Hi All !
Grand Cross is the main alliance on the Vizunah Square server, rocking the charts since the game release in the European leader. But in this Christmas period, let’s forget the battles, the wars, the trolls, the flames, let’s laugh … a lot !
We started a thread in French with animated gifs and sentences to make fun of some WvW situations. This thread was so awesome I decided to translate it into English to share this with you guys ! As it’s written by VS players some of the stories are very server-centered but I’m pretty sure you have the same stories on your server !
Feel free to register and participate in the thread, the forum welcomes all international visitors we could have !

So all we know today is that we need to take action :
- Could some Language Tags to be removed ? Would Anet be ready to switch for example Vizunah and Elona to Euro servers so they could organize like Desolation and currently Blacktide ?
- Or does that mean the Alliances on these servers will have to move on a mid-tier Euro Server and start re-organize before trying a coming back to T1 ?
- Or, and this is something I can read more and more, Euro alliances should move to US servers, already globalized, we would minimize Oceanic impact and we would have the US guilds fighting at full forces when we leave.
- Pushing this to the end, if all servers are globalized, splitting servers in two ladders wouldn’t make any sense and I guess a merge with US and EU should be considered. The issue then is that you would have the globalized servers, and the others unable to get into a fair fight. Too many servers.
From Anet, it would be appreciated to get some insights about how we could manage such situations. Please tell us if nothing will change before the end of the year, for us it’s critical so we can organize ourselves.
From alliance and community leaders, I’m pretty some very useful talks can happen : we all want the same thing at the end : amazing, thrlling and deadly fights in this virtual game. Maybe we could preserve the Euro rivalry by coordinating transfers if they should happen. But I guess lots of us would be a bit sad to let behind a name we got deeply involved to : Vizunah, Arborea, Elona, Miller’s, Baruch, Riverside or Kodash.
I wish you all happy, exciting fights !
Step 4 : Desolation’s comeback and the dead-end
As other servers before Desolation left the top servers to re-organize before making an impressive comeback. Among the changes, I guess everyone is aware of the arrival of the US guilds and Ruin. I won’t argue about the 24/7 thing and the night capping. Truth it I’m for it, I like it to be international. But as I’ll say later, the question is to know if this time I can adapt. Anyways, when desolation made it to the T1, we knew what to expect : Difficult, very difficult times. Lots of people also didn’t really appreciate what we could at least call some lack of respect to players who are just like anyone else, being Frenchies or from any other nationalities. It was important for us to show that we deserved our rank thanks to our dedication and efforts . So we tried to collaborate with AS to focus Desolation. As stated in the previous paragraph you can guess what happened hehe, when the first little jarring note happened between the two servers, an amazing flaming war started between the two servers (with still the 10-year-of-hate issues to deal with ;-) ) Before the end of the week-end, we were back to square one with the twin brother in hate-mode. Desolation doesn’t have a typical strength like we saw before with the other servers but they have everything balanced which is the key to win the long-run. Last week was an amazing matchup, with desolation getting a difficult start, maybe a bit surprised by a full-tri-faction-war that can harrass you anytime anywhere but they quickly adapted with 2 huge night capping on Monday and Tuesday nights. Vizunah started to react on the next night, limiting the night-capping to only 420 for Deso (635 the night before) and Vizunah never going under +160. Grand Cross then started the “300” Operation to throw everything we had the last two days and this is how we made the difference that allowed us at the end to win the matchup. History is now written: If Desolation crushed everyone on their path, when getting to T1, they didn’t beat Vizunah.
Why something has to change and suggestions
This is where something is broken. The French Canadian thing is mostly a myth. The CaSu guild with 300 people never existed and during the night it’s mostly european players even though we do have a few north-american players, mostly Frenchies living in the US or Canada for a foreign exchange for example and still playing with their French friends and family. Our strength is this amazing dedication from the Grand Cross alliance and the PvP Commanders. The “300” operation is quite clear : Yes we do have people putting their timers at 5am to fight night capping, some Commanders lead their guild and Pick-ups for more than 70H between Thursday and Saturday, others made 12H+ sessions leading guildies and PUs on the TS server used by the whole server. What we did last week made us exhausted. Immediate consequence this week-end : the alliance GC used it for an IRL meetup at the ESWC in Paris and some commanders just switched off the tag to not turn mad.
We know, as american servers did before us, that we need to evolve so we can rely on fresh people for the night if other servers are well-organized with US guilds. But, today, we can’t.
8 or the top 12 Euro servers are tagged with a specific language FR, DE and ES. Basically, this puts us, with the german and spanish servers, in a dead-end. We can’t organize ourselves to have this 24/7 presence :
- Local players (Frenchies, Germans etc.) would be in their right to permanently yell at people using another language like English on the chats. After all, there is a language tag on the server name. And even if local WvW guilds would make great efforts about this, we can’t control PvE and a minority of stupid people we can find everywhere.
- As a US guild, I perfectly understand that they would be afraid to move on French or German servers as they won’t be able to integrate easily, especially without the PvE guest system to keep playing with people from their timezones on the US side.

Hi Folks,
I’m the guild leader of the Ombres de Tierfon (Shadows of Tierfon) based on Vizunah Square [FR]. We are very closed to (but not part of) the Grand Cross alliance which is the most important WvW alliance on the server. We’ve been there since day 1 and had an amazing time. I am one the Vizunah’s WvW Commanders, leading my guildies and pick-ups on various maps but mainly Eternal Battlefields.
As most of the French speaking community, we don’t participate in these forums neither in the French speaking sections as we stick mainly to our own community websites. Nevertheless, I wanted to remind that MMOs are a unique chance to play something great with other players wherever they come from or the language they speak. How lucky are we to be able to play with people from so many places ? cultures, nations and countries ? A lot. I won’t get into the trolling trap, I’ll only make a statement and I’m not expecting to start a debate.
First weeks : Riverside and Far Shiverpeaks
These were with Vizunah the first servers to stay in Euro T1. Not a lot to say about the first games. VS made it mainly because the GC alliance was ready and operational since day one. When the servers started, I personnaly lead a first charge with a “Tierfon Bus”. The other servers needed a few more time to get organized but they were actually only getting better and better. FS made his reputation partly with the russian community like [GF] and [Nug]. As a weakness, I’d say too many of them were badly stuffed, sometimes even naked but what an amazing mindset : Enraged, furious, they never accepted to loose. Please believe me when I say you gained a strong respect among us.
Step 2 – Elona rising
After a few weeks, a first wave of new organizations happend and we saw, both on US and EU servers, huge transfers and new servers making it to the top. When Elona Reach made it to T1, it was definitely the most challenged time we had : we were not ready at all, we had no idea of what was coming to us : Golems, Golems everywhere. To be honest, we were weeks and weeks after the release, we never had to defend against golems. We had a hard time the first week, the time we needed to adapt ourselves. Elona definitely brang the most technical challenge with a strong discipline and amazing support of war machines. You were the first to permanent bombard me on Stonemist from Overlook and I had to learn. We all had to change our daily play to handle deadly assaults. This was achieved by increasing our mobility and trying to keep the fights as much as possible on open playfield. I can only be amazed by how all you guys improved your server and I could only only hope you’ll keep up on this work to make your way back to T1.
Step 3 : ArboreaStone and the love/hate relationship
The other competitive French speaking alliance “Etendard Sanglant” (Bloody Flag) started on Jade Sea and stated since day one they would move to a new French tagged server if Anet would add one. This happenned and so they took a very late start compared to us on Vizunah. But we were expecting them. We wanted them. They brang a complete new kind of challenge : emotions and anger management. The guilds composing alliances on both servers were alreading fighting each other on Dark Age of Camelot 10 years ago. They became like an old couple : They hate each other but as soon as one goes away, the other only begs for a come back. It’s something special to see all these guild tags on the battlefield knowing that you know most of the players behind. You can imagine them laughing at you, ready to troll you on the forums, ready to take some revenge on whatever happened 10 years ago in another game. It’s like family : So much drama but at the end, the same kind. Arborea uses the same playstyle as we do with an amazing multi-map organization, alliance-driven operation. After 209 successful defenses on Stonemist I had to let it go on the first time and AS took it. That was an amazing night fighting AS & Elona at the same time. But I had to put a knee on the floor for the first time. Arborea, like Elona, made an amazing first week thanks to the excitement and the expection to finally beat Vizunah. But the second week is always harder and the global alliance organization makes the difference in the long run and we were able to be back to rank 1.
