Hello! This thread is about a small tweak I’d like to see as a Mesmer with World Completion,
As we all know, when you get a character to 100% world exploration, you get that nice little star. I have no problem with that in dungeons, walking around or anything but, while I’ve been doing SPvP and WvW, I’ve noticed that my clones don’t have the star, which isn’t too surprising.
At first that didn’t bug me, anyone who’s gone against Mesmers enough usually has their tell tale ways of finding the real Mesmer instead of the clones. However, the glaring star makes it obvious for those few who are still figuring out mesmers, which is kind of a down side as is, and if I try to act like a clone just for a moment to see if I can split some PvP pursuers that’s kind of obvious if they’re looking for the star.
The other time I find it almost crippling, is when I’m downed, usually even a decent PvPer has to stall for a moment to see which is the real mesmer, allowing me and my clone to stack more confusion and get towards summoning the rogue and perhaps even saving myself. Now when I’m downed, finding the real mesmer is as easy as anything.
I know I should have seen this problem coming, and if I did think about it more, I might save map completion for another proffesion, but I don’t see if being ‘fair’, for lack of a better word, that an achievement effectively makes my mesmer not as viable as other mesmers.
I know some fixes seem small but the lines upon lines of code is more difficult than it seems, however, here’s what I’ve got:
1. Allow all players to enable/disable the map completion star, I’d like to show the star, but I’ve got the title if I really want to show map completion. I know other proffesions still have a minor down side from the star, seeing as if they’kittengeted, they can be seen more obviously through walls due to the large gold star, so Arrow carts, siege weapons and AoE’s are easier to land.
2. Make Mesmer clones more ‘accurate’ to the real mesmer. Both the up and down level’ed arrows that appear on all players when they’re effected by up/down leveling doesn’t show on the mesmer clones. Again, down level arrows don’t really matter out in the PvE world, but in WvW, the up level’ed arrow is another tell tale way to pick a real mesmer, along with the map completion star.
3. Make it so the enemies in PvP can’t see the map completion star of their opponents. This fixes the map completion star, and could be moved to the up/down level sign for mesmers. The only problem with this is, I believe Anet wanted to show people who were up/down level’ed, so this solution fixes the world completion star, but potentially not the up/down level arrows.
Thanks for your time, if all else fails, I can hope when new content is released, I lose the star on my mesmer, and maybe I can just avoid a few POI’s, though, I’d enjoy it more if I could keep my mesmer even, no matter what I decide to do in PvE.
