Hi I’m pretty new to the game and after leveling an engi to 32 I fell in love with the theif ankitten ow 54 on him. My problem has been finding weapon sets that I like.
I am currently using d/d and s/p.
I really like the daggers auto attack and CnD is quite a cool ability, but backstab damage feels low and the overall dps just feels rather inadequate.
I like s/p a lot due to sword #2 and all the easily available interrupts.
My questions are:
How do you play d/p? I tried it when I first started but didn’t like it. Stealth costs a lot of initiative and again the dps feels low (is it because I’m a lower level?)
Is having short bow necessary or can I get by not using it.
I don’t play pvp a huge amount but am planning on playing more of it and I’m assuming short bow is required for that due to its. utility.
I did not like s/d.. It just felt clunky. I’m planing on trying p/d and p/p as soon as I get the pistols.
Any advice would be great, thanks in advance.
Theives now drop loot bags upon entering stealth.
Now no one can complain about thieves escaping

Alright all I’m fairly new to the game (been about a month of two now) and for some reason I like the crafting :p probably because it’s fairly simple and relaxing to me so I’ve been trying to figure out a way to make some cash off of this hobby. I found gw2spidy and it has been useful as far as information goes but it seems to put things at maximum cost compared to what the lowest is on the tp this putting them up for auction instead of instant cash.
Now I know that the guys who have managed to profit from the system don’t really want to share their secrets but a few tips would be nice (not involving spreadsheets or business majors please)
So when I put something on the tp it seems that if I sell it for lower or = to the lowest price item it just gives me the money upfront. Am I right on assuming this?
Can someone explain the different check boxes? I’m not entirely sure what they mean. Is it just person with most of item on the tp and person with least?
Am I doing the right thing by picking a profitable item with high demand low supply (based off of gw2spidy) and undercutting the highest price by a little and then waiting (so far nothing has been sold :(…) or am I doing something wrong.
Any help would be greatly apriciated.
EDIT: To the OP, I forgot to ask- what kind of playstyle do you prefer? High-speed, or something more relaxed. Frontline or backline? And so on.
Probably should have said that. I really like flexibility, being able to be melee or ranged, tanky or burst. I really don’t like being pinned down into only one viable play style. I like making my own builds even if they don’t make sense or aren’t the most effective. And I also tend to prefer to play more reactively, see what they do and try and counter instead of going to a fight and hitting the same buttons hoping they die.
Thanks for all the replies ! Lots of elementals.
Hello all, just picked up this game and going to start playing tomorrow but can’t decide on which profession to start with. It’s probably going to be between engineer ranger or elemental. I’m planing on doing mostly wvw and don’t really care much about viability. It’s strange for me because I normally play the supports/tanks/healers in these games so it’s exciting to take a damage role.
Anyways as the topic says, convince me as to why I should play your profession ^^
