I’ve only noticed it with Mithril tools.
If you use a mithril gathering axe tool on a Petrified log in Ember Bay you gain ruined ore chunks and unbound magic.
Which shouldn’t be a thing since unbound magic from nodes can only be gathered by unbound gathering tools.
If anyone else can recreate this issue please post/comment as well
