They should instead have an open or any related discussion with the community before doing any major changes like this. Involving community in building a game always the best thing to do, since “by community for the community” thing always end up a win-win situation for both side.

Pretty much yea. Arena Net went all out stupidity on this one. CM was the best income of currency for those who are not willing to abuse Trading Post. For example the lvl80 armor from your races capital costs somewhat 100golds and Arena Net expects every player to get such money. Players will lose interest before the get even the first piece.
