Just an idea myself and a few others thought would be a social way to waste time in the game:
1: A casino/gambling area somewhere with:
2: Multiple card games,Slot machines, etc.
3: Ability for players to Rent poker tables for exclusively inviting friends/guild members to play.
4: Currency Exchange for changing gold/gems into chips and for cashing out of the casino after you are done playing.
Pros/Cons
Line 1: Pros- Great way for anyone, especially those who are bored at level 80 to spend time and socialize with people in a relaxed environment and win/lose currency.
Cons- Possibly very resource demanding in terms of game/server load and overall performance of the game.
Line 2: Pros- Having many choices to which game you wish to play so that all players will find a game they enjoy and/or are better at.
Cons- Game/Server resource demanding and the area/space needed for the chosen amount of games implemented.
Line 3: Pros- Being able to play with friends/guild members only would have a great impact on the fun factor of the game being played. Also for those who lose it wouldn’t be as angering when losing your coin to a friend/guild member.
Cons- Not enough game/server resources to render such a high amount of area/poker tables etc.
Line 4: Pros- You(ArenaNet) could tax and make money off of deposits/withdrawls upon the player entering/exiting the casino which would possibly cover funds needed for server/developer costs and repairs.
Cons- Possible exploitation of currency exhange by unknown means, one example could be players intentionally losing a game for the purpose of another players benefit (aka gold selling/external transactions). In which case you (ArenaNet) would be forced to keep record of all major transactions going in/out of the currency exhange. (More resource demands)
Of course, some of you after reading this will ask, why the need for currency exchange? The purpose of the idea was/is for ArenaNet to be able to take a percentage of currency flowing into and out of the casino. Which would translate into real money being earned from the players buying gems and using them in the casino.
My idea for the solution of not needing a huge casino area for all the games required would be having one game of each type for players to walk up to, interact with, and bring up a game browser like you see in multiplayer games ( where it shows lobby name, number of players, etc.) and for those who host guild/friend only games they would be locked and entered only through invitation from the host.
Please post your own ideas and/or criticize mine.
Oh and please before anyone posts with “They need to fix this and fix that before worrying about adding more stuff”. Well, of course priority is always fixing things before adding new things which in themselves may need fixing.
So go ahead, flame me if you think it’s all a stupid idea.
If you think it could be fun, please post and say what you like/don’t like.
THIS IS ALL AN IDEA AND I HAVE NO CLUE AS FAR AS LEGALITY.
28 and love the game.
I agree with everything posted so far as well. All things i have thought about myself. Especially the message of the day and having to retype everything.
The last MMO i played for a long period, if its considered an MMO was diablo 2. Tried diablo 3 and had high hopes for it, but didnt like it. Stopped it playing after a week (waste of money). So, this is basically my first MMO. Deffinitly my first real MMO of this type. I spent 5 minutes or less on a WoW trial and thats all it took to realize i didnt like it for many reasons.
So, now that I’ve played GW2 on average about 2 days a week, and I say this in all honesty, I LOVE IT. It has great graphics/gameplay/playerbase. Like many others I have seen some bad apples (bots). But it didnt bother me to much, I just ignored them and kept doing whatever mission/event i was on.
Also, I love the black lion market where I can buy gems and use them to buy stuff. In my first week I spent atleast $100.00usd on gems and got the cool profane armor and pirate suit and also aviator shades for my female elementalist. Also i got hooked on buying dye packs and mini packs. So arenanet has a serious money maker there, id guess that ive spent around $200-$250 on there. So just to say if there is atleast 100,000 other people who have done the same, then arenanet did a great job on implementing that
feature.
I like the different races and gender possibilities and so far everything ive seen and done on the game tells me ill get a lot of replayability after getting to level 80 with my elementalist.
