Oceania/Australia servers

Anet however could do with testing their content on variable pings the size of what Australian players are getting though.

While I do agree with this in terms of approaching things like interrupts and precision dodging (from thief and co.) in sPvP, it isn’t necessary to test for ping in relation to PvE content, as tolerances are made for exceptionally bad/poor reaction times for players with decent ping, this creates a relatively generous margin for Oceanic players to play seriously, so that things like open world bosses ( for things like break bars), fractals and raids can be participated in by competent Oceanic players, rather than the vast majority of under competent Oceanic players.

And while I have absolutely no clue what Anet’s testing into cross-server play entails, I’m surprised that in small instance interaction (Where ping matters most, in things like fractals, raids and sPvP matches), the server isn’t hosted locally, with a push and pull mindset in regards to accessing character data. Where data is stored temporarily on the server where the instance is hosted, and that when a character updates their inventory/skills etc. that a push is made to the character server, then the instance pulls into a temporary local cache/buffer for calculations purposes. This means only a very small infrastructure is actually required to host the relatively few instances that are actually in existence at any point in time, and doesn’t require the setup of a different region.

All that would be required is a way for players to define what region they would prefer to connect to. Or another approach like with many FPSs to date, you will, 9 in 10 games, play a local game, but sometimes there just isn’t anyone to play with so you end up in a NA match.

Scarlet Possibly Among The Tengu?

in Lore

Twilight Contingency.4610

So excuse me if I’m extrapolating too much here (I couldn’t get to sleep and decided to play living world 2 again), but there’s something that caught my attention.

When investigating Scarlet’s house in prosperity (Prosperity’s Mystery), when reading Scarlet’s Diary: The first page states “Dear diary. Writing longhand is for the birds.”

This caught me slightly off-guard as I’d never really paid attention to the dialogue windows before, but now thinking about it the “birds” could very, very easily mean the Tengu. The reason I infer this the most is that the Tengu are a race very dedicated to tradition, with Kensho Arrowsoul (Guild Workshop Proprietor) referencing that “The study of pen and ink is as old as the Tengu. My people consider it a sacred and beloved art.”

Immediately I thought of two reasons for Scarlet writing this:
The most obvious is that she is stating (to herself) that she prefers to write shorthand, and just comparing that fact to the Tengu. Upon further thinking, I thought the only way she would bother to reference such a specific thing would be because she either had deep experience with the Tengu from The Dream, or she spent time among them after awakening.

This may, once again, be conjecture, as it is hard to tell how aware other individuals are of this as I don’t recall any other characters ever referencing this off the top of my head. Though if she did experience the Tengu in her dream, why? It seems like an oddly specific event to experience in relation to how closed off from the world they are, and to note down in a personal diary to compare one’s self to.
If she did physically interact with the Tengu at length: Why? What did she accomplish? Was it within the Dominion or just with the few that exist outside?

Now the main reason I’m making this post is because I couldn’t find anything on the wiki relating Scarlet to the Tengu. One of the other reasons is because I’d like to hear what other people think on the topic (sorry for being open ended): Is this just her writing in her diary and nothing beyond it? Or is there a chance she had relations to the Tengu we are yet to/that will we ever hear about?

Bug: Mesmer Well + Quickness

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

When a Mesmer casts a well, and at any point from cast to final pulse (the last effect) gains quickness, the visual effect of the well will appear to speed up, but no actual increased effect is measured. The well will still visually be on the ground for its entire duration regardless, but the hands will turn faster and the audio queue of each pulse will occur in time with the clock hands.

Tested in Special Forces Training Area. Using quickness supplied by both the console and Rune of the Chronomancer. Damage ticks were compared in parallel with fraps, but were extremely similar and could’ve been compared if performed in series.

Issues with character art, weapons, or armor?

Just reporting Asuran tier 1 heavy armor gloves: Galvanic, clip with every single piece of chest armor, due to sever clipping on both the front and minor clipping on the back of the bracer and the arm model of the chest piece, as well as frequent clipping with the underarm of the bracer depending on animation pose. The bracer model even seems to clip with its own hand model. The picture displays a female Asura with the smallest build of approximately 20% height, though most of all but the largest build suffer this clipping when previewing with a total makeover kit.

P.S. This is pretty poor, that its been in the game for so long, and that it doesn’t even fit correctly on its own set’s chest piece or with its self.

Instrument Octave Swap

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Twilight Contingency.4610

So this isn’t really a “Bug,” more a limitation, and not anything majorly important, but considering I spent money on an this I feel like being able to comment and suggest improvements shouldn’t be out of the question.

So I have been playing the harp again recently, and after practicing more I have started to increase the speed at which I play. After this something came to my attention: When swapping to an octave and back; from the lowest or highest octave, if you press the corresponding key to swap back before the octave has actually swapped, it will ignore this input.

A demonstration of the keys required to duplicate such an effect:
(single excerpt from most “Song Of Storms” sheets)

(Lowest octave -> Middle octave -> Lowest octave etc.)) 2 4 0 2 9 2 4 0 2 9
If executed quick enough (Can also be replicated by just swapping between the more outlying of the octaves to the middle octave and back, including higher -> lower -> higher) it will not change to the original octave.

A similar input shifted up an octave has no such problems.
(Middle octave -> Highest octave -> Middle octave etc.) 2 4 0 2 9 2 4 0 2 9

I can only speculate at the cause of such an error, but it seems to be caused by the “Locked” skill which would typically be used to return to the previous octave. As it is pressed before the game has registered the change of octave, the command seems to be ignored as if no key has been pressed.

(I apologise if I missed anything of importance, not used to reporting bugs, and typically just a reader not a writer on the forums, with little attention to what I do post)

Bloody Prince's Outfit Toggle Shoulder Spikes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

A simple and albeit minor request/suggestion: Could the shoulder spikes on the “Bloody Prince’s Outfit” be made toggle-able via shoulder’s visibility (Same way other outfits use head or gloves slot to toggle relative pieces).

I could detail a few redundant and minor reasons why I want this, but at the end of the day it is cosmetic preference, and it is a cosmetic item. I personally feel that it does not suit the rest of the outfit. The the impact of such a change may not necessarily be worth the effort, but as Halloween is approaching, I thought I may as well put it out there.

Suggestion: Cross-Character Instruments

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Twilight Contingency.4610

Twilight Contingency.4610

Suggestion: A feature is introduced to allow for the shared access of musical instruments by any character.

Reasoning: By a feature I am not requesting a bank tab that stores the instrument, but a Hero Menu tab (Similar to pets that it can be accessed through the Hero Menu [H by default]). I feel this is a reasonable request as the existence of the musical instruments is generally cosmetic.aesthetic, and ease-of-access is something I feel is lacking with these toys as other toys (pets) can be actively swapped in and out from any location, and accessed by any number of characters on the account. I also feel that it is reasonable due to the items being ‘Acount bound’ and the transition would be similar to that of town clothing becoming outfits. As an addition I would not frown at the inclusion of the rest of the ‘Toys’ tab (Traveling items, Bobblehead Laboratory etc.) from the in-game store being accessible in this easy access feature.

P.S. My apologies if this has been mentioned/suggested in the past but for the life of me I couldn’t find anything similar to such a post.
