New GPU to tide me over or a whole new rig?

Hi,

My pc is just over 4 years old. Since I bought it I have upgraded the GPU only. My setup is as follows:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 which has been overclocked to 3.30GHz.
4GB of DDR2
ATI 5770 1GB GPU.
Windows 7

I usually run my game on Medium settings with shadows and reflections set to low. My average FPS looks like this…

50-55FPS During normal questing and PVE
30-35FPS During busy dynamic events
25-30FPS During WvW skirmishes
5-10FPS During WvW zergs and sieges

Turning my graphics settings to low doesn’t seem to help my FPS by more than 3-4. However I really enjoy playing WvW so my question is do you think it is worth upgrading my GPU to an ATI 7850/7950 for example? Or do you think it’s more a CPU issue and i’ll be better off buying a whole new rig?

PS. I have heard that there is a lot of people with FPS issues even though they have pc’s there are MUCH better than mine. This doesn’t exactly encourage me to buy a whole new rig just for WvW!

I also have an Intel Core 2 quad Q6600 which has been overclocked to 3.30GHz. I have 4GB of DDR2 and I roll with an ATI 5770 GPU. My average FPS is extremely similar to what you guys get.

45-50 FPS in PVE during normal questing.
35 FPS During busy dynamic events
25-30 FPS During WvW skirmishes
5-10 FPS During WvW zergs and sieges

I know my system is old but I was really hoping to get more than 10 FPS in large WvW battles! Oh well, it looks like I’ll have to splash out on a new rig if I want to play WvW properly.

'Guild Parties'

I strongly support getting something like this introduced. I also have the same problem as the OP in that our guild is only made up of a small bunch of friends. As a result a lot of the time we’ll be running around WvW in a group of 7 or 8. As it stands we can’t all join the same party so we have to rely on using Ventrilo to co-ordinate.

This is fine for small raids on supply camps but if you join a zerg it’s so easy to loose your guild mates in the melee and then you have to resort to saying things like “I’m stood by the tree overlooking the lake, next to the grey column, being attacked by a polar bear” which is ridiculous frankly.

My Charr keeps screaming!

I also get this bug. It is both amusing and slightly annoying at the same time!

Levelling a Charr - Which zones did you go through?

I know that by the very nature of this game you are free to travel to any zone to level (obviously within your level range) or do some WvW for example, but I’m curious about the zones that people have decided to level up in as a Charr.

I’m currently level 40 and I’ve got there by first gaining 100% completion in the Plains of Ashford which is obviously the logical starting point for Charr. I then moved onto the Diessa Plateau and completed that too. I filled the XP gaps with a fair bit of WvW but after completing Diessa Plateau it wasn’t exactly obvious to me where the next levelling area was for Charr. In the end I went over to the Gendarren Fields but I don’t know if that is what the majority of Charr players did too? I guess Fields of Ruin is a logical next step too.

I know that a lot of people leave the starting areas straight away but I guess I’m still stuck in the old MMO mentality of having a set route for levelling!
