Not Looking Forward to HoT

you don’t have to wait til HoT for changes to take effect. The next update will bring them to gw2 core. That’s actually something i really like about gw/gw2. Those games are constantly evolving.

Oversimplification may not always be a part of the evolution process. It may be part of the degradation. It can lead to the ruin possibilities of research and experimentation in the character development sphere. The traits system was quite simple(for me at least). It can be improved not simplified. Sorry for my bad english.

I am not exactly enjoying how much people are whining about the new specialization reveals or anything else that has to do with HOT in that matter. We should be happy we are getting info on it anet doesn’t even have to show us specialization they could just make us wait till expac is out and we have to figure it out ourselves. I trust anet will put out some great stuff I have no doubt about it, but with players complaining as much as they do it would make me not want to show you guy anything if I had that power.

Over the last 10 years of existence MMO idustry ppl could learn one simple rule – do NOT trust developers or distributors.

Is HoT Destroying Build Diversity?

In terms of build diversity, I don’t care for having some insane number of available build options but only using maybe a handful of genuinely useful builds. I would rather have a smaller number of manageable and more useful builds. If HoT were to reduce the amount of possible builds down by a factor of 10 or so, then I would expect the each of the remaining build possibilities to be incredibly useful. In short, I want quality, not quantity.

not clear here, are you saying you would rather have 10 good builds out of 20 than 20 good builds out of 100?

Well I did say “each of the remaining build possibilities” so that would mean (hypothetically) instead of having 5 good builds out of 1000 with the current system, I would expect the new system to provide perhaps 20-30 builds max, but every single one of the 20-30 builds would be useful or just as good as the 5 or so builds from the old system (the old system being the current system).

Maybe just need to mix all traits and leave by 1 grandtrait in every core specialization?! Its so cooool. This will make the “builds” Ultrauseful. 20-30 builds?!…..Really?! And now imagine – developers strain their brain and start working on the current system and would make at least 50% from 1000 pos.builds useful. That would be the RESULT?!!

In my opinion, the goal of any character development system is to give the opportunity to play a role(or few) and the opportunity to create a unique character. The core spec. sys. increases the chances to create a copy of another player. Of course build/trait balance a very important aspect of the game. It should be cause for changing the existing traits/skills and their improvement, and not a cause to reduce the complexity of the system to the level of action games.

It is not a question of diversity, but rather a problem of complexity of character development. Now core specializations looks like a talents from MOBA games. Unfortunately, the tendency to oversimplify the system of character development has become usual for modern MMOrpgs.
P.s. sorry for my english

Don’t like one thing -only one elite specialization per class at HoT launch/ and
I don’t like “holy archer” type specs for my guard (give me “Monk/friar” pls)

staff, mace/focus? that’s kinda monkish, then put on that outfit that looks like a robe and you’re done

Plays and looks like are different things. Gw1 monks were like friar(mellee weapon-staff) from Daoc(but greater inclination to support). For me fantasy monks differs from clerics/pally : matrial arts/HtH&staff&blunt-close combat/high mobility/atk.speed/body&mind control/avoidance /parry-No shields.
