So I’ve been having fun in the new Living World update, and since I finished all my Echoes of the Past achievements I decided to partake in some Silverwastes stuff. My question is, when the event “The Breach” occurs, what happens if you kill all five mordrem? Do you just get extra loot? Every time we’ve attempted to get em all, at least one group fails.

Game Crashes when opening the TP

So I’ve heard multiple things of the new TP crashing the game when searching for specific words. However, my game crashes whenever I open the TP at all. So what is going on Anet? Is this happening to others? Is something wrong with my client? I don’t see any other posts on it.

Im pretty sure Backpacks are this game’s primary cosmetic. Unless Anet decides to start making tons and tons of armor sets for different classes, backpacks are their primary cosmetic choice beyond Weapon Skins.

Think about it, Guild Wars prides itself on being a game that doesn’t focus on gear being the main focus, instead your character and how that character looks is. So they get the necessary gear out of the way (capped at Ascended for now) and start focusing on cosmetic skins. Now they do have some armor skins, but the main thing they pump out are back packs and weapon skins. These are the items you will see that can make your character different from others. Like the few people who have the Shattered Wings back piece. These skins most likely won’t be available forever, so getting them gives characters a piece of cosmetic gear that makes their characters unique later on in the game’s life.

I hope they do start making some unique armor sets for each class though. It would be awesome, especially since they had things like that in Guild Wars 1 (I rocked the Primeval Set on my Elementalist and I loved it to death)

Thats the thing with Guild Wars, you’ll most likely not see those skins available again. It makes them exceptionally rare trophies for those who took the time to get them during the time it was available. Guild Wars 1 had LOTS of these, mainly in mini’s.

Probably, but I figured it was better than randomly trying to pick one, so it’s gonna be sort of like a poll. Ill wait til a certain time and see what was picked the most. In the end, Ill probably make all of them eventually.

TL;DR – Pick One

Female Human Elementalist named Hecate
Female Asuran Mesmer named Metis
Female Sylvaran Necromancer named Lilith
——————————————————————————————————————————————————————
So I’ve played Guild Wars 2 on and off for quite a while now, not because the game is bad though. I love this game, and want to play much more of it. However, I’ve basically decided that Warriors in GW2 are terrible. After playing many other MMO’s that used the Tank/DPS/Healer system, I became so used to being able to tank on my warriors and be useful. Now, unless I do WvW, Warrior “Tanking” is kind of bleh. I tried to make a set for pure massive damage and I got annoyed that it’s blatantly difficult to stay close range on my warrior. This annoys me a bit. I got a bit more used to long range warrior combat, but I hate needing to use it to survive on my own. Maybe I’m just bad with Warriors in GW2. I love the ranged classes in GW2 since they all seem fun and new to me.

So while I’m obviously going to keep and use my lvl 80 Warrior who I still love to death, I want to try a new class to make the game new and exciting for me again. However, I’m torn between three choices… My first choice is to make a new Elementalist. My main in GW1 was an Elementalist and I loved the class, even if I was a bit late to get all of the things to make it awesome. If I did this, she would be a Human, like my Warrior since I would still use the same naming scheme. “Hecate Lierech” would be her name (Hecate is the greek goddess of Magic, my Warrior is named Aries, and my old Elementalist was named Hephaestus)

My second choice is a Asuran Mesmer. I picked Asuran since they are all smart little buggers and Mesmers always came off as the smartest class to me (Either that or Engineer, but I don’t like Engineer). If I had to pick a name for her it’d probably be “Metis” based off of Persona 3 FES The Answer, since her orgia mode had butterflies and shizz.

My last choice is a Sylvari Necromancer. I picked this for one reason only. The book Ghosts of Ascalon. I LOVED Killeen and thought it’d be cool to have one as a reminder of her. If I were to name her, it would most likely be “Lilith” because Necromancy. Death and Ice man. Fits well.

But I am indecisive as heck. So I figured, I’d let you guys pick. If you read this far and give an answer, then thank you. If you didn’t read this far but still gave an answer, thank you too, but if you just read it and left, then well, sorry to waste your time.

Are we ever going to see this Fractal? It was offered when the whole Evon Gnashblade and Ellen Kiel thing was going on along with the Thaumanova Reactor Fractal. I believe I saw something saying both would get done, but I haven’t heard anything about it for a while.

Abbadon’s story was my personal favorite from GW and I would love to see the story the Fractal would have offered.

I have been playing Guild Wars 2 for over a year now, and only once have I been in a big structured guild. Honestly, I had the most fun in a guild like that. Sadly, I felt I had to leave due to not being around as often as I felt I should. However, now that I have more time on my hands, I find myself bored. I want to do all this new content and have fun with others, but everything seems either dead, or unorganized.

I won’t claim to be the greatest at WvW, PvE or especially PvP (I downright stink at that), I am friendly and usually try to attempt new stuff and improve as a player. So if any big guilds on Henge of Denravi are recruiting, please feel free to consider me an option! I am also open to any Guilds that don’t mind members from different servers!

Changes to the combat system as a whole

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Trx.5298

Trx.5298

I feel Anet don’t fully understand what the majority of people want for the combat system in GW2. Everywhere on the forums and subforums of other gaming sites that speak of GW2 you see people complaining that Zerker gear is the main style of play. Most characters run the high “risk” builds for maximum damage output because with the current dodge system, defense of any kind is kind of meaningless. Most attacks that kill players one shot them and dodging is superior to defense anyways. This makes most players run only the glass cannon build. That’s not fun to do. Well that’s not true. It’s fun at first, but then becomes really boring really quickly when you either die because a boss can’t be crit making your set worthless (Teq anyone?) or you breeze through everything because it died in 4 seconds or was easy to avoid and died in 10 seconds. Now I’m not going to give multiple ways to fix this because I’m not a developer. I can’t say for certain what changes to the Zerk/Glass Cannon type sets will help or hurt it. What I can say is what would probably make players happier.

Guild Wars 2 loved stressing that it did not have a Tank/Healer/DPS system. It told everyone that each player had self healing, and good dps capabilities along with conditions and boons. So now we have the Control/Support/DPS trinity. However, with the current state of combat, Control and Support are almost non-existent. The thing I believe players would love to see, are builds that are 100% based on Controlling mobs or targets, and Supporting the DPS and Control players. This way, a character could play a beefy character based on controlling the enemy, not letting them move, or making them weaker so that other players don’t get hit for 14k damage from a single spike hit. A supporter could play a somewhat durable character based on either giving the other players helpful buffs while doing damage to the enemy, or could put multiple DoTs on the enemies to help Control characters keep control while giving heals or buffs to other characters as they help DPS.

Sadly this basically sounds like the Tank and Healer type classes, but it’s more so focused on just being help instead of essential. Let’s say the Supporter died, hopefully with the boons active or the debuffs to the enemies that the Supporter gave, the rest of the team could either kill the enemy in question, or survive long enough to risk having a DPS quickly get the supporter back into the action. Same thing with the Control type. If the Controller did his/her job, the enemy should either be stuck, slowed, or Weakened (As in terms of hits do less damage to the players) that the other players can either kill it, or bring the Controller back up.

If you work on this then other armor types besides Zerker will look appealing to try and play. Teams would be more balanced instead of just giant piles of Zerks rushing in like they need blood sacrifices. The game would feel more like a spec based game rather than a Damage is King game.

Just in case it’s tl;dr for anyone. Basically, buff other sets to Zerks level. Make other armor types viable! Make other build sets that arent exactly damage based usable in fights for something other than a human meat shield.

Not even going to deny it, we DESTROYED that fight night, for a few great reasons.
A: WvW is two things, capping/getting points and killing enemies – having those enemies behind our lines was not gonna fly as we were taking camps, and beyond that we were killing the red enemies on our screens, good times.
B: The week has been so sparse with so few enemies coming to fight us, and just poor engagements in general that we were hoping the LEET roamers that inhabit fight night would come out and fight us, rather than fleeing repeatedly when if they had all banded together they would have had at least the same number.
C: Fight club is an exercise of people wasting time in wvw and taking away maximum ppt from the server in general, SPvP is the place to go for 1v1 or small group combat, if you’re in WvW you can expect to be attacked at any time.
D: The whispers I got were great, but I won’t risk an infraction by posting that kind of stuff here.

Had you just made a joking comment like you destroyed our fight club, I might have been ok with it but because there was a serious reason behind that I’m just really saddened. I don’t understand why there are people that seem to play wvw strictly for ppt.

How don’t you understand…? WvW, just like any other aspect of the game, has a competitive nature that some people are drawn too. That’s why the tier system exists. It’s also kinda silly how in a game where the object is to kill the enemy is a war type condition, is busy being buddy buddy with each other. They have other parts of the game for organized group fights, called sPvP. Also, it would be more disrespectful to your little fight club if we destroyed it for nothing but the lolz. At least with reason, it gives some clarification as to WHY we beat all of you down.

You are a complete moron. The only thing that you can ‘beat down’ is anyone’s respect for that kitten guild known as Mend. You and your moronic buddies are nothing more than kittens interrupting an event where people get to test their prowess against each other using REAL GEAR. You make a reference to sPVP as if it is some consolation it is there. Considering you are a complete kittentard, I can understand that you have no clue there is MUCH LESS build diversity there.

Simply put…

You kittening suck.
Mend kittening sucks.
Everyone who interrupted the organized event kittening sucks.

Again, the real test of prowess is in sPvP, cause you may hold these little “events” to test a PvE build, but you can have just as much effectiveness doing that in a PvE area. You are rarely gonna get 1v1’s in a WvW match (as that defeats the purpose of the game entirely). So testing your skills is kinda worthless. More importantly, who cares if you are able to beat someone 1v1? You are just get beaten by a group of people who don’t care. The mentality that should be had, is “if it’s red, it’s dead” cause they are the enemy. And on another note, I find it funny how you have to help get your point across by swearing, it’s really funny seeing all those words turn into kitten.

Still an idiot. You probably plop into a group of 15-30 and mash 1 until your heart is content huh? I encounter at least a dozen 1v1s a day because I roam. In case you haven’t heard, that is a part of WvW too. Oh, and it actually means you use more than 1-3 of your skills. Crazy, I know. In the sense of WvW, you bring absolutely nothing to the table. You are just another placeholder in the zerg. Roamers solo/team camps, defends them solo/team, and keep people from ever reaching them. That seems more valuable to me.

It’s funny how you think you know exactly what we do. Mash 1 all day, sure I do, I don’t use my stuns or my interrupts, or my massive AoE that stuns. No I don’t do that at all, just gonna mash 1 forever. And Roaming can only get so much done, roaming isn’t gonna win the week for anyone. Especially solo roaming. You need bigger groups to help capture bigger objectives, like the keep we seem to love easily taking back. Not to mention, the small groups that get sent to defend camps when needed. It’s not all zerg. Tonight may have been zerg but that is because nothing else was happening all night. And you talk of contributing to the game, you can’t contribute when you are busy “testing” yourself for funzies.

We’re having fun in a game. You are all destroying our fun for ppt reasons. Need more reasons why this sounds pathetic on many levels?

I don’t know, competitive nature is usually killing one person’s fun for the sake of his own fun, and let me tell you, we sure had a LOT of fun. So is your fun more important that mine, or Flappy’s, or anyone elses for that matter? Nope, and neither is ours compared to yours, our version of fun just happened to be victorious.

At the expense of our own fun that was not interfering with yours? There was no reason to run a zerg through that group. They weren’t even flipping camps. Your commander just thinks that in order to prove that his guild is not one collective pile of kitten, needs to run over an organized event that has no ability to fight back in numbers. If fun for you is running zergs through no resistance and bragging about then that is not only stupid but it is also horribly pathetic.

I’ll forgive you for saying it was all the commander’s decision, mainly cause you don’t know. Everyone who killed you all, was asked if they object to doing so, and we all were more than happy to kill you all. Why? Cause that’s the point of the game. And you’re wrong on another point. Your fun does affect ours. By staying in that spot, nothing was happening on the rest of the map, making for a boring night. By killing you all, we actually enjoyed the night. And while bragging may be pathetic, raging and whining and more or less wishing harm to people because of said “Pathetic actions” is just as equally pathetic. And in all honesty, it’s a world filled with people who originally want you dead, you should plan some sort of defense in case things go wrong anyhow.

Why do you play?

I play in spurts. But lately Ive been having a casual mindset with it, and its more enjoyable.

I play to check off boxes, and that is a good and bad thing, get my characters gearset exactly how I want it(done), try new classes and builds, some WvW, some living story…however fluffy I think it is. And when Im bored again, Ill stop logging in and log into another game or go outside.

I like and hate that this game doesnt keep the typical player interested every day for months or years on end like a sub game will. Whether the sub game actually keeps you hooked or if you play out of obligation of your subscription, who knows. But I know that I logged into WoW every day for 6 years and had a blast running the same old dungeons and raiding. I just cant get to that level of committment here, or in any other game and I dont know why.

It’s hard to switch from WoW. As much as people hate to admit it, it’s the most successful MMO and is probably the most fun. Sure it has it’s flaws, but it also has years of fun that people remember. I’m hoping in the end, GW2 continues to grow and get better over the years and give us some really memorable moments.

I am NOT a Hero

Trx.5298

Again kudos for completely focussing on the wrong part of my post. So I will try to simplify it for both of you since you are so stubborn to focus on side issues.

As of level 50 Trahearne is in charge and my character is not the hero. Even if he wasn’t at the final fight itself, the fight against Zhaitan is so non-epic and the instance so boring that it kills any sense of accomplishment. And on top of that the dragon was killed, not with my skills or combat prowess…no, with a stupid cannon.

Say what you will, it’s non epic, non heroic and Trahearne is the main character in the story after level 50 or whenever he comes into play.

It more so seems that you don’t wish to listen… Yes Trehearne is the main character, because he HAS to be. He’s the leader (Why him, who bloody knows, is he a good leader, not even close) You are complaining that the game isn’t all about YOU, the player. And it is because YOU CAN’T BE. It is restrictively impossible in an MMO for the Player to be the main character. They needed to establish one for the story. As for not getting any feeling of Accomplishment when killing Zhaitan… Did you miss all of the parts of the story where you completely fuzzed up his supplies, blinded him, ripped down his ability to eat and then SHOT at him with a cannon (Herp a kitten , you aren’t gonna be able to hit that thing with a sword, and a normal gun wouldn’t do very much most likely. Arrows are even worse than guns!). The accomplishment in killing Zhaitan is from the accomplishment of constantly attacking him indirectly, only to finally end it in a direct assault. It’s pretty kitten sweet if you think about it, and not focus on the fact that you couldn’t whack him yourself. (Although I admit, I would love to smack Zhaitan in the face)

Knowing that you are reduced to a sidek— as Trahearne hits the stage, therefore means that half the story is not “I am a hero” but “I was there when Trahearne saved the world”.

Sorry but they knew this and they spun it the way the needed it for sales.

I hate to break it to you but Trahearne still hasn’t saved the world, claimed credit for anything he’s not due, or even been the most awesome person in the room.

(That’s still Tybalt by the way, who sends his greetings from Southsun Cove where he is drinking from tall glasses with fruit on little sticks in them.)

Orr is . . . not even saved, but the first step is done. We don’t know how long it will take to clean it up or even what’s going to happen now that Zhaitan is finished and the Source is purified.

Now there’s still the issue of the Icebrood, the Branded, the Destroyers and their masters.

World’s not saved yet. Time to get up and get started again, work’s still calling.

Sigh, Zhaitan was killed blah blah blah. Call it what you want. The main story is over and as it stands Trahearne is the main man from the moment he comes in the story pretty much.

Please don’t focus on whether or not it meant saving the world. The hero of the story was Trahearne, not my character. My point was clearly not whether we saved the world or not but the fact that Trahearne is the main character in the second half of the story line. So please respond to that part. If it’s so important to you that the world is actually technically not saved, well fine. You win we didn’t save the world. But feel free to respond to the main point which is that Trahearne is the main character in this story and not the player’s character.

Believe it or not, the reason for this isn’t to backhand every player in the game, its because Lore cannot allow us, the players, to be the Hero. A lot of games like WoW or Guild Wars 2, generally have a funny way of calling you a Hero just to have credit yanked from you by some guy who didn’t do shizz. Although, it is HEAVILY implied that he is perhaps doing said shizz somewhere. For the story of the game to make sense, it needs to have a figure-head to adore and cheer for. Someone for the rest of the NPC world to turn to and say “He’s our Hero who saved us” because it’s literally impossible for us to be recognized. Do you know how many statues they would need to build if we were the Heroes!? Dear gods… So yes, in the beginning of the game you are sorta looked to as a “Hero”. That’s why they give you a fancy shmancy title like Hero of Shaemoor. The most to hope for as to being recognized is to hope that somewhere it says “Trehearne and a group of Heroes brought down Zhaitan”. Honestly, that’s enough credit for most people too.

I think you answered your own question really. Those that complain a lot continue to play because it is free. They come back and complain here because they think they are justified (in some cases they are) and hope to change things.

Also despite all their complaints most of them probably still think it’s a good game. I complain now and then myself lol but for the most part the game is more good than bad experiences imo and only (knock on wood) has room to get better.

I guess, but that isn’t exactly what I meant. I meant what do they like about the game, what is the thing that draws them? They must like something, I mean they keep doing it right? So many people focus on negatives in a game (which isnt always bad. pointing out flaws can help fix bad issues) but never say “Oh I really liked this, I just thought it was awesome.” Because people take the good things for granted usually. I just wanna see what people like in Tyria. My favorite thing has always been the stuff with the Order of Whispers.

I play because I have fun playing.
I love my characters, I get a kick out of running around doing events, helping people, goofing off.

I enjoy my time in game because I spend it the way I want.

If I’m feeling serious I can head to Orr and fight the good fight, or go kill some krait
if I feel social I go hit up a meta event and have a costume brawl,
if I’m feeling melancholy I head to a place like Timberline falls and just wander until I feel like seeing people again.
Feeling adventurous- go spelunking in Dregdehaunt cliffs.

Yesterday I flew my kite in DR and spent the rest of the evening running around Ascalon and getting immersed in the incredible beauty and sadness of that area

I liked your response the best. You are a person I would play with randomly and not feel like I’m playing with someone who is slowly eating their shirt in anger about something. Also, props to you for going spelunking in Dregdehaunt Cliffs. I won’t go back after I completed it. I hate that area so much for personal reasons that aren’t exactly bad. Heheh.

I’m the guy who befriended a lone Charr thought to be worthless, and gave him confidence to help save his fellow man
I’m the guy who defended the Chantry of Secrets from a Risen attack when said lone Charr was forced to give information in death
I’m the man who took back Claw Island, Joined the three Orders together under a common goal, infiltrated a long lost city of the Gods and cut down resources and manpower of an Undead Dragon who has been plaguing Tyria for years now.
And soon, I shall help defeat said Dragon and bring the world a step closer to peace.
And in my down time, I’m a guy who goes around killing wild life because they for some reason have Uncommon Weapons on them… and because it’s fun.

I am a Hero, albeit not the best, nor am I alone, because dozens of other Heroes have arisen as well, fighting the same issues alongside me.

Whenever I come to the forums, mainly the general forums, I always see hate, negativity and downright anger from a lot of people who are playing GW2. It always confused me. If you dislike a game so much that you say things like “This game is horrible for so-so reason” or “This game isn’t good anymore, nothing is fun”, why do you continue to waste your time here? Unlike some other MMO’s, Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have a subscription fee, letting you go away for a while, to let you blow off some steam and wait for things to hopefully improve. Yet most people just stick it out, staying in the same game they just called horrible or not fun.

So please, tell me why you still play this game? What keeps bringing you back to the world of Tyria?

Note: This entire post is genuine and contains no sarcasm to mock forum users, no matter how silly I may think some of them can be.
