Necromancers need the Torch!

Herro,

Did you ever ask yourself why the Necromancer is the pretty much least played profession? There is a reason, not because he is less viable, not because he is less fun, but because he feels inconsistent and unfinished.

There is 3 basic build-families that the Necros of Tyria use, the Zerk DPS Build, the MM Build, and the Condition Build.

We are going to take a look at the offhand weapons in these.
The DPS builds use a Warhorn or a Focus, to help chase people, get more mobility and increase vulnerability stacking.

The MM build uses a Focus or a Dagger, either to help our minions deal more damage and CC the target, or to control conditions easier and apply weakness and blind.

Now the Condition Build uses… a dagger. And that’s about it normally, the dagger provides some bleeding, weakness and a blind + condi transfer.

There has been signs of Necro buffs soon, or, if you wish, further building and completing the class, now the necro was meant to use conditions, be it damaging conditions, or CC ones, yet still there is no Burning available for us!

On top of that, getting Vigor, which is an underrated yet extremely important boon is way too hard for us.

Condition builds need Vigor. You may ask why and I am going to tell you. Wafter applying bleeds, poison and hopefully soon burning as well, we need time for those to deal damage, while we wait and reapply conditions we are vulnerable, extra dodging will surely help the necromancer and he will also feel more mobile and more fun.
Dodging 2 times and proceeding to wait an eternity to dodge again is not fun, Vigor is.

To combine our 2 issues and create a solution i present to you.. the torch!
Ever seen people using that weapon? Probably. Torch naturally applies burning, which is something we need and it may help us get vigor as well!

Now I have seen the suggestion being submitted a couple of months ago but now, I feel like this change has to be made, I even thought about the skills and how to give us the weapon without making the Necro insanely overpowered.

The offhand offers 2 skills, lets split our 2 issues into these.
The 4th skill, an offensive move, the necromancer points the torch towards the enemy making him burn (with fancy green flames) for a couple of seconds (I am not able to tell you how many exactly, it’s a matter of balance and this lies beyond my competence) and after the burning fades away, damage the enemy based on how many boons he currently has on himself. Easy? Yep, and effective, solving our problem of lacking the highest base damage condition in the game.

Now the 5th skill, upon usage, we spread greenish flames on the ground (somewhat like Mesmers torch skill, The Prestige) and grant Vigor to us and our allies and additionally apply a little burning to enemies. Little, since it’s AoE and we want to stay reasonable don’t we.

That’s all I have, I’m open for ideas, all I want is the necromancer to wield a torch and apply bad kitten greenish flames to people and watch them burn. I believe this would make solo PvE and PvP easier. The skills can obviously be changed a lot and still keep their basic ideas and I would be totally fine with that, but fixing such a big issue is extremely important for me personally since I really enjoy the necromancer’s role and playstyle, those are only the 2 things I feel we need most at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback in advance!

You don’t really seem to understand the issue I am adressing here.

When everything I acquire and unlock is soulbound, and will only be available for this very character, making me almost forced to play it to still make use of what I achieved, well then screw it.

I asked people around, searched for those thinking alike, never received negative comment on the suggestion until i decided to post on the forums and on reddit, I guess that’s a mentality thing.

Not everyone has the time to play much, I spend too much time playing already, unlocking and achieving, now if i feel like I really want to play an other class i basically have to do everything I have done again BUT, i won’t be able to obtain temporary stuff.

That’s months of work, an item like this would be rather handy for some of us, who got no time to grind the way up again.

An extra 'cosmetic' slot.

I support this idea!
It would be cool if you could legitimately wear 2 backpieces, one on the left, one on the right or something, not a bad idea.

Hello people!

I have recently stumbled upon an issue that was no biggie in other games, but for GW2 it seems to be one.

Most games, offer an item, to be used and select your class once more.
A Reroll Scroll, a Stone of Rebirth, or known under various other names, this item mostly costs a lot, which would mean, it should be an account bound gem shop only item, and helps players play a different class without leveling and doing all the fun, and non-fun parts of the game again!

I thought, at first, that such an item will be priority to developers looking at how much of the game experience is always bound to a character, be it through dyes, or quests that you have done, unique achievements achieved in an event or unique items that you obtained, all of this, is going to be lost once you start the adventure again with an other character.

While leveling up a new character simply to experience something new IS a great option, therefore I am very grateful for the possibility to acquire additional character slots, that’ s a really good idea, I still do not feel like spending months to get a different class to the state my current is at (and it’s impossible, the unique events, that offered temporary content won’t be accessible on my new toon). All I am asking for, is a simple item, that makes you chose once again, resetting the skillpoints you used for skills, unequipping your gear if you chose a class that wears a different type of it, and makes you experience the world of WvW, Fractals, Dungeons and much more at your current level of gameplay with a different class!

Think of the possibilities, you spent the last months playing your warrior but really like Mesmers? That is no issue, combining the already offered items like the Total Makeover Kit and the Name Change, together with a Rebirth Scroll you would keep all you have, all the glory, BUT you would finally be able to play the Mesmers you adore so much! (you can even make a cute mesmer girl out of your barbaric norn warrior!).

This comes from a player who sadly does not have enough time to play as much as he would like, but I feel like such an item would greatly improve the game, I heard of people quitting the game because of all the work they put into one character and suddenly felt like playing a different class, THIS should not happen, and I do not want this to happen to me either, so if you happen to support this idea, please drop a comment, tell me if you would like such an item implemented and hopefully we will reach the proper people to make use of the ideas we shall collect in this thread and implement an item, that makes the lives of casual players easier.

Thank you in advance!

Tl;dr : Want to chose your class again? A Rebirth Scroll is all you need!

EDIT: A suggestion from a fellow player:
Upon using the item, you are going to be set to lvl1 again.

This way you would have to levelup, all you keep is the soulbound and unique unlocked content, your name and appearance obviously.
