Unless you’re considerably more skilled than your opponent, you generally shouldn’t fight anyone playing a class with any kind of sustain by yourself. Our class is being balanced around our mobility. We’re much better at using that mobility to jet around the map and assist others in taking players down. If you’re having difficulty killing players while performing this role, perhaps you need to look at how your utilizing your CC and burst abilities. For example, sometimes you can be much more effective by staying out of a fight and waiting for certain thins to recharge, like your initiative, Basilisk Venom, Sigil of Rage, Flanking Strikes, Steal, etc. Maybe you’re not utilizing them together or haven’t waited until after your desired target has exhausted some of his defenses, like a dodge roll, protection, stability, etc. We’re also the class which benefits the most from coordination. I encourage you to attempt to find people to play with regularly so you may more easily tap into the potential of GW2’s most misunderstood class.
I love your elaborate description of what’s essentially a +1 lol
Yeah, I’ve only played Thief in PvP since launch, played two games with my Warrior today – who I just got to level 80 – and it was like day and night, holy hell. I did better spamming buttons (sort of) because I didn’t have my rotation dialed down, than I do regularly after playing Thief for years.
pretty much what I did fast leveling a necro with tomes and tried him out on WvW last night.
Take note I don’t even know the skills and pretty much just bought the standard zerker exotics and transferred my ascended zerk trinkets. My friend did the same thing as me except hes a condi necro and every time we met an enemy (usually 2 more than us so it’s 2v4+) we just click all the buttons and things simply died lmfao.
Of course as always it’s still apples and oranges. Each class has obvious strengths and weaknesses. However the glaring difference here is like choosing between a kitten good looking orange as opposed to a bruised up-on the verge of rotting- apple.
I’m assuming you all are just talking about S/D or D/P thiefs vs D/D ele. As a D/D thief playing exclusively WvW, chances are very slim for me. These eles can kite really well and our lack of gap closers mean i must use up my utilities. If the ele is not down by that point, it’s hopeless cuz i have to wait for my cds to come back while their sustain is far more potent.
Need tips on anything that i’m doing wrong.
To help others transition-
D/P can be played similarly on Mesmer with S/T
S/D is now actually called ranger and you have more dodge uptime and invuln periods
P/P is now better performed by warrior
S/P is more efficient on Revenant
Shortbow is unmatched…gg.
D/D isn’t even in there so im just SoL in that case hahaha
What was Anet thinking on these?
They weren’t.
/endthread
lol I’m still just praying for D/D #3 skill to actually have some viable use….beside the silly condi cheese people do.
C’mon Anet it’s not that hard. Fix the animation delay and make Death Blossom refund half the initiative on a successful evade. Remove the damage element so we can use it during stealth without breaking it and I’ll be happy
I’m glad other players are coming in here and clarifying this is, if it even is, an sPvP issue. As I see it, ALL burst skills need to be toned down. Thieves burst in WvW is still too high too. Instagibbing is still taking place in WvW. Thieves should never have been able to do that in the first place. No build should be able to output 20k in under 3 sec.
(happened a few moons ago in eternal battlegrounds…)
OH YEA my 2/6/6/0/0 D/D thief with full ascended gear SURE loves instagibbing people for 6-8k backstab damage almost regularly. Absofreakinlutely amazing damage. The burst is so high, an uplvl necro can somehow survive a proper backstab and spams /laugh, for attempting to burst him down first, and carries a runeset that auto casts fear on me for touching him. Then his buddy mesmer quickly turns me into a moa while a ranger, completely untouched in his tower, nearly breaks his keyboard mashing the #2 button and hits me for 13k easy “instagibbing” me at 1200 range.
I TOTALLY AGREE that a class that MUST position himself behind a target under melee range to do “acceptable” burst damage while avoiding/watching all the potential factors of aoe circles that are splashed all over the ground like a plague and single keystroke abilities that nullifies all your damage source for a few seconds must not be given the ability to instagib people even though the “rogue” class in every other game is supposed to be regarded as the class that excels at bursting single targets down.
/facepalm (sigh…all of this is sarcasm if you haven’t caught on by now)
by the way, those 20k+ burst thieves you speak of are generally one trick ponies who devote all of their utility skills into building 25 might stacks and traits to pure damage meaning they’re quite literary sitting ducks with their laughable hp if that single backstab fails and believe me, A LOT of stupid things can happen by chance that can make it fail. The everlasting teleport bug that doesn’t take you to the proper spot is just but one of many issues. And if you’re talking about 2 consecutive 10k backstabs= 20k in 3 secs… well that’s bordering on theoretical damage output and to simply put, is not easy and rather unlikely to happen.
see this is one of few problems i see within this forum.
Why does a troll post or complete QQ nonproductive threads like these even get entertained? It’s honestly not helping and it’s just feeding the flames even more when what needs to happen instead is to simply not give this any attention and let it die out.
This thread is coming from a self proclaimed ranger that can potentially deal 13k damage in one button from a safe range and can do this every 10 seconds and then you read the dumbfounded ideas he’s proposing of having a skill that deals “7-8k dmg” have a 20 sec cd…
C’mon guys you’re better than this
