Double bow is great. I find combined with the 2 sec swiftness on pet swap and fury/swiftness on weapon swap, you can set up some pretty heavy burst chains on people.
Only thing i don’t like is not being able to target entangling roots when they hit me – for some reason only melee weapons work on them
Hi, Ranger here.
Just thought I’d chime in on 2 points.
1) Your first mistake seems to be your approach to this type of fight. If the ranger is dumping 10k damage from 1 set of hasted crossfire, you’re both using glass cannon builds, and you should be trying to either drop him during hard cc, or running away. Ranger have zero escapes from roots, and there is a little known bug (at least i hope it is a bug) where ranged attacks do not function while under a root effect.
2) People seem to be getting upset that most of a rangers damage comes from their primary attack ability. What you don’t seem to know (perhaps you have not played one) is that the 2-5 abilities for shortbow are entirely for control and setup to keep the only damage source going. Other classes have damage tied to all 5 (mixed with utility) or something in between. Just because you don’t take much damage from 2-5 abilities doesnt mean the ranger isn’t using them (FYI, if you miss 3 on shortbow against good ele as a ranger, you are dead 100%)
I’ll just finish with this: Ranged glass cannon ranger builds are only good at one thing – annihilating other ranged glass cannon builds. They do it better than any other class except thief, however they have next to no chance against anything else. If they had no advantage with a single target only ranged weapon nuke build against a squikittenarget, they wouldn’t be viable.
You should be swapping between them to use Pirahnas/SHARKTHING (forget its name) on cooldown.
1) Longbow gives 10 stacks of vulnerability – It’s not all about you.
2) Barrage is very effective area denial – It’s not all about the dps.
3) Knockback forces people to fight away from cliffs/water/etc – Indirect area denial
What someone said earlier about shortbow always doing more damage is correct. You will do more damage from 4 seconds of shortbow primary attack than 4 seconds of longbow Rapid Fire in a fairyland where damage is all that counts. Double stacking vulnerability (there is a 3 seconds overlap with the bow CDR trait) on someone under barrage and then switching to sword does even more.
As someone above also said (and was ignored), longbow is a tactical weapon. You should be using it to set up your other weapon set and help team mates, instead of standing on the highest hilltop you can find pretending you’re Legolas.
Buy yourself exotic weapons and a set of rare farm gear (the gear is a great investment). Weapon should depend on what you plan on doing (longbow for wvwvw, shortbow/sword for just about everything else).
1. Guardian
2. Mesmer
3.Thief
4.Engineer
5.Warrior
6.Ele (cookie cut)
7.Ranger/Necro/Ele
I’d rate engineers and thief about the same overall, but thief is best in role.
Necro/Ranger/Ele rated the same because all 3 of those classes are no where near the power level of the other 5 classes role for role. Ele effort vs outcome is way off (high skillcap, mediocre results). Necro and ranger both suffer from being outshined in any role by other classes.
Actually….I’m not sure why anyone would rate a ranger above warrior (which a few people have), when the class is inferior in every aspect.(not to say warriors are OP).
Seems like people try to ignore the elephant in the room.
What this guy said.
6-8k is reasonable for something like that requiring high adrenaline, but I’ve been hit for over 15k myself by it with medium armor more than once
Reasonable?
This thread is hilarious. As a Ranger the sorts of numbers you talk about are foreign to me.
This is like watching two billionaires debating who owns more helicopters.
