valuable to discuss some of the concepts there and see if they are applicable to the other WvW maps.

I think that there has been an abundance of great ideas so far and a couple that I personally don’t like.

I happened to play a lot of EoTM over the weekend and as much as I like playing with people from other servers, EoTM basically is one huge 24/7 Karma (or WXP) train.

While people are quite divided over the PvE elements (I am not a fan of it because I want to play against other players) the greatest problem I have with EoTM is the total lack of coordination.

One of my guildies was leading and doing a great job of it but there is hardly any way to control the masses and have some meaningful play. You either have superior numbers and win or you don’t. At one point we somehow got lucky and noticed, that our zerg mainly consisted of 80s. Good for us, we steamrolled everyone as people seemed to know what they were doing or at least weren’t all rallybots.

Yesterday evening we ran into two enemy guilds who were apparently having their guild raid on EoTM. 40+ organized players = end of story.
We tried a couple of times and then logged off – no point in getting owned because no one listens, groups up, pushes together etc.

On Kodash we always have a number of people who are not on Team Speak and aren’t doing what the commander wants. But there always is a good core croup that does coordinate and follows the commander. Worst case we can request support from other maps to quickly defend our garrison or join forces to take an enemy’s garrison.

For me and my guild that is what makes WvW fun. It more than a mindless karma train 24/7.

On EoTM every once in a blue moon I see someone dropping siege to defend but mostly I have the feeling that all zergs are happy going clockwise conquering everything.

Summary: The danger I see when it comes to throwing people together based on colors is that you will lose out on all elements of coordinated play and I think that this is what most people appreciate about WvW.

WvW Waypoints not opening

Yesterday it happened twice on the Drakkar Lake Homelands that our WP in Bay didn’t open although the timer said it was open. We waited until it counted to 0 and then nothing happened. The first time it was delayed 10s after the timer came off and we barely managed to port to defend afterwards.
The second time again the timer was open but the WP wasn’t for more than 20s. No one could port and then the Bay was lost. Really frustrating.
Anyone else having this problem?

FSP - GH - DL

Well it looks like an easy week for FSP and GH. Since the last patch a lot of german players have problems with GW2 in combination with the biggest german ISP. Especially in the evening. Disconnects, 30 sec. lags and stuff like that… So if you see a DL player running agaist walls and stuff like that: have mercy. Kill us quickly :-)

So, I finally get to go on the forums again after a few days without internet.
It is a really nice match up and we are enjoying it a lot! Great fights, pretty epic sieges and loads of fun.
Sunday we had a great time with a whole nudist raid of FPS – can’t believe we hadn’t thought of that earlier

Unfortunately Thorgrim is right, many Germans have serious lags due to German Telekom. Yesterday half of our guild had 10s+ skill lags on FPS during our raid and when we changed to Gunnar the other half did…

But never-the-less it is a great match up and we are enjoying ourselves a lot!
Keep up the good fight!
