"I'd really like this..." [Gifting Strangers]

EDIT: A very kind person just granted my wish, I’m thrilled! ;u; <3

Hello all! Well, having just returned to the game after a very long hiatus, I find myself falling in love with GW2 all over again.

When I started playing on the day of release I rolled a ranger, and they’re still my favourite class. I love taming pets! I started a brand new one since I wanted to come back to the game fresh, and one of my biggest regrets was always the exclusive ranger pets that I knew I’d never be able to get. It’s been 4 years and I’m still pining after them now. The black moa was my favourite, I love birds so much, and so does my character.

This is probably a long shot, but I would be so thrilled to have the Mini Black Moa so my new ranger can run around in the world with it at his side. I didn’t even know there was a mini version of it until recently, but as a newbie I definitely do not have any gold to purchase one at the moment. It may not be quite the same as having the tamed pet, but it would sure make me smile. <3

Returning player! Feeling a bit overwhelmed

That’s good to hear then, I have no intention of using a boost right now since I want to experience the full game on my own, at least for my first time through.

And ahh you don’t know how relieving it is to hear that about gem store items! It’s very discouraging to feel like I missed out on so much being away for 4 years. I’ll keep my eyes peeled then!

Thanks for the responses!

Hello all!

So, I’ve been away from the game for 4 years. I genuinely enjoyed it when it first came out, played for a while, got to level 45…but my priorities drifted to other games and eventually I more or less forgot about GW2.

Seeing things for the upcoming expansion piqued my interest again, so I thought I’d return and give it another go. I’m starting a brand new character to start fresh with, but I had a few questions if someone wouldn’t mind helping me out.

Currently I don’t have the expansion, just the base game. Is there any reason I need to buy the expansion now, or can I level without it and make that decision once I’m 80? Mostly I’m just curious if there’s anything the expansion unlocks for me that would benefit a leveling player. If not, I’m happy to hold off until I have a better idea of how much I’m enjoying the game.

Gliders. I don’t remember these being a thing when I started. Are they only for max level characters?

Gem store outfits/weapons/etc. It pained me to go through my wardrobe and see all of these amazing locked outfits that I fell in love with only to find out they’ve apparently been retired for some time. Does anyone know if they ever bring these items back, or is it more of a limited time only thing and once they’re gone I’m SOL? If it’s the latter it’s a bit of a bummer because they’ll sit there forever taunting me.

I feel like I had more questions but they’ve slipped my mind for now. If there’s any other little helpful tips feel free to let me know, I’m sure I’ll appreciate any advice!

And if it makes a difference, I’m going Ranger for my character as they’ve always been my favourite class.

Thanks for your time!

Yes! Lets add something as minor as this instead of fixing all the issues that actually matter!

I don’t think anyone’s saying it should take priority (at least I’m certainly not). As an after thought for when they have time to do aesthetic changes like that though, I support the idea and appearance.

So, Ranger complaint trends...

I wouldn’t say you’re the only one, I’m with you on the last three.

1. I do think quivers would be a nice addition, but not in a demanding sort of way. I simply like the aesthetic look of them and I thought it was a great idea.

2. I probably can’t speak fully as I haven’t gone past level 40 yet, but so far I haven’t had any issue with the medium armor looks. The only coat I wasn’t fond of was the one that looked like a quilt wrapped around my torso, haha, but I love the long trench coats and face masks.

3. While similar classes in other games can use both bows and rifles, I don’t have any problem with the ranger class in this game being restricted to bows. It suits them thematically, and I think engineers fit rifles more. If you really love guns, maybe try an engineer?

4. Pets are pretty much the main reason I love this class, so for me personally I would never want to play without them. There are other ranged profession options in this game that I don’t feel there’s the need to make a specialty petless ranger spec.

Ranger pet runs ahead almost every time...

It would be helpful if pets actually stayed stored, as well. Pet AI definitely needs more work.

Agh, this too. I can’t remember which story line I was working on, but there was one where my character was given a stealth, only…my pet did not receive it. So I was walking past mobs invisibly until my pet comes lumbering along completely visible and aggros them. I stowed my pet, but if I accidentally hit something or hurt myself it would pop back out.

I wholeheartedly support the idea of having a visible quiver, I think it would be a great flavour addition to the class.

I’ve definitely found this to be a problem. Pets seem to dislike standing too close to us, and there have been a few occassions where I cautiously walk up to an enemy camp to scout things out only to have my pet go barging past and stop right in the middle, aggroing every mob.

As a semi-related side note, I wish pets had a ‘Stay’ option to make them stand somewhere and not move. Not only would this be useful in gameplay, but also for fun reasons like taking screenshots beside your pet or roleplaying and not having your pet hanging out 20 feet away or moving around a lot.
