I had a bit of a giggle with the official anet’s thief patch note “Stealth no longer ends when you attack” as this is how it already works in live — stealth only ends when you deal damage, making those backstabs futile to block/dodge. I generally liked the self-awareness of them though

Elementalist needs a reduction in survivability.
Suggestion: Reduce the overall Regeneration and Protection Uptime. I’d touch ‘Elemental Attunement’; reducing Regeneration and Protection to 3 seconds base. Regeneration from ‘Soothing Disruption’ to 4 seconds base and Protection from ‘Armor of Earth’ to 4 Seconds base.

Internal cooldown on ‘Cleansing Water’ would help a great deal as well, not really affecting the less spam-heavy staff eles that tend to run ether renewal as much as the healing sig running spammy DD eles.

Engineer Damage + Group Support.
How about: Reduce Base Damage from ‘Grenade Barrage’, ‘Shrapnel Grenade’ and ‘Freeze Grenade’ by 10%. Reduce Poison Cloud Duration from Poison Grenade from 5 to 2 seconds.
Reduce Radius from ‘Healing Turret’ from 480 to 180.

No nerf to incendiary powder and an added cooldown indicator on buffbar, or telegraph to healing turret & increased CD because it heals so much compared to other healing skills?

And if you want a true balance, then please nerf air/fire, too. You all complain about passives from cele classes but those sigils are major bs, too. Fighting a thief can result in highest damage being taken from just sigils. That’s ok with you all? And speaking of which intelligence and doom could use some nerf, too.

The biggest issue with air+fire are the low cd’s and that it’s impossible to see them coming. If this game had a proper UI elements to indicate what the enemy is running and whether it’s off CD or not it wouldn’t be as big of a deal IMO

I don’t think intelligence is as much of an issue as some of the absurdly bloated damage numbers skills have in this game (read: eviscerate) that break any cooldown:difficulty:damage ratios that can ensure that no skill gets way out of line.

Don’t try to shill with your ‘there can’t be perfect balance’ garbage you kitten.

So I’m a ‘kitten’ for trying to promote the positive side of the update. Right.

I did edit that out, it was uncalled and I apologize, I get really aggravated when professional game developers make so awful decisions and people praise them for it. There’s no ‘positive side’ to this update other than what you have fabricated in your mind though. I can’t fathom what is your rational behind such point of view anyhow, what does it benefit you that we get miniscule balance tweaks that don’t fix any of the issues with several months of downtime in-between?

If minor tweaks like this rolled in weekly or bi-weekly and the bigger changes and overhauls came with the current patch-schedule I would see where you are coming from but the current way this game handles balance is just a joke.

As a cele ele I think sigil of battle nerf is good, and might stack reduction was also good. Now eles will not be called OP due to their might stacking nature.

The issue never really was just the might stacks. The nerfs they give to drake’s breath was far more substantial than the might nerf and even that’s missing the point what makes DD cele ele so good.

The ultimate strength of DD ele is that it’s a jack of all trades, master of all. You got infinite boon spam to the point where nobody can rip all of it, you got condi pressure, you got burst damage, you got extremely high mobility, you got insane healing, excellent support, you got CC spam, you got lots of ways to void burst, you are slippery as all hell and you have no downtime.

The only thing that cele DD ele struggles against is hard CC chains like fearmancer or hambow and even then they got no chance of actually killing you 1v1 because they don’t have a fraction of the mobility you do.

This nerf didn’t do much other than shave a few percents off the condi pressure and even less off of the power damage, thus addressing none of the core design flaws of ‘jack of all trades’ build

You know, you could think about all the things that DID get done and not the things that DIDN’T get done since it’s impossible to have true perfect balance in any game.

They took 5 months to make practically non-existent changes that anyone with more than 100 hours in sPvP could have made in about 30 minutes. It’s garbage and they aren’t even trying.

Don’t try to shill with your ‘there can’t be perfect balance’ garbage. Good balance = changing balance where a site like metabattle only acts as recommendation not the end single best build for any given time. What’s your incentive to defend the cancer that’s been killing the game since the release (slow and misguided balance patching)? What’s in it for you to have this game die a slow and painful death?

F2P that is designed for the whales is bad because it results in the free players leaving due to the whales being far, far superior in in-game power and thus screw up PvP combat. This clearly does not apply to GW2 because there is no power sold in the Gem Store.

That’s not the whole point, that is just an example of a poor business model they gave. In an MMO continuous post-launch developement is an extremely important aspect of keeping people playing. Arenanet is focusing a vast majority of their efforts in keeping whales playing with gemstore stuff and new players coming in with marketing. They have no interest in keeping long-term players that might spend just 10 bucks every few months playing because the game is absolutely devoid of new endgame content ever since fractals got released, there’s no reason for a player that only buys a new skin every few months to keep playing the game after he or she has done everything. If they are really working towards a fun and challenging gameplay experience for everyone involved, they would be catering to people that actually want to play the game too, not just new players and casual players with a lot of extra cash.

Veteran players keep leaving because there’s nothing more to play. The only updates that have even remotely new gameplay are the story updates that pose absolutely no challenge and are just there to drive the story forward. You can’t even kill yourself in the story by jumping off a cliff, that’s how easy and casual-friendly that is. I got no objections in casual friendly stuff, keeping the story accessible is just fine, forgetting everyone else is not fine. Anyone that’s not part of their small little demographic of casual gamer with a lot of spare income is not getting any attention from the devs and this is driving the non-whale part of the playerbase away slowly. They are dependent on keeping new players coming in order for this game not to turn into a ghost-town for the whales, this is already happening however tinfoil-hat-apocalypse it might sound — just like described in the video

Personally I don’t see anything wrong with content being introduced via a story. Putting writing quality discussion aside (no more infraction points please), we aren’t getting much gameplay with it. There’s no real reason not to tie the story into already existing methods of storytelling like dungeon story modes while also providing a new set of dungeon armor, weapons and some more difficult explorable dungeons for those interested in endgame stuff. The way the content is delivered now is dialogue boxes, gemstore armor and nothing in terms of gameplay. I’d gladly wait a month or two for stuff like this instead of getting disappointed every two weeks.

What we are getting now:
-Story updates frequently
-Gem store items frequently
-Feature packs infrequently
-Balance patches very infrequently
-Content patches never

While the video is about f2p games GW2 is very much alike f2p games due to how the long-term business model is constructed. GW2 is very clearly catering to new players and ‘whales’ and not much to anyone else. All the armor skins since launch (except ascended) and most of the weapon skins are gemstore exclusive. Gemstore stuff is pretty much all the content we are getting these days and it’s hurting the game. Veteran players quitting because there’s no reason to stay, majority of the updates are catered to new players and players with lots of extra money to put on the game every month.

Just watch the video and you can see how it applies to this game and how harmful it is. Sure GW2 is not nearly the worst offender in this regard but its still more predatory of your money that many actually f2p games are. A person who bought this game after fractals were released has barely gotten any worth of their money in post-purchase development unless they particularly enjoy the living story which I find very sad. GW2 was supposed to be the MMORPG that proves that you don’t need a subscription-model to provide quality content…

Don’t know if I’d call pistol whip OP but it sure as hell is terrible game design

I main thief but I never use s/p. Why? Because it’s extremely boring and one dimensional. There is no satisfaction to be had in pressing 3 over and over again and there’s no satisfaction to be had in playing against it either, even less so

I really recommend you watch this video devs, it only takes 5 minutes and honestly it can save the PvP in this game if you embrace it

State of sPvP now?

There is such a little amount of people playing this game now that introducing new game modes would make this game look truly dead.

I see what you mean, splitting the PvP community into two would make the game more dead but then again, there are a massive amount of people out there who don’t play PvP just because it’s control point focused and not PvP focused. A 2v2 or 3v3 arena mode would not take away the players who actually enjoy the control point mode but it would grant the players who want PvP for the PvP a place to finally have a good time. Needs of the few are now outweighing the needs of the rest, granted that we don’t know how much people those ‘rest’ are

Those people obviously don’t know the cost of making those updates go live – costs that include server costs, dev payments

Devs get a monthly paycheck and so do the server providers. Neither get paid patch-by-patch basis as far as I know, I don’t think there is a single developer out there that would do that kinda thing

Ask yourself how much you spent this week on gems and if the answer is 0 (like for me), congratulations, you contributed nothing towards a better PvP

But there is a good reason for this. Why would someone pay something for a product that they don’t like? Not many people buy gems just to hope this game will get better some day, no, they buy gems because they like the game as it is. If the gems stop selling enough they know they messed up and hopefully it’s not too late to change the direction this game is heading at that point (which is PvE orientated temporary content)
