My thoughts on this, to sum it up nicely absolute horse kitten, they weren’t AFK leveling, and even if that’s what they were doing ANet should have ammended that long ago or not even put in their game. For them to do this says alot about the game in general, you can have the greatest game ever and the worst support, and guess what no matter how awesome your game is, it’s gonna suck from a customers point of view. I’ll probably be infracted for saying this again, but I would reccomend a charge back on everything, your account is already perma banned, what’s the worst they can do? Ban you again? They took from you now you take from them. The end. I also truly enjoy that a bot contacted you with an automated message. Just speaks volumes about this kind of stuff and their utterly terrible CS department. A group of girl scouts with Hello Kitty keyboards could do better.

Frustrations over lack of endgame

Seems like the ANet white knights are all over this forum thread. I would like to add my personal opinion. I agree somewhat with what the OP said, mostly pertaining to the hype train that followed this game. I was hooked instantly, and after 320 hrs played (yes, I know), I have come to a conclusion about a few things that get under my skin.

I understand full and well that this game is not a Skinners Box, I understand it’s not a gear treadmill, in reality its more like a pretty princess simulator, and that in turn will not appeal to everyone. The only gripe that I have about this system is that if the game is only based off of looks (and subtle stat upgrades) I truly believe there should be a bit more variation to the gear sets. Now I most likely will be flamed for this but I don’t think it is unreasonable, yes, I know in games like WoW there are just different colored sets, but that game is a gear treadmill, your main priority is the stats on the gear not how they look. With so much detail and effort pumped into the zones, I found the dungeon sets lacking and the amount of armor skins in general lacking for a game set up solely on an aesthetic basis.

My second complaint is that lately ANet seems to be contradicting themselves in alot of their changes to the game, I understand about how the farming thing effects people and it’s used to prevent botting. But newsflash, botters just like criminals will find a way around it, and in turn you are only hurting the player that truly enjoy’s farming, dungeon crawling, or any of the other content you have. The whole play like you want mantra that were toting around is almost nonexistent now, it’s more of like play like this or hit the road ( and no I don’t want to be able to fly and shoot lightning bolts from my butt one-shotting people). The variations of the way you can play the game at max level are growing ever restricting.

My third complaint, if you could call it that, is basically two fold. The first has to with PvE and PvP changes, I honestly believe they should have some sort of PTR to test these changes on before implementing them and changing them. Right now it’s kind of like, Suprise!, which leads people to think it’s a bug/exploit and then forum rage ensues. This also pertains to the amount of communication with the players, I understand your insanely busy, I get that, but just simple things as pre-releasing patch notes or even saying things such as non specific dungeons changes would mean the world to me and probably a large portion of the community. The second portion of this has to do with the fact that looking back in retrospect I truly wish there was more testing at higher level events and zones. Alot of these events will work once and then never work again until a server reset, which leads to insane server hopping which isn’t fun for anyone(maybe for people that like clicking buttons).

The last thing that I would just like to say to the community as a whole. Please for the love of the Flying Spaghetti Monster get off your high horses. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, just as I’m sure you have yours. There’s no need for the White Knights or the flamebots to point out stupid things like you’re a dog and rub your nose in it. One of the most hated comments I see is, “Pshhh… you played too much. No wonder your bored, get a life bro. etc. etc.”. They play how they want to play, just how you are playing how you want to. It’s a personal choice which is exactly that, personal. It also doesn’t do anyone any good saying the game sucks, for the 7000 reasons they listed. I truly enjoy the game even though atm I don’t totally agree the direction it’s taking right now but only time will tell.
P.S. Sorry for the long post -.-

There are no “anti-farm” systems. Also, “grinding” dungeons for exotic sets isn’t necessary, as you can get exotic sets in other ways that are of equal strength.

I beg to differ my good friend. They are very very real.

In my experience with other MMOs and their notorious forums, its’ oftentimes the playerbase (but moreso, a handful of regular forum-goers) that ends up becoming belligerent or outright rude to any changes or have this incredible sense of “I speak for everyone, and if the devs don’t listen to me, the game is doomed!” that can cause developers themselves to not want to say anything as it will either become misconstrued or twisted around. I have not seen this not happen, no matter the game.

In a case such as this, I didn’t see the original thread regarding the fixes to the dungeons, but it almost seemed like it was another case of players not being happy that the tricks (read: exploits) were removed, and with only one person’s word against another, saying that it was always legit so why change it… if the runs that were done legit, then where is the issue? If it is a case of the rewards being too low, mention that. If the difficulty was swung too far one way or the other, say so. But don’t focus in on the fixes that were made that were used to bypass content and call it the worst change in the world.

The community is new yet, but with every new game that I have followed for the last 5 years or so, the cesspool of negativity and arguementativeness on the forums has become worse as it goes.. and I haven’t the slightest idea who to blame, or in this case, feel sorry for.

TL;DR: Give the devs some time to find their legs, and stop trying to focus on the exploit corrections as the only thing wrong with the change. Exploits have never been openly discussed, and trying to make any new game buck the trend will lead to disappointment. Going back to lurking, as I know this will simply get tossed aside, as I disagreed with someone.

This wasn’t the case at all. In the PTSNBN all we were speculating about was why the changes to the trash packs and such not posted? No one was ever complaining that they fixed the exploits. The reply just came out of the blue(and was quite rude) and as a shocker to us forum posters and then the thread was locked and shut down. No one ever stated they were the worst changes in the world, in fact in his post Andry says that whatever changes they want to make to it: Fine, he was just asking that they actually communicate those changes pertinent to the dungeon. Again not asking to diverge any secret exploits of Narnia here.

The community team is important to give us of idea of what you are doing this is very helpful and stress relieving for the players.

The patch notes need to be fuller as well this is also a part of communication with the community.

We fixed certain skill challenges and DE. Tell us which ones exactly. I’m a developer for business applications and my costumers expect a patch note with everything I changed. A lot of us expect this as well for a game this big. I understand this cost a lot of time, but this will be appreciated by the most of the community. Also just say when you nerfed something if we know it we understand it.
Of course not everything should be shown in the change log I understand this.

Also do not make a reaction what you did today this is bad publicity and you found out that it backfired.

Exactly!!!!

Sukeena, in the thread that shall not be named, the only thing was that we were asking for something, instead of the nothing that was posted there. As Avery stated they could have easily said something along those lines, I don’t thing you are hearing us in the right context. Just to re-iterate we are in no way asking how to exploit or for them to confirm exploits, we just wanted to acknowledge a change to dungeons i.e. adding mobs etc. not just. We changed rewards and gold to prevent speed farming. We were also curious because at the launch of the patch the Wiki page had a few fixes and then were edited out, which acknowledged adding in the new mob packs.

Well I appreciate that, but you have essentially called me an exploiter….-snip-.

He is not calling you, Andry, an exploiter. He is referrering to the other thread that got locked that they do not and will not discuss about exploits in the patch notes, because that can entice other players to use it as well.

And talking about covering his kitten…please, he is open about this issue and he even gave his excuse.

Well back on topic:
I hope to try out the dungeon soon, but since i’m 40 I’m afraid I have to wait a bit.

Editing his own post to make his words sound less spiteful isn’t trying to cover things up? Keep in mind that was 40 minutes after his post and 20 minutes after this post had been taken down. Just stating facts here. And btw the whole post wasn’t about, “Hey ANet tell me how to exploit.” It was because none of the changes were listed and as a few other threads have stated there were “stealth” hotfixes.

Well I appreciate that, but you have essentially called me an exploiter and I have never exploited a thing in my life. The accusation, the insinuation itself is rude. I’d love to have a discussion about dungeon times and content but that’s not the topic of the thread I made. I want to talk about how you are presenting yourself to the community, how you are communicating with us. And your attempts to be at first brash, then strict, then cover your butt… has presented you with a bit of problem with your players that you ought to address.

While I understand how you feel and where you are coming from, I do not agree on the point of them covering their butt. Openly admitting to reverse an infraction they handed out, is not what I would call covering their butt.

The point was never about the infraction, the topic at debate was how they were treating the community wherein the OP quoted what the Admin said. Then if you go back and check the old thread, they amended their post to sound less brash. That’s what this thread is about.

The problem is, even though you think you are, you aren’t providing the community with any hard data. All you are saying is my guy dies is 2 seconds to a Thief and cries OP on the matter at hand. You have a combat log for a reason, if you can repeat the experiment post your findings here. All you seem to be asking for right now is a knee jerk nerf, and as stated Anet already said they won’t do that. So my suggestion is since it was your friend and you.
Post:
1.) The guardians gear, spec and level
2.) The Thief’s gear, spec and level
3.) Your combat log on the damage done and the skills used.
4.) His combat log on the damage done and skills used.

Without this, anyone can say anything, like if I were to say oh man Mesmer killed me in .001 seconds, super OP, used all kinds of skills against him, still killed me, bad for game, need nerf!!!!

See no one would listen seriously to that.

Or it could be a latency problem? I play a warrior in WvWvW, and I can nuke things much faster than my thief ever could. Haste set-up and all. Also I frequently play my Ele which has like 16k HP and I’ve never had a problem with Thieves. Can you provide some more info, you say you are full tanky specced but is there a level difference between the Thief and yourself. That does play a huge factor, since the power ratio would be quite higher.

There was no changes to Thief.
In regards to your statement.
1.) Thief was interrupted? On his Hide in the Shadows?
2.) Broke immobilize twice, therefore hes may be using poisons, stun twice, therefore hes sword pistol.
3.) “If you can see him”? Albeit that thief can go Stealth, your previous statement tells me he is using Devourer Venom or Infil Strike which uses one of his utility slots. Also there is a 3 second CD on going back into stealth. Assuming he had blinding powder and Shadow Refuge he only has three abilities that stealth him. You supposedly interrupted one, since interrupting his Hide would place it on a short cooldown.
4.) When a thief attacks out of stealth he is no longer stealthed. And the same 3 sec CD is applied.

What it sounds like to me is that the Thief is using a haste S/P build and just burned you down. This however is easily countered by
A.) Dodging
B.) Stun breaker
C.) CC’ing him. Guardians have good CC.

^ That is wrong, there are other popular dungeons being run such as AC, CM, TA, and to a certain extent HotW.

The playerbase running all the other ones is minimal compared to the ones running CoF and Arah. An easy test of this is just run outside of each of the instances. CoF and Arah are packed constantly, AC has a few due to the fact that it is the lowest level dungeon followed by CM. Now go to CoE, TA, and SE and there is almost no one outside those.

There is absolutely no reason they should explain how their anti-farm code works. Explaining how it works is the exact same thing as explaining how to work around it.

Which will eventually happen.
Sooner or later, someone is gonna get enough data from farming to provide information on, in particular, the amount of time needed before the code is reset. Or maybe the amount of items can be dropped before it caps.

I am quite sure most people know the limitations of farming. In my instance, I can farm for about 30mins on a specific mob with 150%+ MF before I notice a large drop off in drops and there have been posts from others that clarify my thoughts on the idea that mine is not a one off situation.

But the point is, why was this needed in the first place? To combat bots? Seems like a lazy implementation to me when you punish your normal legit players and the much lower population of people that bot.

I’m actually working on this atm. Not to further help bots, but I think it is something that the community will enjoy and save alot of people time and less frustration overall.

Where do you have any proof about your claims?

I’ve heard about the anti-farm code speculation before. Tried farming some Vials of Blood in the north and I encountered the exact opposite. I was farming there for about 5 hours in total and the longer I was there, the more Vial drops I got.

You must be a very lucky man my friend. For the vast majority of players the speculation of the anit-farm script isn’t really a speculation but more of a concrete fact. Here was the data I gathered tonight before the patch went off. It was mainly an experiment for a bunch of the posts in the crafting section.

A little bit of data:
Hours farming frost trolls in Frostgorge Sound in hopes of Powerful Blood and Potent Blood.
(All data is with 210% MF)
Hour 1: 23 Potent Bloods/7 Powerful/ 21 Large Bones/5 Ancient Bones/10 Blues/6 Greens/2 Rares
Hour 2: 11 Potent Bloods/3 Powerful/ 15 Large Bones/1 Ancient Bones/6 Blues/3 Greens/0 Rares
Hour 3: 8 Potent/1 Powerful/ 9 Large Bones/ 0 Ancient/ 4 Blues/1 Green/0 Rares
(This is where it gets dismal)
Hour 4: 1 Potent/0 Powerful/2 Large Bones/0 Ancient/1 Blue/0 Greens/0 Rares.

My thoughts are is they will put a limit to how much gold you can gain per hour off of these dungeons. Or maybe it’s per route, like for example in shard farming, you may only be able to make up to 1g off of route 3, until it stops dropping gold. However, it could more likely be a gold per hour or gold per 3 hrs on a dungeon to encourage people to switch it up and farm multiple dungeons, sine most are being neglected besides CoF and Arah.

hell I only payed 60 bucks for the game, and 20 bucks in gems, pretty good deal for 300+ hours of gameplay.

The problem, in my case and most of my friends, is not money. It’s time. We love gaming, but work many hours each day. So, if we invest time in a game, we want it to last. This isn’t lol or team fortress. It’s an MMO. Spending 1 month in an MMO, and then qutting is kind of.. a waste of time. Not totally of course. We are having fun anyway. But we like to invest time in a game that will last for a long time. It’s not about the 55€

Yeah but one of the really cool things that sold me on this game, is that you can pick it up and leave it as quick as you like. So you got to level and aren’t having a ball? Drop it.
Come back when there is more content maybe, you aren’tpaying a monthly fee, so my suggestions is to try to find things in the game that make it fun for you and your friends. I was running into the same dilemma, and then I found out how fun a 5 man roaming gank squad in WvWvW is. I truely mean it, some of the best gaming experiences I have ever had in a MMO. Nothing like going head on into the trail part of a zerg rush with the 5 of you. Truly epic.

Just thought I’d pipe in here. Like the above are saying this isn’t a trational MMO in the fact that there is an ever escalating gear grind, i.e. WoW. Basically find the way you want your guy to look and go out and do it. As far as content at level 80, there’s a bunch. For example I have 304 hours played on my Thief, I’m in full exo’s 100% world completion, all the jumping puzzles done (which you can do each day), all that time for just that, I still havent done all the paths in all the dungeons, all the slayer achieve’s or all the achieve’s in general. I have harly touched WvWvW and am only Rank 20 in sPvP. So yeah if your looking there’s a ton of things to do. Just because it’s not what you want to do at level 80, shouldn’t put a gray fog over the game. Do the dungeons give you the satisfaction as a Heroic raid kill? No, definitely not, but it doesnt mean they aren’t challenging. And maybe once I’ve done everything in the game that there is to do, and if I have a sour taste in my mouth, I’ll leave, hell I only payed 60 bucks for the game, and 20 bucks in gems, pretty good deal for 300+ hours of gameplay.

Tier level seperation

You are right for the MOST part. However, T5 drops all the way to 80 starting out at 60. T6 mats are a super rare chance off of anything that has a chance to drop a t5 mat. This is also effected by the level of the mob, so say for example( purely made up drop rates) a level 70 skelk has a 5% chance to drop a Potent blood (T5)and a .02% chance to drop a powerful(T6). A level 80 Skelk has a 10% chance to drop a Potent blood and a 1% chance to drop Powerful. That’s just based off my findings, and since we can’t actually mine the drop rates, it very well may vary on person to person and the amount of time they are in the “farming” zone, due to to anti0farm script.

How, and why, I think Magic Find works

in Crafting

Vytal.7942

I posted this to a couple other threads and figured I’d drop it in here as well. I see stated above about the multi-roll property, now how would that factor into the scenario with fine crafting materials, or are those taking the place of the supposed fine(blue) drop that you were to get. So essentially if it were multi-roll it would looks something like this.

copied from fr0st
Roll for item (hit) —> Roll for Exotic (miss)-→Roll for Exotic Material(miss) —> Roll for rare (miss)-→Roll for Rare Material(miss) —> Roll for green (miss) —> Roll for blue (miss)-→Roll for fine material(miss) —> give white

I’m thinking it could very likely be that scenario, because even while farming I hardly ever got two blue pieces of gear or two blue crafting materials off of the same mob (chests are unique I suppose). I would also like to see either the drop rates or the EXACT way MF effects your chances of getting items. I guess its not a huge deal since the anti-farm code is pretty brutal.

A little bit of data:
Hours farming frost trolls in Frostgorge Sound in hopes of Powerful Blood and Potent Blood.
(All data is with 210% MF)
Hour 1: 23 Potent Bloods/7 Powerful/ 21 Large Bones/5 Ancient Bones/10 Blues/6 Greens/2 Rares
Hour 2: 11 Potent Bloods/3 Powerful/ 15 Large Bones/1 Ancient Bones/6 Blues/3 Greens/0 Rares
Hour 3: 8 Potent/1 Powerful/ 9 Large Bones/ 0 Ancient/ 4 Blues/1 Green/0 Rares
(This is where it gets dismal)
Hour 4: 1 Potent/0 Powerful/2 Large Bones/0 Ancient/1 Blue/0 Greens/0 Rares.

R.I.P. Drop Rate

Vytal.7942

I would like to add something to this thread that I think may help some people in the short run. I have 5 professions to 400, most were however leveled before the changes to the cooking where the the new items were added to the loot tables. Early on in the game, I’d say around level 30, my guildies and I decided to make and stockpile two different sets of gear, one with the stats of your choosing and one with MF% (magic find).

Now from my understanding on how MF% works in this game, it not only amplifies your chance of any loot on the mob, lets say in theory thats around 15 percent. And with a full set of low level MF and a Tart(MF food) you can easily get to about 150% MF. So in this case your base chance is 15% and you now have 150% extra MF, essentially giving you 37% MF (assuming they are additive). Which I believe is quite a significant boost.

However the downside to this is the “unconfirmed” anti-farm scripting in this game. Which basically boils down to the fact that the longer you stay farming something the lower the drop rates on those mobs would be AND the lower the chances of getting worthwhile drops from those mobs.

A little bit of data:
Hours farming frost trolls in Frostgorge Sound in hopes of Powerful Blood and Potent Blood.
(All data is with 210% MF)
Hour 1: 23 Potent Bloods/7 Powerful/ 21 Large Bones/5 Ancient Bones/10 Blues/6 Greens/2 Rares
Hour 2: 11 Potent Bloods/3 Powerful/ 15 Large Bones/1 Ancient Bones/6 Blues/3 Greens/0 Rares
Hour 3: 8 Potent/1 Powerful/ 9 Large Bones/ 0 Ancient/ 4 Blues/1 Green/0 Rares
(This is where it gets dismal)
Hour 4: 1 Potent/0 Powerful/2 Large Bones/0 Ancient/1 Blue/0 Greens/0 Rares.

Sorry for the wall of text, just hoping that some of this information can be used to help people. Gather some of those “rare”(too rare i think) to level their professions.

That sucks and I’m sorry to hear that. All of these bags/satchels/boxes suck. I dropped 4g worth of mats to make the Satchel ( medium armor exotic). Made the chest popped it into the forge dropped the skill points and BAM. I get a recipe that costs 3 more insignias ( about 9g) to make in bulk than to craft the entire set individually. So i did the match and to craft the set indiv. it would cost approx. 16g (buying all the mats out of the TP) and to make the Satchel it would cost about 25-26g plus the 4g I dropped in the mystic forge mats. A whopping 30g to 16g. Makes total sense, just as labeling an exotic box with rares inside does.

I made one of these today, unfortunately without reading this forum post first. One of my guild mates and I were talking about making these, so I went out and got one and then I saw the mats and had a sinking feeling in my stomach. I agree with the previous posts, why in the heck would I go and drop 3 extra emblems ( approx. 2-2.5g to make) to make a bulk set when I can craft each individually for far less mats. Not to mention the 3g worth of mats I’m already down for dropping it on this recipe.

In my opinion, to make it fair make the bulk set cost 2 emblems cheaper than crafting each piece individually since we already dropped one piece of gear into crafting thekittenthing, and we get rewarded with this headache.
