You need to learn the Anti Portal tactic cunningly stumbled upon by AG last night when an enemy group kept repeatedly trying to portal bomb us. It involves finding a suitable structure and as soon as the portal appear all run behind it, as said enemy runs around the structure you run out the other side and chase each other in circles.
This is now called the “Benny Hill” and requires everyone on VoiP to hum the tune whilst executing this vastly superior portal bomb destroying tactic.
On a more serious note, we use portals a lot and we break portal bombs a lot. Voice Comms is really the key. Zergs following commanders are always going to lose out to coordinated comms groups, portal or not. I’m happy to run with a mesmer or without one. It makes no difference, as long as people are on comms.
Really good fight in Stonemist last night AG versus UW. It took us about an hour non stop running back to wear those defenders down and finally cap it. All the better because it wasnt just zerg versus zerg. In the end we had to use multiple portals to get up to the top of Sm just so we could slowly work our way back down taking out siege and even then the lord fight was still a close one, with half of our team dead. Props to the defenders Underworld, you really did make us work for it.
Quiet simply, no. As much as they might occasionally create zergs forming they are a blindingly good tool if you know what you are doing. I personally love the fact its a zerg marker, enabling me to ensure I know where the zerg is and where to take my squad to destroy them. Small groups won’t make marks on the map enabling them to be stealthy. Marks disappear quiet quickly as well and sometimes random npc encounters will stick cross swords on a keep / tower / supply causing you to waste a scout checking it out.
Removing those marks would mean a lot of no action on the maps, which would become very boring very quickly. PvDoor no thanks, I want to know where the fights are.
Skydda : Skly (above) is leader of unity, I am one of the WvW leaders (but we do have several people that run events as Skly has said.
Just want to point out some of the fun we had on the Aurora Glade map on Friday night and a big props to everyone involved as it was an epic 4? hours filled with nonstop action.
In summary : (apologies if I got this wrong it was all a bit hectic to say the least)
Our event started at 9pm, we were outnumbered and had only a supply camp to our north on our map.
We decided to go with the flow, I switch on commander as we need the help and kick off, two quick supply camps and a tower are taken.
A second tower is under-way when the first tower comes under attack. Its a race against time but we managed to cap the tower, portal and defend the second tower. Time for the garrison which weirdly falls fairly easily.
Then the orb gets taken, now I’m not sure what happened here.. it reset maybe or was bugged, we chase down the team taking it, think we have killed the carrier, cant find the orb or carrier! and spend a crazy 10 minutes panicking where it is only for it to reset.
that was the first 45 minutes…. it was non stop for 3.5 hours!
3 orb defenses… oh Jade Sea that Centaur camp was not the place to go with the orb carrier (squishy squishy tunnel exit)
1 epic garrison defense, throwing ourselves into the circle to stop it capping everyone on the map had though we lost the garrison at that point only to pull off some masterstroke of a rally (dont know how)
and then there was the lemming incident! (The less said about that the better)
There is still a great community on the AG server and most days whilst the underdogs we make some great achievements.
Miller’s Sound will know this because last night we managed to steal a tower right outside their garrison from right under their noses, even though we were outnumbered, they had three orbs of buffs, and the tower was fully upgraded.
(I would like to shout out to all the tag alongs we had with us last night, following my crazy back and forth to nab that tower, you guys were brilliant and thank you for sticking with it)
Very sad that so many jumped ship, we were in a nice position, mid table. First week we lose a match and so many couldn’t take it. Now we wil be lucky to not be in the bottom ranks within a month given we have very few large organised WvW guilds left.
Sadly this week hitting Millers, which has just had a massive new influx of players means we are totally outmatched. So another wasted week of WvW
Free transfers should be switched off. Just as it may be helping some of the big servers get rid of players, it is decimating the smaller servers, and ruining communities we are trying to build.
On the plus side, no queue for most maps even during peaks.
WTB a few more WvW guilds to help us out.
Signed : Unity WvW leader (Aurora Glade)
P.S. Why exactly does Anet support the zergs by giving them a 15% buff (3 orbs)
P.P.S Outmanned buff should actually be useful for WvW not for farmers
P.P.P.S Outmanned buff should be based on points accrued and not numbers on map.
On further investigation. It appears to be an issue with Meteor Shower.
If meteor shower is attempted to be cast and immediately you cast another spell, interrupting the meteor shower, it will lock you to your position (which is an expected effect of meteor shower)
However because meteor shower does not execute but the rooting part at the start happens you end up rooted and cast the second spell pressed.
Recasting meteor shower removes the root.
This only occurs very occasionally and not every time. It seems there is a certain period of starting to cast meteor shower that causes this and the system still thinks it is casting meteor shower.
On occassion my elementalist will root himself to the spot. The only way to break this root is via the Burning Retreat skill which rolls them backwards.
1. This only happens when in Fire Attunement
2. This only happens with a Staff equipped
3. This started happening on the second Beta weekend before launch
4. It happens when fighting NPCs or Players
5. Happens on any map and in storyline
6. This is the key bit, it only happens if I map more than one ability to a single button (I can’t figure out which ability it is though or which combination) I do know if you map 5321 as a mouse macro it will occur very regularly. Not my normal mapping but I was trying to work out the way to get it to re-occur as much as possible to help out with a fix.
7. There is no icon indicating my root
8. Burning retreat always fixes it
9. It didnt happen during the earlier beta events (its was I think only the second from last that it started on and I did bug it at the time)
So it seems to be maybe an ability firing and then a second one interrupting it I guess. Number 5 ability on that attunement does root you to the spot whilst casting so maybe its linked to that.
If I resort to pressing the keys for those abilities its not an issue. But thats not ideal as I like use all sorts of weird situational mappings.
