Wierd Lines on Floors - Graphics Bug

Hey all, I just wanted to let you know I’m experiencing this too. Yesterday when I was in the secret dungeon in the mountains near the vista at Lion’s Arch, I saw the lines (I thought they were tripwires at first) while following the ghost. This only appears in certain areas (mostly caves and dungeons like that). Even then, only in certain areas in those unless I didn’t notice them.

My GPU is a 7970 IceQ X2 with the 13.1 version of the driver, all settings in CCC at default & in-game settings at max except LOD and shadows at High instead of Ultra (V-Sync is also turned on but that’s irrelevant).

These lines remind me of lines used in modeling programs. XD

I have an IceQ X2 7970 and I’m not experiencing this problem yet (that I know of). My version is 13.1. Has ANet even looked into this problem for you guys? :/

If you manage to play, logging out to the character select screen seems to save your progress until the next DC. So if you log out repeatedly you can still play. :P

Clearly, this is a genius post.

So, I have been playing the game a bit and realized that in some areas that I run around in my FPS drops to around 31-42 (in order to get 2-5 more FPS I put shadows down to high). However, one time during the wasp queen killing event where at least 20 or so people were, I had a good 50-57 FPS even though there was a lot of things happening at once. And in caves, it’s usually a solid 57-61 FPS.

Strange, huh? Also, at Lion’s Arch I get roughly 34-45ish FPS. I haven’t bothered turning down reflections to “sky and terrain” as I can see a nice difference in quality on water.

I have yet to try out actual WvW though with hundreds of people. My estimate is that I’ll get anywhere from 30-45 FPS (I’ll have to check it out sometime).

Btw WTS ASUS GTX 580 DC II 1.5G x 2 (just sitting around doing nothing)

I’ll take them off your hands for free!
They would help me greatly in allowing me to build my friend a computer who currently uses a toaster.

Also, I have a new monitor coming in today (probably) so I’ll be playing GW2 even more now. ^w^

Aye true but when moving around doing ur own thing that slight difference in ‘blur’ is hardy noticable. And is worth it for those extra fps if u really want them. its personal preference bassicaly

True, but I kind of feel like I’m not getting “the full experience” when all the settings aren’t on high. I really should OC my CPU (and maybe GPU) but it looks like a complicated thing to do. I have a general idea of how to do it, but at the same time I don’t. And I have yet to truly measure my FPS in a big town and WvW field.

Anyway, anyone else want to share their FPS? Or should we let this thread become buried into the hundreds of other threads concerning other problems?

Also, I kind of understand why this thread was moved to Tech Support. However, the part of the forum I posted it in (GW2 Discussion) seems much more relevant to me. I guess it’s for those who need a better idea of why they get lower than expected FPS or something.

Either way the image quality from high to ultra is realyl not that noticable unless ur looking for it. I used ot run Ultra for a godo month or so till i realised i didnt really see the difference and the extra coupel FPS is always nice in a game thats this starved for FPS in the first place.

The last two images showed a good difference in shadow quality. If you look at the arch shadows in the background, the last image is more crisp than the one before.

WvW is usually a constant 60fps on ultra settings
But will dip in the heat of battle

’ Does CF or SLI Help in this game? ’

Im not entirely sure anymore as other people on this forum say they get 120 -180 fps on a singular card setup. Im just not feeling the extra oomf of SLI

Same shadow detail up close. .but the distance shadows transition from ‘basic’ to ‘complex’ is shorter.

A H60 isnt that good tbh so yea 4.2 is god aim. you can get air coolers that are better than the H60 ..its only really worth going water cooling if u get the H100 or better …or go fully custom.

Hm… well I have around 6 or so case fans too. The H60 gives me around 27C or so @ idle.

Anyone else care to share their FPS?

Try searching online for a solution, and try re-installing GW2. Also, have you tried running Prime95 for stability on small fft/blend to detect any errors with your CPU?

Also, is your CPU OC’d? In this online OC guide, 0×124 means:
“BSOD Codes for LGA 1155 Ivy Bridge
0×124 = increase/decrease vcore or QPI/VTT… have to test to see which one it is”

If ur going from ‘All’ to ‘terrain and Sky’ ..u will have less reflections .u wont have tree’s and houses ofr exmaple. What will reflect is exactly what it says ..the terrain..and the sky. The FPS WILL increase if ur changing from ‘All’ to ‘terrain and Sky’.

That is unless ur CPu bottlenecked.

in which case OC’ing is what u need ot od next to get better fps. I Sugest getting as close to 4.5ghz as possible as that is the sweet spot for GW2 to stay above 30 fps in massive WvW battles, and to keep 60 fps in LA with 2nd and 3rd gen i5’s/i7’s.

I might only OC to 4.2ghz as my CPU is only liquid cooled by a Corsair H60.

Also, how much of a difference for eyecandy/FPS does it make when you turn shadows down one notch?

@OP There be alot of performance claims on here but not much in terms of a way of sorting ur issue..with that said…

Turn Reflections to terrain And sky, When on ‘All’ it has a massive impact of FPS since its sort of bugged. It will render relfections that aren to even visible. .like underground and out of view. Shadows on Max can also cause a significant drop in certain situations so u could try lowering that.

Make sure ur GPU is running on PCIE x16, GW2 performance drops significantly if its on anything but x16. Try different driver versions, old ,new, and beta’s. try downlcoking ur GPU if its facotry OC’d.. GW2 can be picky. make sure any CPU OC is stable without errors using Prime95. Check out the following thread for more ways of troubleshooting.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FAQ-Frequently-Asked-Questions-Compilation/first#post1095383

All right, first off I would like to clarify that by you saying “Turn Reflections to terrain And sky, When on ‘All’ it has a massive impact of FPS since its sort of bugged. It will render reflections that aren’t to even visible. Like underground and out of view,” does that mean that by turning reflections to terrain and sky I will get more FPS AND more reflections (better quality)?

Also on the PCIx16 topic, my GPU should be in it since it’s a new computer built by a pro company. Also, when I got my computer I have stress tested it and bench-marked it so I know that my CPU is stable (I used Prime95 blend for around 12 hours. And yes, I know that I should probably do the only CPU one sometime, which will probably be before I OC it).

I noticed that I had Vsync on (which is why it never went past 61 FPS). When I turned it off, I got around 70ish but rotating around caused it to lag a bit. I went back to Vsync because of that, and it seemed to make the game smoother. Soon I’m going to get a Asus vh236h monitor with a 2ms response time and see if FPS improves.

Also, this is slightly irrelevant, but does anyone else’s GPU have coil whine? Mine does. >o>

I don’t think fps is tied to your monitor.

Btw does anyone think I’d get better fps in big zergs with a new graphics card or is that mostly tied to cpu? i5 2500k, 560ti 448 cores atm.

I don’t think FPS is tied in with the size of a monitor either, but it’s nice to have hope in that. XP

And on your FPS matter, I would say both. Your GPU is for your graphics processing power (it’s probably THE MOST important part of your computer besides the CPU), and a ton of that is consumed in playing GW2. In addition to this, your CPU also has to process the program and what happens in-game. So to answer your question, getting a better GPU is always a better thing. However, if you are feeling a bit adventurous then you can OC your GPU/CPU and see if that makes a difference.

Also, I believe your network connection would also tie in to gameplay during the big zergs as you have to connect to the server which is processing thousands of other connections in that area. However, connectivity would be a lot worse if GW2 was peer to peer.

Hm…so AMD has some design issues with GW2? I got the 7970 bc it has great OC potential but I’m wondering why I only get 40-60 FPS? I don’t think I’ve been to a town yet, lol.

And dang Rikimeru, I want your setup. Do you seriously get 180 FPS? O-o
That’s quite unbelievable, considering your GPU is a lower model. Then again, you have a greater CPU.

i get 80-100 outside of towns, not 180, the 180 fps was a post or two above mine(think that guy is running two vidcards).

Oops that explains it. Must’ve misread.
So yeah, he does say “2×680s” which is well, really good. I’m not surprised 2 680s will get you 180 FPS. >o>

But still, you getting to 80-100 FPS is somewhat surprising with the reason I stated. Perhaps I need to OC to get more? :/

i dont oc. i just dont install any junk on my computer, i use it for games only. seems to run better that way. and my gpu is midrange, not low end, it scored pretty high on performance reviews compared to other midrange cards.

Hm… I don’t really install “junk” on my computer either. Also just to clarify, I didn’t call your GPU “low-end”, just lower than the 7970 in ranking. I know that your GPU is a high end GPU just like the 7970.

Also, I just found out I get like 32-40ish FPS when roaming around that town (I guess you would call it a town?) when you go through that big portal in the Sylvari area and enter that big chamber with an elevator in it. >o>

I get around 40-60 FPS with an i5-3570K @ stock (clock speeds), a Radeon HD 7970 IceQ X2 @ stock, and 4×2 8GB of Ripjaws X memory @ stock with all my settings up and at a 1920×1080 resolution, max settings (except for the view distance rendering setting which is on high instead of ultra), and a 55" LCD screen (If that makes any difference. I read somewhere online that screen size doesn’t make a difference in FPS). Ultra drops me a good 10 or so FPS I believe). Is this good/normal?

Would anyone else with similar or exact specs care to share their FPS?

Others are welcome too.

Also, any tips for a new player? I just started.
