I’ve haven’t started any professions yet, I’m thinking of going for huntsman/Leatherworker then? Is this a good combo or does it double up on the same materials? Is cooking useful at all, the food buffs seem pretty cool to be able to cook yourself.

I really enjoy working towards crafting something that looks cool, I also like the whole skin thing as i have an idea of the look for my character.

What are laurels for? I’ve seen some boxes you can buy with some Thief gear in them but not really much else. Should i use them on these Thief treasure chests or whatever they’re called?

I also have a ton of ascalonian tears but haven’t found out what they’re for yet. Each city has skins available with a different look that you can buy for Karma, am i right in thinking this?

The end game idea sounds great for me, as i hated the structure of other MMO’s. However i don’t mind grinding for ages to get a legendary weapon which looks amazing and has higher dps etc

Hi guys,

I’m currently leveling up my Thief which will most likely be my only class due to time constraints. I leveled both a Ranger and it to level 55 ish and have decided to stick with Thief after doing a ton of sPvP.

The one thing i’m still confused with about this game is what i do when i hit 80? My main aims are WvW and sPvP but i’d like to try everything the game has to offer. What this is though, i have no clue. What do people do at end game?

My first plan is to get Dire gear for my P/D WvW build but i have absolutely no idea where to get any of this. Where do i look? Do i farm it or craft it? Where do i find my weapons etc? How long will it take me to get decked out etc

Sorry about the weird questions but i’ve never gotten a class to 80 and i’m kind of confused what level 80’s do apart from PvP.

I’m really stuck between Ranger and thief now. Which is best at end-game dungeons? Which is best at taking camps on their own in WvW? I like to do some late night WvW annoying solo roaming.

Have you done much PvP or WvW since reaching 80 RapThorne?

Another few questions regarding Thief if that’s cool:

1) In theory if Both players have equal skill level can a Thief 1v1 any class or do they have a particular weakness? In my experience in sPvP with them i had a lot of difficulty with engineers which made me switch to P/D for the range benefits. As D/D they absolutely destroyed me in general and there’s always so many Engineers in sPvP.

2) Speak of sPvP is P/D viable at all? I like the kiting style gameplay it offers and it seems to do well against Engineers and warriors ( who i absolutely despise ).

3) Since the last patch i’ve been reading a lot of threads on the Thief forum and everyone is saying Thief is the worst PvP class now since all the nerfs, which kind of puts me off a little. Is this just over-reaction or should i pay some heed to this?

Thanks for the advice. I’ve tried them out in sPvP but it would take a lot of games to work out builds etc before i could tell.

I’m pretty new to the game and have been trying to find the class i want to make my main. The reason i focused on these 3 was because i like light armoured, tricky, elusive, stealthy type classes in these kind of games. High risk/reward is my kind of thing and high skill-cap is a must for me, also a good dueling class is a must.

I also want a class that is good in group PvE, so end game content PvE is of interest to me. Mainly though i’ll be WvW and sPvP. Roaming style in WvW is of most interest to me. I’d I’ve leveled the 3 of them to around 40 ish so far and experimented a bit in sPvP. I don’t want a class who people don’t want in end game dungeons or kick them simply because they are that particular class.

Mesmer seemed a bit clunky to me. I was leveling as GS and S/S as power. Does it improve as you level? Seems very slow currently.

Thief is much faster for killing but seem a bit one-dimensional. Not sure if they get boring fast? I’m D/D currently but have tried P/D also.

Ranger i liked as i’m into bow and arrow classes in general. I know they’ve gotten some buff last patch but i was playing as Longbow/GS before this. I’d stick with ranger immediately if it wasn’t for the pet, i hate depending on AI for some of your dps. I can live with this if it isn’t much of a dependancy.

Anyway guys i’d really like your feedback as i don’t have enough playing time to be able to level all, i can only do class and don’t want to waste time on something i won’t like. So i thought it better to ask people who have been there; done that.

Ah ok. So it seems i’d get more mileage out of a Mesmer. Are the Thief and Ranger much easier to master then?

Thanks for advice guys. So basically this BM/Condi regen build is the only really viable build for spvp ranger? It’s true as LB they lack survivability but if i open on a thief 1st and press 2 they just die in seconds which is kind of funny

Are rangers known to be weak against engineers/warriors/eles, because i just cannot cope with these guys.

Hi all,

I’ve just come back after a very long break and only really played a thief mostly before. I’ve tried out a ranger now and have been doing Spvp with it.

I’m really finding Ranger to be pretty weak at the moment. Warriors and thieves are literally 2-3 shotting me and i can’t out-dps eles or engineers as they out-heal my damage. I’m playing with a LB/ Sword/dagger at the moment and have tried switching out lb for shortbow and s/d for GS but still i’m too squishy. Whenever i get into melee with s/d or gs i just die in seconds, i have less survivabilty than my thief it seems even though i’m using soldier stuff.

Does anyone have a good sPvP build i can use so i can survive a bit longer and actually have fun? Or is it worth my time even leveling this class? I’m not interested in any way in doing a spirit healing spec.
