Hahaha yeah I suppose that’s looking likely.

It just feels like they’ve written themselves into a corner. When Factions came out we were called to Cantha to help with a plague which turned out to be Shiro, so we had to side with a political faction (which meant wiping their noses first) and then hunting him down. Then in Nightfall it turned out to be a a god toying with us all the whole time. It had connections and momentum and people with motivations and agendas.
I loved this about Guild Wars. I could get behind the characters and get involved with the story. Making the main antagonist some faceless unstoppable force of nature makes it very difficult to buy into the story.

Any further content seems likely to be living world content, which is hard to get excited about because it’s in such small chunks that it has no pace (and woe betide anyone who misses a chapter), or “Oh balls, another Dragon has popped up. Of you go and whack it then.” “Right ok” “And then all it’s brothers and sisters.”

I have seen a few topics a little like this but I would like to know people’s opinions on this.

I have currently returned to playing GW2 after a short time of being frankly bored with the content. I was doing exams and had little time to keep up with the updated content and found myself pretty much left behind and had no idea who all these new characters were and why everyone was bashing clockwork things.

I would like to say I love most aspects of GW2, the pvp, the mechanics, the stunning zones and exploration but there is one aspect which I just cannot overlook.

Dragons.

Massive primeval forces of destruction which are nearly invincible. My character simply feels like dragon chow without the power of airships and technology (none of which I had a hand in creating so I’m pretty much a pact puppet.) I can’t help feeling anyone can pull the trigger on a massive space gun and so the skills and gear I have acquired over the story-line are largely irrelevant. Now I know it takes time and effort to get to Zhaitan but I cant help thinking that creating loads of these things means GW2 will now become a Dragon slaying grind.

GW1 had the Charr, Stone Summit, Shining Blade, Undead, White Mantle, Khilbron and loads more all intertwining and with their own agendas in the first story. Then Cantha with its political intrigue and Elona and fighting a god. There was so much variety and depth to the enemies and stories which kept it vibrant and fresh. From an RP perspective I find it hard to swallow that we should walk around Tyria thinking “Oh hey I know there are massive Dragons about to destroy the entire world at any moment but I’m going to have to put that on hold because there are some Charr and Dredge leaving a few scorch marks on the Shiverpeaks.”

I see what the devs are trying to do but I can’t help thinking that they’ve really set out the course of future content and from here it looks like a future littered with minion bashing followed by a dragon fight at least 3 more times.

TL;DR – Anyone else worried that GW2 is going to end up a dragon slaying sim?
