I understand there are a lot of tickets to deal with, and at times, support personel are going to give the quickest answer possible. However, I have been patiently surfing the support forums for a week now (waiting for my resolution), and when my happy day finally came to get a response, I got zero help, just a confirmation that my account was in fact banned. I am more depressed than mad, what a waste of time.

There has to be an alternative resolution to a perma ban as your first warning. In a lot of circumstances (like mine) we will never know what actually happened, just the fact that we were banned. I have since secured my account, and would like at least one chance to prove my account is violation proof!

Guild Wars Account hacking more likely internal than "fansites"

The figure in that article says 11,000 accounts, which may sound like a lot, but for an international game that has sold over 2 million units, that is only 0.55% of the userbase (less than 1% if that confused you).

Strikes me as a very small population has problems with hackers (i.e. user error).

There are hundreds of ways your password and login information can become unsecure. Most commonly: there was an illegal keylogger program on a computer that you have used in the past. They are designed to record as many email/password combinations as possible, and then spam them later at various websites hoping for a match. If you have never used that account information on another computer, then I would not only be concerned about the security of my email account, but the security of my computer overall.

I am a perfect example, I used my typical email, and the same password to access my Guild Wars 2 account (I usually do for almost everything, i have a bad memory). Not smart!

If your account was hacked through ArenaNet’s side, they would have a legal obligation to publicly state their systems have been compromised (otherwise you would never hear about that happening to companies).

If what you say is actually true, I would say that a $75 investment is far better than a $60 total loss.

This game is awesome, and is worth the wait you might have to endure in order to get to where your friends are, and when you do, you’re golden! My roommate had this happen to him, took him about 1.5 weeks before he found a window to transfer to his friends.

Done with this hacking bullcrap!

Hey Guild Wars 2 Support Team,

My ticket is 5 days old, so I am hoping I can get some support. I am still unclear as to what happened with my account. I admit that my account was not secure at the time, but now I have updated my account security, and I am the only one with access.

I would really like to get back to participating in the Guild Wars 2 experience without any future violations or account issues!

Innocent or guilty, a week long suspension would make first time offenders a lot more cautious about making mistakes. I wish I would have given my nephew my Diablo 3 account info instead of my GW2, he can get that banned all he wants!

With over 2 million copies sold, I am really happy and surprised we have a head admin responding to our concerns. Hopefully if you are patient, and mature, something can be worked out, but I know it is frustrating, Guild Wars 2 is/was an amazing game.

Have faith in the Guild Wars team!

Same thing happened to me, I let my nephew play a character on my account so that he could see how awesome the game was, next time I logged on I was banned, no way to find out what really happened. Just says for botting or third party.

I would at least say, delete the character that the violation happened on, or at most a lengthy suspension so that customers get the point and won’t violate (or in my case, give out their account information).

I am hoping that if enough people comment on this issue, they will offer us an appeal like they did for the 3000 people banned for buying cheap karma items.
