The problem people have here is that guilds have yet to have any guild centered content at all, in a game called Guild Wars. You can get bonuses, gear that show off your guild, talk with your friends, or have a nice bank, but no content geared specifically towards your guild. No Guild vs Guild, nothing literally gated by saying you have to be in a guild together. Guild missions and, of course, their rewards was the first thing we have seen where a guild could make something and do it for the benefit of a guild, in content created specifically guild focused.
Now, I do see a disconnect here. There are large rewards for doing these missions, so ANet gated this towards taking time to unlock the missions themselves. I don’t think this is necessarily the best way of handling this issue.
Consider this option. Instead of having a high barrier of entry for unlocking these events per guild, you could have a low barrier of entry and have high costs for upgrading the guild specific rewards for members. For example, you could make Guild Bounty unlock at a much lower influence cost, then have separate upgrades that add the two rares to the reward. Another upgrade would add the chance of a precursor, at a relatively high cost. In addition, make these costs combinations of both guild merits earned through these events and influence.
How does this change the perception? For large guilds, they unlock all the rewards pretty fast. They can make a lot of the events, have a lot of members getting merits, and have the extra influence to get higher tier rewards. Smaller guilds still take a while to get to the nice rewards, like a chance at a precursor, but what do they get to do now? While working towards it, they are participating in those missions. They are able to participate in content that feels personal to them. I think a structure like this would calm a little of the storm and make people much happier.

Bottom line: We’re not going to give you overt permission or approval to do this. We will not say “Your account will not be terminated if you do this.” Conversely, we will not summarily terminate your account if you do offer this service. But be aware: If you offer this service, you do so — and those who use the service do so — at your/their own risk.Gosh, that all sounds so grouchy and I don’t mean it to be! I can see how the system could work for everyone concerned. I just want to make sure that folks know it can also go south at high velocity.
Thank you very much, this is exactly what I expected to see. I understand the risk on both sides, and that scamming can lead to action against an account. I am not offering it on a bigger basis, just amongst close friends, so we should be able to avoid it. I understand the risk and cautions now.
Thanks Gaile!
How would ArenaNet know what you are accepting money for? They have said many many many times that the vast majority of transactions where gold is sent from one person to another are fine. If you are buying or selling gold from another player using REAL money then you will probably be caught in time, and banned. If what you are doing is legitimate then just do it and enjoy the game and stop worrying.
Yes, this is one concern, but not necessarily what I was worried about.
It is more the collection of wealth for the purpose of controlling or making money off of a market. For example, ten people separately may have difficulty controlling and holding a market on the Trading Post. If, then, they collect their wealth by nine of them investing in the one that has the most knowledge, he now has much more control with his capital. Is this fine?
While I am not too worried and trust Anet, it is more just wanting to make sure before I go really deep in to trading for friends through investment.
Hello!
So first, I will state the question and then the situation. I do not want either my account nor my friend’s banned, so I figured I would ask on here and see if I could get an opinion or answer!
The question: Is the transfer of gold for the purpose of investment an offense? For clarification, is the transfer of money from one account to another, then the repayment on that investment back to the original account allowed?
The situation: I have been practicing and getting fairly good at investing in the Trading Post, making a sizable bit of money from my choices. I talk with my friends about it, talk about how I figure out which items to trade in, etc. One of my friends then asks if I would accept an investment from him, and then I could take a percentage of the profit I make from his investment. Sounds good to me! He earns money, I earn more money and gain more capital, happy times. But…neither of us want to be banned!
Hopefully this is fairly clear. I can clarify more if needed. Thank you!
