Thanks for the opinions everyone. @Triwhirl, I gave mesmer another shot. Had to delete my asura and make a charr mesmer and am enjoying it a lot more now. I can appreciate the animations and armoring/weapons a lot more on a bigger character, perhaps that is why I did not enjoy it before.

Good to hear

I would recommend Tarnished Coast, there are a lot of active players daily running around in PvE, WvW, and team PvP. We are currently tier 2 for WvW and we are also the unofficial role playing server that is dedicated for organizing community based events.

However I am not sure if Tarnished Coast have many Oceanic players, but I guess you will have to just choose what is more important for you.

Which class is best for condition damage?

Hey, I just started playing this game again after a 5 month+ break. I recently convinced my friend to pick it up and I want to start a new character with him. I have always loved condition damage and I am wondering which class is best for condition damage. I mostly play PvE and WvW.

I did some of my own research and I hear necro and engineer are good for condition damage. I like playing somewhat of a supportive role too, so I would like a class that can also help the team out a bit.

Any suggestions are welcome.

If you want a godly condition damage dealer, it is by far Necromancer. Their condition damage is unmatched in comparison to other classes as of right now. Engineers are great at dealing condition damage too and they have the supportive ability that you were looking for. They can drop a lot of combo fields which comes in handy whether it be stealthing allies for a sneaky approach in WvW or a massive heal in a sticky situation.

However, the beauty of the game lies in its ability for you, the player, to build a character in whichever you choose it to. You can build a condition damage focused Warrior or even Elementalist but it would not be as cookie cutter as Necromancer nor Engineer.

Still a fairly new player, I have an engineer I got up to 70 but decided it wasn’t what I wanted in a class. Too much ground targeting and continual spamming of one button took too much away from the game. Sure, kits were fun, but I felt like I was switching to grenade kit to spam “1”, or switch to bomb kit to spam “1” (of course throwing in other skills, but you get the idea).

My main focus is going to be WvW. Roaming will be around 75% of my focus, solo flipping camps etc. but when I do join a zerg, I would like to feel useful.

I really do enjoy Ranger, if it weren’t for the clunky pet mechanics and forums full of negative comments filling me with doubt it would be my #1 choice. I enjoy hitting them from afar with longbow, then leaping in with GS #3 and suddenly enjoying melee combat.

Thief feels weak to me so far. Squishy as to be expected, and not much damage, but that may be lack of traits/gear I have acquired. I don’t like the gimmick of stealth, but thief was the closest thing to Ranger element of ranged/melee swapping so I gave it a chance.

Mesmer.. I really wanted to enjoy Mesmer, but the skills from every set of weapons seem dull and after I got over the fascination of clones the class just seems dry. I only mention it because I only have gotten it to lvl 25 so perhaps I am missing something, but feel free to fill me in.

So basically these are the classes I am stuck between, but essentially it is really just between thief and ranger, unless you can really sell me on mesmer.

I will do my best to sell you on the Mesmer since I am one of them and I am a solo roamer in WvW as well. From what I understand, the profession starts to become fun at around level 50 to 60 because Mesmers are more focused around Traits, the best of which is unlocked at grandmaster unfortunately.

In the early levels, they are extremely squishy compared to other classes and die a lot if not built properly. I would recommend giving it another go and see until the end because Mesmers are well set late game when geared with exotics. They offer a lot in dungeons, PvP, WvW, and not to mention their awesome survivability in boss fights. I would recommend checking out The Ultimate Mesmer Leveling Guide if you wish to level up one until the end. Remember, if you can make it until the very end, you will not regret it.
