Yes I understand. I’ve been told that a few times now.
I just rerolled and have a level 18 guardian.
I have noticed absolutely no difference in gameplay after that patch.
I don’t down/die more frequently.
I don’t take any longer to kill mobs.
I still take on giant groups of mobs at a time just fine.
I don’t suffer in any way.
It may seem bad at first, but there really isn’t a drawback that I’ve found.
1 point now is the equivelant of 5 in the past.
Just enjoy the scenery, check out the maps for exploration XP, and have fun!
As for it being slower to level: Not true. I have noticed absolutely 0% change in the time it takes me to level. I’m still sitting at my average of 1.5 hours per level. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower. Depends on what I’m doing at the time.
Yes I know it’s not actually slower/harder/different it’s just less involved. Why am I gaining levels when nothing happens to my character? What are these 5 levels for? Why do I have to wait until 30 to start to build my character and get a feel for it? Why is that dam run buff so far off!? :p
Oh and I’m enjoying the game apart from that personal quest with the fight in the bar. That kitten (after a quick google it was Doc Howler) was tough! I’ve no problem with that it just seems to be leveling for no reward :/

Okay I’ll try this again.
I’ve played and leveled a couple of times since the patch. My character seems to be exactly as he was before (not playing my 35 as I wasn’t enjoying the class so much).
I don’t get to do anything except see another blue chevron added to the pile. If I level a few more times WOOT something happens and I get to chose a trait. Then I go back and level a few more times for another. I know it makes no practical difference to the gameplay but it’s just more boring!
So I know how it feels as I’ve played and leveled my character a few times. Before I was rewarded with something every level and now it’s gaining 5 levels for no reason.
Um okay. You’re having trouble with this. Let’s try again.
IT —>FEELS<-- SLOWER AND IS MORE BORING TO LEVEL!!!!
Do you get what I’m saying now? I know the end reward is in essence the same but it’s all spread out and I don’t get useful solo traits like run speed buff until ~lvl 50
Please tell me, as I seem to be talking nonsense, how is this a better experience for new players? Content and advancement is now a more distant and obscure goal.
Have fun leveling them then!
I will. I have a fun guild and friends who will help me. So I’m not going to rage at leveling alts
.
So happy for you but as I’ve not been playing a week yet I’m not in a guild yet and have only found a few people in the starter areas who even reply when you chat with them.
I have several invites from people who didn’t even bother to ask if I wanted to join their guild but TBH I don’t want a guild that just sends out blanket invites.
I’m seeing this from a point of view that I don’t think you can understand. I went from a smooth slope of leveling to a sharp cliff topped by jagged stepps.
I really am happy that you have everything set up for leveling your alts. But as a new player I don’t so I’ll pop on now and then but I’m not sure it’s going to be as engaging as it was before and not nearly as fun!
You’re missing my point. The game just got more boring. Before I got a reward for every level after 11 and it felt like my character was growing all the time.
Now I get the almost the same reward but it’s all bundled up every 5 levels after I get to 30. Oh and I’m slow as kitten again because that trait is not available until ~lvl 50.
In the old system after 11 every single time I leveled it gave me a small reward of a point to spend, an increase in stats and a sense of my character growing.
Now I need to level FIVE TIMES for basically the same thing. kitten just got boring and dull!
Why is this a good thing?
Have fun leveling them then!
They merged some minor traits into major traits, and changed some others. This way every time you click to put a point in a line, you get a trait unlocked instantly. I’d say thats better then simply clicking and seeing nothing more then a little stat boost.
I’m hardly confused by it at all.
Full set of 80’s I’m guessing.
Well as a new player I now have to level 5 times (after getting to 30) to see any results to my effort.
How does this make the game more fun or interesting? I seems slower and less involved to me but then I’m not sitting on top of a pile of 80’s pitting the plebs!
As I said elsewhere it FEELS slower. I level up and get no reward. No points to spend and useful things like movement increase are distant goals. I mean who actually needs to run from place to place faster? The players with every waypoint unlocked or the new players who have to hoof it.
I’m only level 35 so far and I feel nerfed!
I can’t understand why they nerfed new players. I mean they want new players right? New players = new sources of cash right?
I can only figure they are planning to make money from it some how!
I’m not quitting yet as I only just got the game but I’m not looking forward to the seemingly loooooonger grind to 80. I —>FELT<-- that I was progressing when playing 1-35 and my character had unlocked some useful things.
Now I feel like a level 10 again dreaming of the lofty heights of actually having more than one trait.
I just don’t get why they did it. I understood the old system and I’ve only had the game a week. This new system is a little more confusing and —>FEELS<-- like a nerf.
TBH I’m just going to not play for a while and see what happens. Maybe in a bit I’ll feel like grinding those levels but with such scant reward it’s just not as appealing. I know it’s a game and I should enjoy the playing of it but where’s the reward?
Every 5 levels?
Why?
Why not points every level and a trait every 5. That makes it —>FEEL<-- like I’m progressing. This makes it —>FEEL<-- slower.
Sorry for shouting feel but some people have problems reading what I’m typing and tell me I’m still getting the same as before.
Can we atleast get some way of moving faster again? It was the first trait I headed for but now i’m running in slow motion again until 50-something.
Jumping in wvwvw to get a level or 2 now and then when pve got tough was fun and I can’t imagine it hurt much. Now though…
Some form of reply from the devs would be nice. I was under the impression that they are unlike EA devs and can actually talk on the forums to their players.
Are we stuck with this “better”! System that 90% of people on this topic seem to hate or is there hope for us low levels?
Somehow they must be making more money this way. It’s the only explanation. It’s not made the game any better that for sure!
As a new player I have to say thanks for making leveling seem more tedious and slow.
I have a level 40 character. Just logged in and boom down to only 2 trait points.
each new trait point counts for 5 old trait points. so instead of 5 to get to next trait skill, it now only takes 1, and every 1 trait now gives as many stats kitten used to give.
And now you have to wait 5 levels to improve your character instead of getting a little better every level.
Enjoy the grind!
How is it “better” though?
Makes new players progress slower and the game less appealing. I looked forward to leveling and getting a bit better. now I need to level 5 times to do it?
I don’t understand why it’s a “better” system?
Oh good now we need to do some events to unlock traits. How is this better?
I’m really not understanding some of this. The trainer now has a pile of books for skills I’ve already unlocked (according to the books) so why are they there?
Will I need them or are they just for new characters? If they are for new characters only then I understand it’s a nice gold sink for the game but again nerfing the new players.
I’m failing to see the advantage of the new system. I’me sure it’s fine if you have a bunch of lvl 80’s but as a new players I think things just got harder.
Can someone fill me in please?
I only just got this game a few days ago and have managed to get to lvl 35.
My guy was going well and in most things I was having fun. But now he’s only got one trait point (not 25) and I feel like I took a giant step back.
I really liked the speed increase trait I had but I don’t think I can get it again until lvl 50? Did characters who are under 80 just get mega nerfed?
