The few times I’ve run into Kaineng players in WvW during my playtime I’ve been on my own just wandering around for map completion. I actually enjoy running into one of you guys because so far each encounter has been…“honorable?”

You guys just tend to stand your ground and have a nice clean 1v1 fight with me. I appreciate it. :P

Northern Shiverpeaks WvW players are just awesome.

I don’t know what anyone would gain by doing what the OP said. If you can’t afford repair costs then why are you even in WvW?

Anyways, I was in NS wvw last night when they took the DR garrison and I liked the seige construction on both sides. I wish I was able to keep stocking supply, I hated seeing those trebs left un-built.

Most fun I had was when we were fighting a keep lord in his chambers and then DR massed a wave onto the bridge. Wish the pops were more balanced, the fights are over so quickly.

I was rolling a sylvari alt last night and I was getting peppercorns from young herbs. I’m not sure as to what frequency they drop, but I got more than one in the starting area.

Melee is viable but generally subpar for both PvE and PvP. Obviously, being in melee means taking more damage from enemies. In most games, this is incentivized by doing more damage than ranged options. In this game, Shortbow does more damage than any melee option available to Ranger.

So in short, yes, you can melee and you’ll do alright, and Greatsword is a lot of fun to use. It’s just not optimal.

I think you’re oversimplifying it just a little bit. Shortbow kills single targets faster, but when you’re fighting clusters (IE Dredge, Grawl, Svanir, etc) GS has the benefit of killing them all at once.

Power or Precision?

It really depends what you’re looking to accomplish. Personally I focus more on power than precision since I haven’t spec’d any of the traits which proc on criticals.

Ranger is only as squishy as you build it. For laughs and giggles I ran with all toughness/vit gear and accessories and my passive regen alone was outhealing the damage from +5 mobs. Granted, it took me for-freakin-ever to kill anything, but the point is you can be quite tanky if you are so inclined.

There’s my current build, and while I don’t proclaim it to be the best it makes soloing a cakewalk. You’re going to want to spam the fire trap whenever it’s available for access to the fire combo field and combo that with your leap for a near constant fire aura.

Subbing wolf for bear works brilliantly if you don’t care for bear tanking, as the wolf will leap and combo with the fire trap as well.

Longbow/Whiptail are mainly for running with parties or dynamic events. Shortbow/Whiptail is actually a much better build dps wise, but I miss the AOE on longbow too much if I use shortbow.

Would love it if the “1” of longbow got some love. Currently run a longbow/greatsword build, and longbow is amazing for story missions/dynamic events but the autofire is pretty much useless to me.

To add another suggestion/fix:
Allow piercing to negate the distance damage debuff.
