You seem to forget the language-filter that they added a few days back.

Of course you’re only reading german. Because the client only shows you german. And even if you disabled the filter, it doesn’t quite seem to work in showing you different languages.

So yeah, sorry, but that doesn’t show anything.

[SUGGESTION] Multilanguage chat.

This is hilarious to me. And that some people are actually defending it makes it even more funny.

“Why do you still complain, gawd, you’re so needy.”

We are being thrown onto the same servers so the servers are fuller again. That’s flawed to begin with, but okay.

Next we’re being thrown onto the same servers with people that don’t understand each other. Okay, getting a bit more ridiculous, how about we look into this first…

Solution: Put in a language filter. Are you kidding me? So the solution to being thrown in with people I can’t understand is to make it so they won’t hear me and I won’t hear them unless we all disable the language filter.

So what was the point in the first place? Now there are a bunch of d00ds running about that I can’t even talk to. They are just there, not contributing to anything that could ever amount to something worthy of being called a “community” because they are not even able to SPEAK with each other.

Do you still not see the problem? Do you still not understand how this is so unbelievably bad that it’s only worthy of laughter at this point in time?

Kulvar, please try to keep your arguments coherent. It’s a bit hard to decipher what you actually want to argue.

But, in case I understood you correctly, I’d actually agree to a certain point. The idea, the basic concept of a “Megaserver” isn’t even bad.

It’s just that it’s so horribly implemented. That’s what we’re discussing here. We know the megaserver won’t go away anymore. We just want it to be better than it is currently, because currently, it destroys communitys, playstyles and creates a hostile enviromnent for some people.

I am getting non-offensive posts in this thread infracted, so I hope at least this one will go through:

It makes no sense for Anet to play the unseeing in this case. The megaserver is a complete desaster and the complaints will keep coming. if they won’t get tended to, this game will die – It’s not even a question at that point.

Of course we could debate wether or not a B2P-Game can truely ‘die’ or not but that’s besides the point.

I have seen not a single soul, except the few extreme outliners, that like this change. In fact, most people hate it. And you have to remember this: Very few people visit these forums. Even fewer post in them.

And every single piece of feedback. Every_single_one that I heard from InGame. Be it my guild, my friends or the general chat. Everything was negative and there where a lot of threats of “leaving the game”.

Just answer us for the love of god – make things right.

A french moderator can be qouted saying the following:

“We are working on the language-problem. We don’t know if and when these changes can be implemented.”

See here: https://forum-fr.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/game/Megaserveur-et-de-ses-cons-quences-sujets-fusionn-s/page/2#post205202

So, apparently, they can’t even guarantee to fix something so unbelievably simple.

How are they supposed to fix anything, then? It just proves the “system” to be absolutely random. It doesn’t even seem to have ANY metrics what so ever.

Please don’t resort to just “bumping” this for the sake of bumping. Always fill your posts with legitimate discussion-material and concerns – Anything else would devalue what this thread has already accomplished.

As long as we’re able to keep discussing this, Anet will be forced to answer us one day or another.

I for one still believe that they only made this change to save the money from servers that weren’t used to their full potential due to a lack of players. I just can’t get my head around what prompted them to do this change in such a radical and spontanous fashion.

I honestly can’t come up with a reason as to why nobody from Anet has responded to this thread, after the patch went live.

But if I had to try and find some shred of a reason, I’d have to go with this: They hope, collectivly, that this thread dies soon. The faster the better.

That way, they don’t even have to come and answer us. They won’t have to explain themselves. They can just keep pretending that everything is amazing.

I’m baffled that Dev’s these days don’t seem to understand one really important factor: The short-term costumers won’t bring you kitten. They might bump your playerbase for a few weeks, hell, maybe even 2 months. But what’s after that? The most loyal playerbase any MMORPG can have will be so kittened off that they left the sinking ship a long time ago – just to be mistreated somewhere else, eventually.

But for that – and for the effects of it, it’s only you who is to blame, Anet. But what’s a loyal customer-base when you can have short, easy cash with buzzwords and less actual service. Got dat patchmoney, eh?

We will see how long this can keep going.

It’s actually common practice in community management to isolate and ignore complaints until posters get tired of themselves and give up. Every major fiasco in modern gaming has been handled this way (a certain city-builder, a sci-fi high fantasy game, and an ancient history battle simulator all come to mind), and since it works, I don’t see the practice changing.

If you don’t acknowledge a problem, it doesn’t exist.

It’s shocking that I know every single game you just mentioned. And it’s even more shocking that you’re absolutely correct.

We all still have a real affection for this game, else we wouldn’t even bother trying to safe what we love to do in it.

It’s just really heartbreaking to be ignored like this. And if it keeps going, I foresee a lot of people just flat out leaving.

This from the GW2 facebook……

“Greetings!

We want to give you an update on our rollout of the megaserver technology. It is progressing nicely, and we have turned it on on the following maps:

• The Grove
• Heart of the Mist
• Black Citadel
• Timberline Falls
• Southsun Cove
• Rata Sum
• Straits of Devastation
• Fields of Ruin
• Brisban Wildlands
• Hoelbrak
• Iron Marches
• Blazeridge Steppes
• Dredgehaunt Cliffs

As a reminder – once we turn megaserver on for a specific map, you will not be automatically placed in the new map. You have to leave the map and enter it again. You will also not be able to join your friends until they do the same.

We are continuously monitoring the process and will continue rolling the tech out to more maps based on that. Have fun playing!"

Not sure how much what they say helps or clears up anything. BUt that final sentence seems more like some form of Orwellian order than an encouragement. That or I expected a small voice straight after saying “please!”

The fact that it is “progressing nicely” seems to say it all in terms of what they think of our concerns and feedback here.

Crazy when you think about it.

You know, I’m prone to a bit of overreacting when it comes to my favorite hobby. But now I’m certain:

They actually, honestly and proudly: Ignore us. They don’t care one single bit.

Dear ArenaNet,

Thank you for making Guild Wars 2. It has been a source of enjoyment to many, many people.

I am deeply concerned with the diminished roleplay aspects that this update has brought to the game.

As suggested before, please give us a roleplay checkbox somewhere and consider it when balancing us.

It seems to fix so much:

  • People who want to RP, and who want to see others doing so, get balanced to places where other people have opted for the same thing.
  • People who don’t roleplay, but who enjoy reading it, also tick the checkbox to be balanced accordingly.
  • People who hate it and don’t want to see it simply don’t opt in.
  • People who don’t care simply don’t opt in.

Roleplay is the only reason I picked Tarnished Coast when I first started playing. Before I ever bought the game, I did research to see where the roleplayers were. I saw that my best luck was on Tarnished Coast, so that’s where I signed up.

Me picking Tarnished Coast was me clicking the Roleplay checkbox. Okay?

That was me opting in.

Please don’t take this away from me.

Please tell me you understand this complaint.

Easily one of the best replies in this thread so far. Kudos.

Star Ace, there is a difference between criticism and “hating on the dev”. The Dev can’t know you don’t like something unless you tell him that you don’t like it.

We’re telling them that we hate this change. Literally hate it. You can’t tell us what we can and can’t do with our voices. It’s great for you, that you like the change. You’re free to open a thread about just how great that change was for you as an RP’er, but just as free are we to talk about this Megaserver-stuff being a kitten disaster.

Besides, for you to experience RP, you where always free to gues onto an unofficial RP-Server, or even transfer there. We DON’T have a choice at ALL! NONE!

We were forced into this change, you CHOSE to roll on a Server that’s not part of the RP-Community. You CHOSE not to guest. You CHOSE not to transfer.

We don’t have that luxury.

It may as well could, but it would lead to a whole slew of other problems, such as open-rp being hard to find. And even then, what would stop people from switching to the RP-Chat to troll there? It’s just kinda useless. We don’t need more segregation.

It wouldn’t solve anything because you’re still not playing with the people you want to play with. Is this really that hard to understand? Roleplay needs Roleplayers to happen – If Roleplayers can’t meet Roleplayers they can’t roleplay. Other Chats are completely uninteresting – Nobody’s asking for that, because it doesn’t make sense context-wise.

People complaining about empty cities where miniscule. I can’t even remember complaints about that, so I’m just going of your word here. And even if that where the case – who are the sort of people that would complain about that? PvPers? Most likely not, they are out there doing PvP. PvErs? Maybe, when they’re not out doing Events, Instances or World Bosses.

But is it actually gamebreaking for them? No. It isn’t. It’s not even an inconvinience. But at the same time, it completely destroys one perticular style of play.

Do you still not see the problem and why your “solution” means nothing to this problem?

It wouldn’t solve anything. They also wouldn’t have to enforce any set of new rules. Please just read what the people in this thread actually want, man.

The only thing that they’d need to do is keep the megaserver away from the big cities. That’s it. Nobody is asking for special treatment, own servers or rules.

This just screams not only ignorance but also pure undignified arrogance, to me.

The RP-Community has been so nice about you destroying their community it’s actually hilarious to me that you just went around and gave them the finger, right in their collective faces as they looked upon you in awe.

You didn’t even have to implement a tagging system, like they wanted – So your crazy flawed system could at least try to group them together. All you had to do is leave the big citys alone.

That’s literally all you had to do. But nope, screw that noise, let’s just go balls deep. I seriously hope the RP’ers are giving you the finger in return and take their money elsewhere.

This whole scene, from start to finish, is a disgrace.
