"DragonHunter" name feedback [merged]

Dragonhunter as a specialization just feels wrong, beacuse it is very limiting.
Everyone could decide to specialize his skills to hunt dragon, it is not something Guardian specific.
Elementalists could learn to form elemental lances to shoot dragons and their minions. Bind them with the earth and wind. Freeze them in the sky. Imobilize them and other stuff.

In a world where everyone can is able to do these things a profession going into this specific direction just feels out of place.

The guadian does not have anything that makes them better suited to fight dragons and their minons .
None of their abilities is supperior in taking down any of his supposed targets.
Going again with the elementalist: “i send down hell from above, killed several Mordrem before you even pulled back your bow.”
And I am just talking about the dragonhunter part. The guardian itself has some better stuff, but the dragonhunter in his discription seems to be the hit and run type.
(I am fully aware of his AoE trap capabilites, but then there is premature trapping, which leaves some enemies unsatisfied)

Dragonhunter as a class, faction or title
Dragonhunter could work great for a title or even a faction which emerges in the world.
A title for killing X amount of dragonminions for example.

A group of specialized people who hunt down dragons and their minions. Maybe even a special group within the pact.

A class who is clearly designed around the hunt for dragons and their minions. Think the popular game Monster Hunter . A class which focuses on slow high damaging attacks and wears heavy armor for example. Someone who can take hits and dish out. Who stands in the middle of the dragon infested swarm or the direct attack of an eldar dragon.
From the mainclass they could spezialize in different directions. More tanky with shields, more offensive with greatswords or the possible future spear/lance/Gleve or more tricky with a ranged weapon or some special tools (Bazooka like the Aetherblades, Orbital laser support, etc.).

While the class idea is just something I put up from the top of my head, it would make more sense as a defined class going into a very specialized direction.

However like the revenant, this class would of course have no place in the usual timeline and would just be there “poof”, deal with it.

It’s going to take a rather tortured justification for why my Guardian would become a Dragonhunter and what they’d do once they become one. While I have no problem adapting my Mesmer to the Chronomancer spec because that gives me creative freedom in how I choose to use the new time magic. As far as I know there were no explicit story motivations placed on the Chronomancer?

Nope and that is the beauty of it. Timemagic was always part of the Mesmer (timewarp for example) and it is described as manipulating the mind of the enemy.
For all we know the new chrono magic is still mind manipulation on a higher level and subsequently still part of the Mesmers abilities. Just a mesmer who focuses more on that part.

This post sums up my feelings on the matter perfectly.

Completely Pointless Revamps?

While i’ll admit that many features can be difficult to understand at first and making it easier on new players to understand these features is a good thing, I believe they’re going about it the wrong way. The old leveling system was fine it just needed “a coat of paint” to add better text and tutorials to explain them to the new players. But what does Anet do, they tear down the “house” that is the leveling system and builds a new one instead of fixing whats all ready there.

The changes are unneeded, unwanted, and as a someone who’s being playing since open beta (as well as having played GW1 since it launched) they’re beyond irritating. When Anet made the changes to the trait system (and I felt the the same way then as I do now about these changes) I was willing to give Anet the benefit of the doubt and give time to fix it but know after seeing these changes I’m about ready to give up.

You can do all of the regular pve content with just heroes, henchmen, or a combination of both so in that sense it is soloable. All classes are capable of soloing the game (with heroes and henchmen) but some are better then others and the Dervish (is one of the better classes to solo with) is a very fun class with some very interest skills (the avatar elites are awesome).

Lack of New SKills

I would really like to see new skills added to the game (new weapons for each class would be great as well), in particular new elite skills (some of the existing ones aren’t even all that elite) and underwater skills both of which are sorely needed.

Staffs for rangers?

I’m not sure… It’s kinda odd how all our skills require physical contact/projectile then out of nowhere we start using magic which in my opinion, doesn’t fit well into the theme of rangers

Ranger’s do have nature magic and the staff would fit well with that.

Question to ArenaNet! Rata Sum Weird Law?

Unless they site the name and location of said NPC you can tell them they can go eat their ears and if they do just say you got said permit. All this sound like to me is that someone is upset that you guys are there and they don’t want you to be.

Edit: Peace Keeper Chief Gliptr is most likely said NPC however he says nothing about non Asura needing a permit to be in Rata Sum. If they keep giving you grief just say you have a permit and that should be the end of it.

Can we have acct bound story mode completion?

I support this. I’d also like to see story mode made soloable (I don’t care about loot or any rewards I just want to see the story and its such a pain to find groups for them anymore)

Both of those are excellent. My elementalist Zolka is a member in good standing of the College of Dynamics and one day she will surpass her first advisor, Mistress Zinga.

I tend to look at it as the Norn having a “gear” between a walk and a run that lets them travel long distances without having to stop. That being said I can see how it would irritate some people.

Ya…its called Jogging >.>

Yes jogging… faceplam for not think of that.

The Sylvari have only been around for 24 years or so and none have died of natural causes/old age. So to answer your quest we really don’t know.

Speculation of the Evolution of Sylvari

If so, my money would be on the Forgotten – there is evidence they’ve been in the Maguuma before, and they’re the one species that is known for being able to create things that are immune to dragon corruption.

I think the Druids are a better possible origin for the Sylvari then the Forgotten. We know they’re ancient (at least by human standards seeing as how they were once human) and their ruins/remains are all over Maguuma (you see alot more of them in GW1).

Therein lies the problem. You’ve said that they druids are ancient, but then pointed out that they’re ancient by human standards. Humans are a relatively new race to the continent of Tyria, they are by no means ancient, especially when you compare them to the forgotten.

I don’t see that as a problem. There’s no need for the Sylvari to have been created in the distant past. All we know about their origin is that a solider named Ronan (former Shining Blade I believe) found a seed in a cave that grew in to the pale tree.

Given that to some extent these games are both fantastical and anachronistic, this presence makes sense.

The only thing that bugs me a little bit is how the ‘atheist’ race is also the most militant and hostile race. It’s very likely it would be the opposite.

The Charr are more agnostic or misothiestic than atheistic. I feel that the Charr would admit there are gods/spirits they just don’t care about them.
