I work at Google. The tech is there. Someone just needs to build the game. The biggest problem I see is that there wouldn’t be a huge demand. Yes it sounds cool but in practice not many people would play it. You’d need to get a big group together on a regular basis. Also battery life. All that image processing would ready up the battery in no time. Plus the glass sits in the wrong position for augmented reality. It’s meant to not obstruct your vision. You have to look up and to the side. For a game like this you’d want at least one eye fully covered. That being said, I think augmented reality games are not far off. Every year computers get smaller and faster. I’d give it a few years before someone pulls it off really well.

Yes I understand that the original first gen google glass would not be suitable for this but a cheaper design that could also implement augmented reality that is pushed from the cloud to save gpu/cpu power would I think be very popular pretty fast as it merges the online community with the offline community where people live.

Kids that paint graffiti on the walls in their neighborhood can instead with the proper tools design their own levels and get appreciation for their art in a new way. For example using a 3d pen (or one on every finger) that interacts with the google glass to draw 3d objects in augmented reality to place them around the neighborhood like npc’s or boxes that need to be hit to release xp/loot.

I honestly think it would be interesting for Google/Arenanet to look at this path in cooperation with for example the guild wars team to be the first to bring this to the people. I have a lot more ideas to bring to the table, if more people think the same we can possibly create a world map in guild wars that is actually the world.

And for the people that think this is way in the future, don’t be fooled we will be immersed in augmented reality/VI pretty soon as computation develops exponentially.

Okay so, I got this idea and to illustrate let me paint you a picture.

You put on your google glass, start up the guild wars app, select a character and just walk outside your house. The environment of your neighborhood is virtually augmented in a guild wars like environment and you run off to do quests and trains with your neighbor friends and family.

The level designs in every neighborhood can be custom as designers in the local neighborhood basically design the levels. So this creates a direct link between artists and players and working together the designs can probably be amazing.

Think for example of a local playground being a dungeon area where the rewards are bitcoins/gold like system where children can exchange them irl for things like candy or a sword that has sensors and gets detected when attacking a mob. I bet all that dodging irl will burn quite a bit of calories so it would also be very effective for exercise.

And I honestly think is the pvp aspect would be fun too. A neighborhood of players against another neighborhood, each holding a weapon that has sensors that the glass can detect. A girl running away shooting imaginary fireballs while her friends is dodging the balls and trying to close the distance to do a backstab. while 5 others charge to attack the rest, virtual blood shall be spilled!

I would love to see something like this get off the ground, what do you guys think?
