Hmm, there’s two people I can think of: Mordremoth (Be a follower!) and this one. She’s almost like a hardcore Diablo 3 character now. But it could be a lie, maybe now a Revenant. You could also say centaurs, Inquest, Sons/Dottirs of Svanir, Nightmare Court, Ghosts, Flame Rams, Forge Tossers, Training Golems, etc. I guess everyone, in some way.

I shall clarify. Out of 64 character slots, 32 (maybe 33 now I mentioned one) of them are unplayable because each of them have violated the naming policy. Of course they can be used again when a proper rename is made on them. What happened was one particular NPC name was restricted before the Seeds of Truth update. When the Seeds of Truth update kicked in, then 31 were all forbidden.
I would suppose when you see one name, you could go through the whole account and select each and everything while you’re at it. Or the filter happened to actually get a handful of things. I am thinking the first scenario is likely as I do have two variations on a name. But I cannot speak for the magic that happens behind that.
Interestingly enough Made In Tyria was an additional ban for that period, but a recent log in check seems to have lifted the restriction. Clearly someone loves the Plastic Spider’s underbelly.

I am serious when I say that. I would like to question the majority of the names restricted. Yes, there are a few NPCs (I’m sure most would want them dead anyway). Yes, there are things that should not talk, but they could have in avatar form. Yes, there is a “famous” person. Yes, there is a name of another game. The ones I would like to question are lore specific. They include places in the world (past, present, or possibly future), or particular landmarks.
I will not go into the full list unless really needed to, but one name that is part of the unplayable bunch is Tyria. I suppose you could find someone doing ‘/e’ followed with some scammable message like “Tyria needs you to send Mithril Ore because reasons,” though the player would be pretty gullible to believe the word of a location that should not be talking. NPCs, sure, but you must be mad to mail Logan Thackeray Centaur Hooves if you could. On the other hand, place names seem to be a bit less shady, it is not like Rata Sum needs more Symbols of the Inquest out of nowhere. Wouldn’t a report for scamming be enough to change their ways or the ban hammer?
I have looked around the forums to see some players have had to rename their characters, particularly the NPC names. There was a post regarding an NPC and thus a handful of players with GW1 and GW2 NPC names have been restricted. I understand where they could come from, out there to possibly be evil to unfortunate players with tricks and scams (better than Account Closure mails), or would be confuse roleplayers because they are alive again or outside of their normal standing spots (it would not stop the cosplayers). The filter was recently packed with names to forbid names that were not originally thought to be in them (Trivia: Countess Anise was ‘ok’ to use on Beta Weekend takeable, but they restricted her on post launch). Though I would think some of mine should have been a bit obvious. Then again, the naming rules back in GW1 were a bit more relaxed.
I have looked at the Naming Policy and sure enough I definitely hit a few of those. Yet, I see/know a few that still run around free: famous people, server names, zone NPCs or alterations (accents) of restricted names. More intriguing is how it also applies to Display Names. So if I am harboring a lore display name, would that also mean I have to change that? I heard that if it includes your name or email then yes. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-naming-policy/
I would like to ask what would be the reasoning behind these ones. However, I figure I am digging my own Defeated State when I see something like, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/The-Name-of-My-Prized-Guardian-Was-Taken-Away/first#post4025795, or the forum post (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/You-must-rename-your-character/first#post4559026 which I cannot seem to open) that explained why people who used Dunkoro, Vizu, M O X, Xandra, etc. were not allowed. I am asking because who else can say they have half their character slots unplayable? Actually add one more to that list: Beyoncé shouldn’t be playable.
Thanks.
TL:DR – Some of my restricted names include locations and interactable things in game. Any stance on that because I have only been able to find posts with NPC name conflicts?
