The Mentor apple icon and the map icon both disappear after interacting with map elements like vistas and scouts, Mentor mode is still active but must be cycled off/on to get the icons back. Map transitions totally disable mentor mode all together. Personally I’d expect Mentor tags to behave like Commander tags, disappearing only when deactivated by the user.
