Hello everyone!

A year ago on July the 21st, I created [SAND] after I had semi-organized several T5 maps in Dry Top over the course of a couple of weeks. I was anxious and uncertain about the decision. Never in my wildest dreams and highest hopes did I expect us to be here, a full year of SANDie adventures under our belt. We have grown into an active and close-knit community full of members of all walks of life, skill, and interests. This past year our tally has been 260 total T6’s and 222 in a row (and counting!) We were featured in an interview article by Guild Wars Hub for our 100th T6 in a row, and have been complimented by a few devs from ArenaNet. We have received an outpouring of support, puns, and fun from the Guild Wars 2 community.

Our goal from the beginning was simple: to provide fun, engaging, and productive T6 maps where friends could be made and the community could connect with each other in the most unlikely of places. We have succeeded so far, and as we officially bring our first year to a close and welcome a new one, we want to invite everyone to celebrate with us as thanks for the kindness and effort both the community and [SAND] members have put forth to make Thats No Tornado what it is today.

Before we get to the details of the festivities, I would like to take this time to thank a few personally:

  • To [DTOP], thank you for being the first guild to show it could be done! Thank you for your incredible support this past year. Without your powerful presence as the first and seasoned Dry Top guild, I don’t think I would have had the courage to create [SAND]. All of you continue to excel in Dry Top and in the new HoT maps, and we are truly lucky to have you stand with us in the sandy reaches of Dry Top.
  • To Lady Lindsey Grace, for being the one to suggest I create [SAND]. There is a big chance it would have never entered my mind without you!
  • To all of my officers, past and present, who have supported and helped me grow as a guild leader. Without your steadfast presence, I would never have the courage to continue being the leader of our family.

I am certain there are more I could be thanking and more I should be thanking! Truth be told, I cannot ever give enough gratitude to everyone who deserves it. The Guild Wars 2 community and ArenaNet have been most supportive through our first year, and it has truly brought light to my heart to see it. If you have ever just had a grand ole time with us, you have my sincerest love and gratitude. Cheesy^like^the^moon…<3

Celebration Schedule (Subject to change) (NA server):

  • Thursday, July 21st:
  • Dry Top T6 run: 6 pm PST – 9 pm PST. We will have trivia questions sprinkled throughout the rounds with prizes, as well as a timed, recorded Legendary Sand Giant kill at the end of our very first hour. We will also have some free-entry raffles spread throughout the night. Come out for Geodes, prizes, good conversation, and what I can only assume is the very first timed Legendary Sand Giant “record”!
  • Friday, July 22nd:
  • Prospect Valley Crash Site Jumping Puzzle: 6 pm PST – 7 pm PST We will have Mesmers portaling people to the top of the Jumping Puzzle for the achievement.
  • Dive Master Contest: 7 pm PST This will be a contest with prizes for the first three players who can successfully dive off from the highest point of the JP to the small lake below. Revives and portals back up to the JP provided for the unlucky who fail!
  • Saturday, July 23rd:
  • Dry Top T6 run: 11 am PST – 1 pm PST. During these two hours we will have a couple of free-entry raffles for prizes.
  • Dry Top-themed Outfit contest: 2 pm PST – 3 pm PST. We will have prizes for the top three outfits, as judged by a panel of three.
  • Sunday, July 24th:
  • Hide & Go Seek: 12 pm PST – 2 pm PST. Muirellthe Moon will hide in various locations across Tyria and in Dry Top with hints for those seeking her location. Prizes everywhere!
  • Group Picture: 2:30 pm PST Join [SAND] for a group picture in Dry Top! We ask that those participating be proactive and hide their minis and stow pets, and be open to listening/reading to instruction for the picture. Our TS can only hold 25 clients, so unfortunately we cannot give out instruction solely through voice!

We have stretched out the contests and prize-giving across the entire weekend in an effort to accommodate as many schedules and time zones as possible. Our schedule is subject to change should something arise or another contest comes to light. We enjoy going with the flow when necessary! Please feel free to ask questions here, at our Twitter @DryTopSAND, or in-game to Muirellthe Moon!

I’m really looking forward to celebrating our birthday with everyone. [SAND] has been an incredible experience, and this is only one of many ways I hope to continue saying thank you to everyone involved for making it what it is.

With love,

~ Moon & Thats No Tornado

TLDR; [SAND] is turning one year old, prizes, contests, puns, T6’s, Geodes, group picture!

After a friend bought me the Permanent Self-Style Hair Kit, I found myself unable to stop using it on a daily basis. While it perfectly makes sense for Humans, Norn, and Charr to change their hairstyle and color from time to time to fit weather and personal identity, it doesn’t quite make sense for a Sylvari to have completely different hair-do’s every other day.

As a roleplayer, this item was the one thing I always wanted consistently in GW2 above anything else. However, with my main roleplay character being a Sylvari, I’ve grown frustrated with the idea that I have to choose just one hairstyle for her to have for the length of her roleplay life. With that in mind… can Sylvari change their hairstyle and color at will? It seems plausible to me at least, considering they manipulate and “grow” the Grove to meet their needs. I would still really, really love an official response, though. It’s such a minor question I know, and I really doubt most people have this on their list of lore-related questions to be answered… but it would make me exceedingly happy to know for sure.

Heyas DusK! I messaged you in-game a little while ago, and then I took forever to get this done. Your music is wonderful, and I echo the sentiments of everyone else here who has thanked you for doing this for the community. Thank you for consideration of my character, and I very much hope that your break is due to something good in your life!

Name: Muirellthe Moon (Myur-ell-tuh Moon)

Race: Sylvari

Profession: Guardian (Dragonhunter)

Age (time since her awakening): About 15 months.

Personality: Affectionate to a fault, Muirellthe sees the world through the bright eyes of a most curious child. She loves all creatures and people without reserve. The world of Tyria is wondrous to her, and the unbridled enthusiasm bundled up inside her is often contagious. Muir lacks basic social and cultural knowledge; she is often confused and crestfallen if someone declines a hug.

Underneath her child-like demeanor is a powerful drive to protect those around her, and especially her closest friend, Fawne Lisbeth. Though her courage is prepared to shine when necessary, she prefers to take less lethal approaches to combat situations when possible. Muirellthe reveres the teachings of Ventari and the Mother Tree, often turning to her when she needs guidance. Though easily moved to tears over any number of seemingly inconsequential things, a kind word or a visit from a passing butterfly or little rabbit is enough to set anything right in her world. Despite her naïve tendencies, she’s often the first to find the right thing to say in a difficult situation.

Weapons: Muir is never without her staff and a greatsword strapped to her small frame. She almost exclusively favors her staff, using it as both a defensive and non-lethal weapon. When faced with dire situations, she proves just as adept with a greatsword, though it saddens her when she must use it.

Background: Muirellthe was born prematurely during an attack on the Dream by the Nightmare Court. As a result, she has no memory of her consciousness within the Dream before she was awakened. The combined memories, experiences, and knowledge of her people are lost to her, save for an innate mastery of combat techniques and weapons training, her name, and a face she was desperate to seek out from the moment she was brought into the world of Tyria.

The face was that of Fawne Lisbeth, though she had not known it at the time. All she knew was that she was born with a desperate tug towards this woman, a powerful drive to seek her out at all costs. Several days after her birth and adjustment to life in the Grove, this feeling was identified as a Wyld Hunt by the Pale Tree. From that moment on, Muirellthe believed it was her life-long responsibility to find and protect this woman wherever she traveled.

Despite the unusual circumstances of her birth, Muirellthe’s insatiable thirst to learn and find Fawne could not be quenched any longer. After only a few weeks of safety and family in the Grove she left it with the blessing and encouragement of the Mother Tree. She ventured forth from her home alone, meeting allies and enemies alike. The final destination of her journey was unknown to her; she was determined to traverse all corners of Tyria in order to find her Wyld Hunt. Deciding on Lion’s Arch as a good place to start, she set out on foot. As destiny would have it, Muirellthe crossed the rolling hills of the Gendarran Fields and came upon Lion’s Arch the day Scarlet razed it to the ground.

Personal quirks:

- She often uses phrases such as “Blessed Mother tree!” in her vernacular.

- Muirellthe’s personality is vastly different from the typical Sylvari born during the Cycle of Night. Upon hearing this and still being quite new to the world, Muir felt sadness for the moon, and guilt that she was not at all like her kin of the time she was born. A few days after her birth she officially gave herself “Moon” as a surname in order to give the moon some form of presence in who she was.

Notes:

- Muirellthe Moon is dead in the current timeline of the story – ...she was killed protecting Fawne from a fall during the first attack on Mordremoth (the end of Living Season 2.) As time has gone on, I’ve come to the decision that she will eventually come back as some form of entity or spirit. This profile, however, is the active profile of Muirellthe Moon before her death, and as such she has not technically been reborn, nor is she technically dead.

- Muirellthe had an everlasting effect on Fawne Lisbeth as a person. Though Fawne did not agree to a personal bodyguard for some time, they eventually became the closest of friends.

- She is never completely sure of her Wyld Hunt’s true purpose, and some of her last words are lamenting that she has to leave not knowing if she did what she was supposed to for Fawne. She initially believes it to be to protect Fawne from all harm, however due to the fact that she simply had a strong pull towards Fawne, it is later speculated that perhaps her Wyld Hunt was simply that she should become part of Fawne’s life, and perhaps even leave it (through death) eventually.

I posted these notes just in case they would be important in some way.

Had an absolute blast tonight participating in the Queen’s Jubilee with a few guildies, even as a Lv8 (but hey, I got to 12 with some help!)

It’s really different for me than any other MMO to see so many people willing to lend a hand, whether verbally or physically (I need revives quite often) in this game. Remnants of Hope is no exception to that =) Whether I was attacking one monster or ten, I always had a guildie nearby to aid (or die..) right along with me.

Sorry guys, I attract way too many mobs! Looking forward to more adventures!

Usually it rights itself pretty quickly, and it’s up now =) Sounds like you’ve been very busy in GW2! Our application and Trial process is a really important part of joining our guild for us, and so we’d love to see you on our website soon. Dahkeus is our GW2 Recruitment officer, any questions you may have can definitely be answered by him!
