After reading a topic about making Guild Wars 2 subscription based, I was just appalled by the blatant idiocy. Listen, ArenaNet has a great system in place for them to earn money. Let me explain, because here is what I have observed:
You know that drinking achievement? The one where you have to drink 10,000 Wintersday drinks that you gain from Wintersday Gifts? Well, have you ever thought that ArenaNet was thinking that players would spend their hard-earned cash to purchase gems, to exchange the gems for gold, to then purchase the drinks from the players who are selling the drinks on the trading post, in which the players who exchanged the gems for the gold to then purchase and consume for their own reasons and endeavors. Its actually a very well thought out strategy.
Furthermore, have you ever thought about the reason to why Guild Wars 2 is so grindy? Well from what I can point out, Guild Wars 2 uses a system of paying to receive faster. Don’t want to grind for the Legendary weapons? Just purchase it straight from the trading post. Don’t feel like farming for mats? Just purchase them off the trading post. Don’t feel like opening black lion chests to earn scraps for tickets to then have access to better aesthetic skins for pleasure reasons? Just purchase the skins straight from the trading post.
Now granted, you will have to still do some type of work, especially for ascended equipment, in which I still do not have. However, at least from what I can tell, you can easily gain a great amount of gold, that will infinitely make your Guild Wars 2 experience better, by just spending some cash for gems and exchanging them for gold.
I don’t see why random players have to suggest a subscription-based service, when there is already a system in place that works in the favor of the developers of Guild Wars 2.
If anyone has a statement or something to point out, please say it. I am always open to debate and I love to learn more to why I am wrong. I am currently posting arguments on my website and would love to see other well-thought out claims or statements.

Nice! I could only hit 14 :/
10,000 drinks. WTF were they thinking. I get that time is the only real currency game designers have to make something “special”, but com’on. Now it’s not even grinding, it’s just not fun. Happy Holidays….
I agree. That amount is way too high. I love grinding, but I do not like wasting my time. As an achiever, it seems worth it, but time-wise, it is not.
