You only need to casually skim any game’s forum to see a lot of people equating the MMO tag with EQ style gameplay, and this happens here as well. At least a handful of forumers in favor of the recent changes have argued that an MMO simply has to have grind and power creep and frankly that’s getting tiring because that is just not true and I wonder about the intention behind this. Why do some people oppose variety in their gaming?

I see this all the time. People say “But this is an MMO! So it has to be somewhat like WoW!”, when really they mean “WoW is the only MMO I ever played, so all others have to be like it!”. No, just no, MMO merely describes a game mode, they can be anything, from RPG to FPS to RTS. They could make a Minesweeper MMO for heavens sake!
This notion that an MMO has to be like xyz is what keeps ruining promising games.

Just because you have no interest in something, doesn’t mean it won’t affect you.

Thank you for this post. I’m normally just a lurker on game forums but these recent changes are very disappointing and I would like to voice my dismay.

Will I leave GW2 alltogether? Unlikely but I’ll be sure to not spend a single cent on this game, no gems and most importantly no expansion packs.

I really wish this had a sub fee, I’d cancel in a heartbeat as I don’t take lightly being lied to.
