It would seem that a majority of matches have one server far and away the leader by Sunday night (no, not all matches – not QQ-ing, just observing). Once that happens it seems that it is very challenging for either of the two servers on the short end to make up much ground. The following is my idea to address this:
- Based on sound calculations find the tipping point in matches and at that point there would be a forced truce between the lower 2 servers, changing players and fortifications friendly. Thus the lower 2 servers are now allied against the leader shifting the balance of power.
- I envision a system with a warning similar to the new build restart “A treaty has been signed with ServerX, hostilities will cease in 3 minutes”
- While allied the 2 servers would share map chat for coordination (team chat still your own)
- The treaty would remain in effect until if and when the alliance puts a big enough dent in the lead to restore competitiveness, then another warning “The treaty has been broken! Hostilities will commence in 3 minutes”
- Any emplacements gained while allied are divided evenly based on proximity to the server spawn points on each map, with new hostikitten oted from towers etc. that will no longer be friendly.
- The cut points would need to be carefully set so that there is not a state of constant flipping but only 1-2 per match.
It’s not perfect and there would be lots of details to work out, i.e. can you take supply from ally, what if you build siege in allied tower, how to minimize griefing, etc… But I think the dynamic would be tremendous and breathe life into dead matches.
