If you want good instances, play DDO. There is no game that offers similar fun in instances. The prequests for the red dragon raid are still my favourite computer game experiences I ever had.
Hard quests are not about heavy hitting mobs with huge amounts of hit points. They are about puzzles, cool areas secret doors, levers – stuff like that. GW2 has this when you explore the map. This is IMO the strength of this game. Just running around, looking at the great scenery and experiencing what’s going on there.
But instances? Uh… well, what I have seen looks very cool. And it is doable. But it is not really cool.
Unfortunately, we’ve been unable to reproduce this on our end. If you could provide additional details, such as whether you were doing this solo or as a group, what your profession was, and any other details that you took before getting stuck, we’d appreciate it! A screenshot is always a plus as well. Thanks for the reports!
It seems that there are multiple issues with events which trigger other events. Sometimes NPCs just get stuck without triggering, (maybe because something says it can’t be triggered because it was just triggered before – I don’t know how you do it so I can just make wild guesses, I was just annoyed by the mess of the Kennelmaster quest in the Iron Marches where all dogs barked at nothing and then for some suddenly something triggered after several minutes…)
IMO you need a timeout for each event. If it isn’t over after x seconds it should reset. Something like that. This reset may not be very beatiful (NPCs beaming around, don’t know) but it would really help.
It gives a reason for the players to accomplish whatever task is necessary to get a piece of gear with the look they want.
While I am totally against grinding – especially for aesthetics – the problem is that the current system does not work for anybody…
If you’re in the “I want to earn my good looks” department, you get the best looking armor as story quest reward before level 20. So no accomplishment there.
If you’re in the “I want to craft cool stuff” department, you’re completely lost, at least until you reach max level.
When I read the title of your topic I thought… well here is someone who thinks he got it, don’t know if I will agree…
I read your post und must say… you got it.
The worst thing I think that currently – at least with tailor – the stuff you can craft looks worse and worse to me. The silk light armor is one of the most rediculous stuff I have ever seen in an MMO. It almost felt as if someone wanted to nag me because I where so crazy investing so much time in a computer game…
Well diversity in armor is generally far to low for my tastes. It’s sad since NC soft is involved in this game… they did City of Heroes after all. I don’t like most of the armors, and it would be great if the few I find interesting would be more customizable. (different textures, details, stuff like that)
Maybe they could allow us to vote for the armor styles we like the most, and then create more variants of that armors. Since I have the impression most chars run around in transmuted lower tier armor than in the stuff you get later.
Or they should just gather statistics what people wear (by the looks).
I almost gave up on crafting after I figured out how crappy the stuff looks I made (especially since the higher tier stuff looks worse to me than the stuff I crafted before). Fortunately there are transmutation stones.
