Enemies:
What was good:
- I really enjoyed the heavy damage from the new enemies, cause they brought back the fear of dying, on the other hand they would die extreme fast so it was a good mix up between dealing and receiving damage
What was not so good/ what was maybe bugged?:
- in my opinion smokescales were a little bit too powerful due to their long invincibility
Bonus facts:
- there are some dolyaks on this map (you find them only by breaking out of the map)
Events:
What was good:
- Some fights with huge enemies right at the beginning
- long event chains to let every player experience some events
What was not so good/ what was maybe bugged?:
- the event in the north with the hyleks and some events in the south west corner were always bugged which was really unfortunate cause they made playing the activities impossible (this was the only huge bug in this beta in my opinion), maybe the activities should not be connected to events
Bonus Facts:
-all the events worked at the first time on Friday, after that they were always bugged
Activities:
What was good:
- the activities were a ton of fun, specially the one with the flamethrower
- leaderboards worked very well and give you this extra challenge
What was not so good/ what was maybe bugged?:
- as mentioned above the hylek event was always bugged (except for the first time) so i could play this activity once and without the mushroom upgrade and the second glider upgrade i was not good enough to get silver or gold at this point (missing 2 mastery points there)
- if reaching gold should not be too hard then collecting those 30 pieces in the south west activity was very good cause the challenge focus was on beating the time of other players, otherwise maybe a little bit too easy with larger groups
- the flamethrower activity was in my opinion a little bit too hard for reaching gold, i think in the leaderboard only three people were able to reach 139 or even all 140 (my best was 131 after a lot of tries)
Map:
What was good:
- basically you could glide everywhere with your glider, even outside of the current beta map everything was solid so me and my friends had a lot of fun out there (some interesting screenshots as attachments)
Final Thoughts
I am really looking forward to play HoT this year and it may be look like i had a lot of bad things to say, but this were (except for the bugged events/activities) just little things here and there. Overall this was a great first beta weekend, at least for me .
Hi everyone,
I just want to share some experience i made during this beta weekend and maybe there is something you missed, so maybe you want to try it in the next one.
First of all I had a lot of fun exploring parts of Verdant Brink and fight all the new enemy types and in my opinion it was a great beta weekend. Of course the event system had a lot of problems, but in my opinion this is the reason why you make a beta.
Now I will talk about the different parts of the beta (most of the time compared to the first closed beta i played).
The mastery system:
In general:
What was good:
- the first time i played HoT was in the first closed beta where you just used the points to unlock everything immediately which was very good, but i am glad that you changed it so that the players could get an idea about how fast it will be in HoT to unlock everything
- let us run into frustration with the mastery point right next to the first waypoint cause everyone just smashed his head under it into the wall cause the glider was not good enough, this showed us how important those upgrades in the mastery system are,
btw you needed the third upgrade for the glider to reach it without using a bugg
What was not so good/ what was maybe bugged?:
- as i mentioned above, you were able to get this one by standing under it, jumping and pressing the interact button on your keyboard at the same time which i think is a bugg
- when you leveled every mastery up to the next upgrade and had enough points to unlock some of them, you got an annotation every five seconds that some of your masteries are ready to get unlocked which was really annoying (also you were not able to switch through the different masteries anymore but the result would have been the same anyway)
- maybe that is just me but i am sure that the mastery point on the vine was not shown on the map
Gliding:
What was good:
- the glider opened immediately after the jump and there were some changes in the mastery track which was in my opinion the best change of the beta! (in my opinion the glider was really bad in the closed beta)
- doubling the experience for each unlockable is not so bad that you will need weeks to unlock them but slow enough to get you the feeling that you achieved something in the end (experience needed for tier 4 gliding is shown in the screenshot)
What was not so good/ what was maybe bugged?:
- after unlocking the third part, when you hold w and jump of a cliff and start to glide, you have to let go of w end press it again to glide faster, i think holding w and being faster from the beginning would be better
Itzel:
What was good:
- the mushrooms were placed very well around the map, especially in the north
- unfortunate i was unable to use the speed mushrooms because i was missing some mastery points (i will talk about that later), but to see them on the map and let players experience them was a great idea
- some copper ship parts for question marks at the vendor was a very good offer (screenshot with exact numbers as an attachment)
What was not so good/ what was maybe bugged?:
- sometimes you had to stand in a specific spot to use them or you would fall to your death without a chance to open your glider
Nuhoch:
What was not so good/ what was maybe bugged?:
- unfortunately i used one mastery point to harvest some special mushrooms but i was getting just more question marks out of them so this mastery was not very useful in this beta, maybe letting us know what new item it is would have been a good idea or just disabling this mastery track
Exalted:
What was not so good/ what was maybe bugged?:
- i just leveled the first part but did not use a mastery point cause this whole mastery does nothing in this beta as far as i know, again: would have been better to disable this mastery track
Bonus facts:
- there were a total of 11 mastery points available in this beta, one only obtainable with a map breakout (or maybe with speed mushroom?) (i was missing 3 due to activities)
- you were able to level both pact tyria masteries (legendary and fractals) with repeating the silver waste story instance over and over again, but without the tyria master points it was useless (did it anyway)
With 5 Revenants and his ‘banish enchantment’ skill, we were able to deal more than 100 stacks of confusion, but after 99 it just appeared an exclamation mark.
Happy Birthday
Thank you for an awesome game and the last two years.
We still have lots of fun!
We killed the Wurm on Desolation and moved on to an Overflow in LA with 150 people on Teamspeak from many different servers.
I think we will not try it again cause it is still bugged. Anet fix it please.
I think there are enough Screens so I do not have to post a link, too.
Arenanet i want my achievement, the fight was really hard and i was there too
